Like all Cats Protection Centres we work tirelessly to improve the lives of unwanted, abandoned or stray cats & kittens by finding them loving new homes. Until new homes are found cats and kittens are cared for at our Adoption Centre. We operate under strict guidelines to ensure the health and wellbeing of all cats and kittens in our care. In York and the surrounding area we re-home unwanted, aban

doned or stray cats. We can usually guarantee we will be full to bursting point, especially when kitten season gets into full swing. We actively promote neutering of all cats and offer advice to cat owners on all aspects of cat welfare. We aim to educate cat owners about the many benefits of neutering and dispel the popular myths which exist. We can assist people on a low income by providing a neutering voucher to reduce the cost of neutering their cat. We endeavour to manage the population of feral cats in our area. We have cat traps which we make available to the public (for a small deposit) for the purposes of trapping, neutering & returning to site (T-N-R). By doing this we hope to control the local feral cat population and ensure they are healthy. We have an extensive range of Cats Protection Cat Care leaflets and can also offer advice to cat owners. Our advice is not intended to be a substitute for professional veterinary opinions and you should always have your vet's contact details available.

Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a baker? We're calling on all baking enthusiasts, novices and pros alike to help us by donating some of your wonderful baked treats for our Open Day here at the York Adoption Centre, which we will be hosting on Sunday 11th August. It's a great excuse to get creative and a tasty way of raising vital funds for the cats! From a cupcake to a traybake and everything in between, we would be thrilled and so grateful if you could help!
Please contact the centre if you would like some more information on how to get involved!😊

The gorgeous "Star Bobs" is hoping that some of our lovely supporters may have some soft toys that they can donate for our teddy raffle stall which will be here at our Open day on the 11th August ☺️ As you can see, Star Bobs is very partial to his teddy and he is getting quite worried that if we don't get enough toys donated we may have no option but to use his! Good quality soft toys of any size or shape can be dropped off at the Adoption Centre any day between 11am and 3pm. We would be incredibly grateful ( and so would Mr Bobs!) Thank you so much 😻😽

Black cat appreciation post!
Maddie has been in her new home for one whole year!
Here's what her family has to say:
"She settled in so quickly - within an hour she was out of her carrier and playing with toys and on her first evening with us she was sitting on my lap. She has brought a huge amount of happiness into our house and she is very loved, she was a perfect match for us."
We hope Maddie and her family enjoy many more happy years together.

Current feline resident Nutmeg is proud to reveal our change of name, from York Adoption Centre to North Yorkshire Cat Centre!

This change represents the larger scale of work we do to make life better for cats across North Yorkshire, as well as the way our volunteers and employees team up to make a big impact for cats, even in smaller towns, villages and communities.

By dropping the word ‘adoption’, we now show our full commitment to caring for cats at every stage of their lives and the wide range of support we give to cat owners to keep their pets happy, healthy and safe.

Together we’re on a mission to reach every cat, because life is better with cats. 🐾

The lovely PingPing was adopted from us around three months ago. As you can see she looks very happy and settled, quite different to the cat that first came into us here at the Adoption Centre. We love to see our ex residents looking happy and content, spending time outdoors in the sun and having catnaps when the days are not so sunny. All the best to PingPing and her new family.

Record breaking at not even 12 hours after leaving us this is our former resident Love Bomb (now BJ) well and truly making himself at home there judging from this photo! This handsome golden oldie was such a character during his stay here with us and we're so happy that we get to finally see him in a loving home which he surely deserves after straying for so long! Have a long and happy life Love Bomb! 😽

The lovely Mable certainly looks to have made herself at home! Here is what her family have to say.
"Mabel has settled in brilliantly. She's eating well and sleeping well, she is a proper character. A really lovely friendly cat and we're all over the moon with her. She's made herself right at home in no time at all. "
All the best to Mable and her new family.

We've had a lovely update from Stella and Graih formally known as Bacon Rarebit and Croque Monsieur who have just had their 1st birthday! Their owners tell us that after 7 months into living with them, they definitely own the home! They’re the 'chicken protectors and cupboard dwellers' of their rural estate! Here they are enjoying the fresh country air along with their feathered friends! Happy lives girls! 😁

Have we got a Super Sunday afternoon treat for you all! We would like to introduce the very gorgeous, the very handsome, Jimmy Chew. Despite having oodles of personality this sleek black boy has been in our care since December and so far his purrfect home has eluded him 😢 With his energetic ways he really lives life to the max and anyone lucky enough to meet him can't help but feel the love! This poor lad is getting very frustrated in the Adoption Centre and this means that when people come to see him he can be a little full on! If you can offer a calming environment and can embrace a young, sometimes boisterous, cat then Jimmy may be the one for you. Once Jimmy can go outside and feel the wind through his whiskers we are confident he will be a much more chilled chap. Here he is enjoying a well deserved fuss ❤

We love this photo of the wriggly Mar (was bagel lips)

Mar is making steady progress in her new home and is becoming more confident and is enjoying exploring her new home, especially in the middle of the night when she can zoom around freely.

Her owners say "While she is still understandably shy, she has started to really enjoy a stroke and scratch, and can't help but flop over onto her side and purr her heart out whenever we scritch behind her ears. She has started using her new scratching pole and enjoys playing with ribbons and strings"

We are so happy that this lovely girl is settling in well with her new family.

Just another day in the life of the cat, here Gertrude aka Saffron is showing us just how hard life is...I mean come on seriously, how comfy does that cat look? Her new owner tells us that she's taken no time at all to sample the finer things her new home has to offer and the photo evidence certainly confirms this! Gertrude was a very shy girl when she first came into our care but all of that TLC has brought her a long way and we are thrilled this beautiful little soul has finally found her happy place! 😻

Isaac here is settling in nicely to his new digs!
We hear this cheeky chap very much enjoys the view from his new windowsill perch and likes 'helping' his new owner in their office regularly causing a stroke or two of minor keyboard mischief! And we would expect nothing less from this handsome goof ball! 😼 Have a happy life kid!

Ping Ping was adopted a week ago and is settling into her new home very well. She enjoys having her head stroked, purring loudly and spends a lot of time sitting at windows looking out at her new garden. We are so glad that this lovely girl has found her forever home.

Great to have another update on how our recently homed duo are getting on in their new home! Freddie Four Paws and Timmy Tadpole were hilarious to watch here at the Adoption Centre and it sounds like they are keeping the fun coming at home with their new owner too! Hopefully you all made Santa's good list last year and got all you wanted and more. But if there are any unwanted gifts that are just sat around collecting dust and you would be happy to donate them to the Adoption Centre so we can use them as raffle prizes at our next Open Day, the cats would be ever so grateful to you for your support! 😄😽
