🐾 Is your dog going self-employed on walks? 🐾
We all love our walks with our dogs. They are a good chance to get out of the house, get some fresh air and spend some time with our best friend.
But our walks may not always be stress-free, particularly if we have a working breed who is looking for an outlet to use what nature intended and decides to become self-employed!
Last week, I watched a man spend an hour just standing still and looking at his working spaniel in a field. He made the odd attempt to recall but his dog paid no attention, it was searching for rabbits! This spaniel was definitely self-employed! Making his own fun and enjoying it!
One of the things I always do on a walk with my spaniel Ramsey is give him a job to do. He has a little downtime yes but he absolutely loves to play search games, which means he is engaged with me and is having fun with me. He isn’t focusing on what else he could be getting up to!
This was a typical walk for us, starting with a few basic retrieves, moving onto some multi-drop hides, followed by some blind searches. All while having a mooch and enjoying his environment.

💫 Tracking 💫 Tracking is a fabulous scent activity to do with your dog for so many reasons! It ignites your dog’s seeking system and allows them to do what nature intended all while keeping them calm and relaxed! It was so lovely to see Maisie having so much fun today with some simple scentwork games! She has previously been quite reserved but she was really going for it today! Her training is definitely helping her to grow in confidence!⭐️
