Care shelter for protection of stray or injured animals in the area of Gouves, Crete. Καταφύγιο για την προστασία αδέσποτων και τραυματισμένων ζώων στις Γούβες. The base can be found,between Gouves and Kokkini-Hani,on the old national road, just follow the signs to the aquarium. If travelling by public transport get off at bus stop number 9.

Το καταφύγιο βρίσκεται στην παλιά αμερικάνικη Βάση, στι

ς Γούρνες Κρήτης. Μόλις 100 μέτρα από το ΕΝΥΔΡΕΙΟ.

Η Βάση βρίσκεται ανάμεσα στις Γούβες και το Κοκκίνι Χάνι, στην παλαιά εθνική οδό. Μπορεί κάποιος εύκολα να το βρει απλά ακολουθώντας τις πινακίδες για το Ενυδρείο ή αλλιώς απλά να κατέβει στη στάση 9, αν χρησιμοποιεί λεωφορείο.

At the start of the year, Hope and her tiny puppies were abandoned, left to survive on their own. Their future looked uncertain, but thanks to incredible local students, a loving foster, and supporters like you, we were able to rescue them in time.

We’ve been quieter than usual these past weeks. Why? Because we’ve been working on something monumental—a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to change not just the lives of individual stray animals but the entire cycle of neglect and suffering here in Crete.

For years, we’ve worked tirelessly—rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals. But as we look to the future, we know it’s time for more. It’s time to break the cycle. It’s time to end the suffering for good. This year, we poured everything into creating a vision for a Stray-Free Crete. A 5-year plan to sterilize, educate, legislate, and build—a future where no animal is abandoned, neglected, or left to suffer.
And here’s the best part: we’re ready.

* We’ve developed a plan down to the last detail.
* We are ready to start building

One More Little Life in Need ‼🆘

Just when we thought our shelter couldn’t take any more, a 9th puppy was abandoned—alone, frightened, and shivering in the cold. Left to fend for himself on the big road, he was found by pure chance right before being hit by a car. Without help, he would probably not have seen the morning. Now he is in one of our already full foster homes, getting food, warmth, love and safety.

But this one little life, like so many others, has stretched us to the brink. We owe more than €15,000 to vets and for food, and we have run out of any savings to keep going. These abandoned puppies need us, and we need you. We’re asking for a miracle—not just for this 9th puppy, but for every innocent life depending on us. Snoopy’s Story: A Testament to What We Can Achieve Together

This year has been filled with stories of heartbreak and hope, and none encapsulate the journey of rescue better than Snoopy’s.

When tourists stumbled upon Snoopy in a desolate field, his body told a story of suffering. He was skeletal, barely able to stand, and blind—abandoned because he had fallen ill. Left to die, he had no one. But he wasn’t forgotten.

It was your support that allowed us to act. Snoopy was rushed to the clinic, where he clung to life for more than a month. His recovery was slow and uncertain, but thanks to medication, careful monitoring, and sheer determination, he began to heal. Once stable, he was welcomed into a foster home, where love, good food, and safety transformed him. Today, Snoopy is unrecognizable—a gentle, affectionate dog who has overcome so much.

This year, we’ve rescued dogs from unimaginable conditions, nursed them back to health, and given them a chance at happiness. Behind every saved life, every wagging tail, is a collective effort—a community that refuses to turn away.

Snoopy still waits for his forever home. His journey reminds us why this work matters and what is possible when compassion is met with action.

It's time for this beautiful and sweet senior dog to find a golden basket. Or any other colour, as long as it's soft. Nala will be 8 years old in a few months. When you watch the videos you wouldn't give her that: this girl still loves to run! Obviously she doesn't get the chance every day.

Nala is affectionate and sweet. She is good with other dogs, but she prefers calm dogs. She can get too excited when seeing cats.

Nala is a mirror dog: when you're happy, she's happy, when you're stressed, she gets stressed. If you think of anyone who can give this darling dog a loving home, please share Nala's post.

What a cutie.... This boy Jolando is an amazing dog. He is shy at first, but when he feels comfortable he is very affectionate. He feels more comfortable with women than with men.
Jolando gets along well with other dogs and also with cats. He has a calm personality. Together with his brother and sister, but without his mother, he was found by tourists as small puppy. Now he has grown into a magnificent dog. He was born in June 2023, is medium sized and weighs around 16 kg.
