Phew! It's a hot one today! :-)

Today one of our vets, Alexa, and one of our nurses, Sophie, spent the afternoon at Boroughbridge Primary School as part of giving back to our local community. They spoke to the pupils about the veterinary world and how to take care of animals. The pupils even had to dress up their teachers as surgeons! Thank you for having us! 🌟🌟

From today it is a legal requirement to microchip your cat.

The new legislation applies to all cats aged 20 weeks and older, including indoor cats.

The RSPCA said that one in 10 cats going into their centres were still not microchipped, despite the incoming law change.

We are currently running a discounted Cat microchip offer, for our registered clients, at £20.

This month is Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month 2024, which is also the 20th anniversary of this awareness campaign, spearheaded by the British Veterinary Nursing Association.

Meet Rhian, one of our Veterinary Care Assistants. Rhian joined the Rae Bean team in November 2023.

"I studied an introduction to animal nursing and welfare course at Askham Bryan college in 2022-2023 and I am hoping to train to be a registered veterinary nurse in the near future.

I am really enjoying recovering patients from their anaesthetics and watching operations take place to gain more knowledge and experience. In my spare time I enjoy walking my dog Barney seeing family and friends and also helping out on our family farm." 🐾❤

Sherlock popped in today after his owner noticed some overgrown nails. After a lot of bargaining with Sherlock to stay still and some awkward concentration faces, he left the practice with some fresh nails 💅🏻 What a cutie 🥰

Sally is one of our Veterinary Care Assistants - she is a long standing member of our Rae Bean team (13 years and counting..) and previously featured in the Yorkshire Vet TV show, when it was filmed in and around the practice.

Sally's days include assisting our vets in our operating theatre or consult rooms, monitoring recovery of patients, running test samples, updating records, stock control, liaising with peripatetic providers and much more....

This month is Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month 2024, which is also the 20th anniversary of this awareness campaign, spearheaded by the British Veterinary Nursing Association.

Here is Meg, one of our registered veterinary nurses. Meg has been part of our team since last summer. She loves to see patients and clients, both old and new. She helps run our weight clinics, wellness screening and health checks - as well as our nurse clinics - these include nail clips, a**l gland expression and other regular appointments.

☀️ Heat Stroke ☀️

Finally we are seeing some warmer days! But the increased temperature can be a hazard for our pets, especially our pooch pals who get involved in the more social summer events.

As much as we’d love to spend these summer days with our pets, they do not tolerate heat as well as us and higher temperatures can be fatal within 15 mins.

Some easy tips during warmer days are keeping animals in cool, shaded areas with access to fresh, cool water. Never leave them in cars or warmer rooms. Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening and remember - if the ground is too hot for your hands then it’s too hot for their paws.

VetsNow have some great information on heat stroke, what to expect and how to deal with this. If you suspect heat stroke in any of your pets, call your vets or your out of hours emergency vets straight away.

Cat owners - Did you know that Cat microchipping becomes a legal requirement on 10th June 2024?

The new rules mean cats must be implanted with a microchip before they reach the age of 20 weeks and their contact details stored and kept up to date in a pet microchipping database. All owners must have their cat microchipped by 10 June 2024.
