Hutton Horsebox Hire are fully insured for Hire & Reward and Self-Drive, with breakdown cover. We meet all DEFRA requirements including UK Transporter Authorisation from the APHA, and Certificates of Competence.
We have many years experience travelling horses all over Europe. Our horsebox was specially selected for its safety and strength - (not for its payload), it is well balanced, easy to drive, meticulously maintained and disinfected after every use.

***The dangers of travelling your horse with an unregistered horse transporter***
At the weekend we received a phone call from a very distressed horse owner. They had booked horse transport and on the journey the horsebox was stopped and seized by the police.
It was reputed that the horsebox had no MOT, tax, inadequate insurance and the transporter was not licensed for horse transport.
This meant that the horse and owner were stranded part way through their journey until they could find alternative transport. The horse was becoming increasingly agitated and distressed at the roadside.
When booking horse transport its a good idea to research the company and complete the following checks:
🐴 Is the company/individual registered with DEFRA
🐴 At minimum does the company/individual hold hire and reward insurance
🐴 Is the horsebox / trailer in good order? In particular the floor and the ramp?
🐴 Is the horsebox clean and disinfected after every use? Diseases like Strangles are very infectious, expensive and time consuming to manage
Registered horse transporters may be more expensive than an individual 'moonlighting' as a horse transporter, but your horse's safety and your peace of mind should be worth the extra cost.
