This small male dog, weighing just 6kg, was brought to us by a lady and her teenage children. He had a suspected injury, and an ultrasound revealed a hernia that requires surgery.

But there’s a complication - his blood results showed dangerously high white cell levels (50,000), indicating a serious infection. Surgery isn't an option until he stabilises, so he’s now hospitalised, receiving IV fluids and strong antibiotics.

The vet is closely monitoring him, and we’ll update as soon as he’s ready for surgery. For now, he just needs time, treatment, and a little hope.

Poor old Frixos was back at the vet this morning because he hasn’t been eating. Given how frail he was when we took him in, every meal he refuses is a real concern. His latest blood test results bring a mix of news - some progress, but also new challenges.

On the positive side, his hematocrit levels have improved, which is a small but significant step forward. However, his Leishmania remains too active, so he still has a long way to go. We ran new tests on his kidneys and liver, and thankfully, both are functioning well. That’s a relief, as it means we can safely start him on Milteforan, which is essential to getting the Leishmania under control.

Frixos has already been through so much. When he was first rescued, he was barely 2.8kg, nearly blind, hard of hearing and so weak he could hardly stand. His matted coat hid sores all over his frail body, and his health was in a shambles. Seeing him struggle now is heartbreaking, but he's safe, and we’re doing everything possible to help him regain his strength.

His journey to recovery will take time, but we’ll keep doing all we can to give him the best chance. We’ll share more updates as we go and, hopefully, soon some brighter news.

It’s been a while since I last updated you on Silky Nutmeg Ganache… and just look at her now!

From the malnourished, discarded girl we found waiting by the roadside in November, she’s now thriving - her weight is up, her health has improved, and those fabulous 17cm silky ears are as luxurious as ever! And let’s not forget those gorgeous golden eyebrows, which give her such a distinguished look.

A huge thank you to Elaine for choosing her name and to every single one of you who has helped make her recovery possible. Whether through donations, kind words, or sharing her story, you’ve all played a part in giving her the future she so desperately deserved.

Silky is proof that love, care, and a little patience can transform a life. I can’t wait to see what her next chapter holds! ❤️

Update on the Village Cat - Great news – our village cat is now in foster care and doing really well! After his eye removal surgery, he’s been recovering comfortably, and his breathing is being monitored, but so far, no concerns.

He’s settled in nicely, enjoying the warmth and care of his foster home while he continues to heal. A huge thank you to everyone who has been following his journey – it’s wonderful to see him safe and on the mend!

Update on the village cat - he's had the surgery to remove his damaged right eye, and thankfully, everything went smoothly. The vet also noted some breathing issues, which will need monitoring, but for now, he’s stable and recovering well.

He’s getting the care he needs while he heals, and the locals who look after him will continue to keep him safe. We’re covering his medical costs and a big thank you to everyone who has supported him so far.

Life as a stray is never easy, and for this poor cat, it just got even harder. Living on the streets of one of the villages, he was struggling with a badly damaged eye, likely the result of infection or injury. A kind local woman, who regularly feeds and watches over him, couldn’t stand to see him suffer so she scooped him up and took him straight to the vet, where unfortunately it was clear his eye couldn’t be saved.

Now, after undergoing surgery to remove the eye, he needs time to heal, and he needs us to make sure he gets the care and support required for a full recovery. The villagers who look out for him will continue to feed him, but the costs of medical treatment, post-op care, and medications are more than they can manage alone.

That’s where we come in. With your help, we can cover his vet bills and ensure he recovers safely before returning to the only home he’s ever known. No cat should have to suffer simply because they have no owner, so let’s show him he does have people who care!

After yesterday's sad news, I wanted to share an update on little Frixos, who came into our care last week. He’s had a medicated bath to help soothe his sore, fragile skin, and during the process, most of his remaining fur came away. It was so matted and stuck to his skin from years of neglect that it couldn’t be saved. Now, although he’s virtually bald, he’s clean, comfortable, and finally free from the pain his coat had caused.

Frixos is a tiny, elderly boy, around 10 years old. He’s nearly blind, hard of hearing, and weighs just 2.8kg. When he was surrendered to us, he was in terrible shape - covered in sores, his health failing, and battling Leishmania with dangerously low hematocrit levels. Now, he’s safe, warm, and resting at the vet, wrapped in blankets and receiving the care he’s always deserved. His road to recovery is still long, but he’s no longer suffering in silence.

Thank you to everyone who has shown love and support for Frixos - whether through donations, sharing his story, or simply keeping him in your thoughts. You’ve already made such a difference in his life, and we remain hopeful for brighter days ahead for this little fighter.

I'll continue to keep you updated on his progress.

It’s with a heavy heart I share the news that the Setter boy we rescued just two days ago has sadly passed away. I wish I could've been there with him, but his passing followed its own timetable. What gives me solace is knowing that in his final moments he was warm, comfortable, and no longer in pain thanks to the medication and care he received.

For the first time in his life, he was loved, and he mattered - not just to me but to hundreds of kind souls around the world who sent their thoughts, love and support his way. While we couldn’t save him, we ensured his passing was peaceful, dignified, and free from suffering. And that is something we can hold on to.

Thank you all for being part of his story, for caring about him, and for showing him that his life had value. Together, we made sure he didn’t leave this world alone.

Run free now, sweet boy. You mattered. 🌈💔

Last night, an elderly dog was found trembling and struggling to breathe in a small village. Fortunately a kind-hearted local couldn’t turn her back on him and rushed him to vet Rania, where he was admitted to the hospital immediately. The action was great and I applaud it, but the bill will fall to me 🫤.

Sadly, his blood results came back with bad news - he’s in heart failure, and we’re still waiting to learn more about his condition. Right now, he’s in the best possible hands, receiving the care and treatment he so desperately needs and should have got from his owner. But what can I do? Tell Rania to forget it, I'm not paying the bill, put him back on the street in the snow to die? What would you do?

This poor soul has clearly been through so much, and we’ll be doing everything we can to help him on his journey. Please keep him in your thoughts, and if you’re able, consider supporting our work to help animals like him who have no one else to turn to 👉

I’ve just been back to the shelter to load up the car with more feed for the stray dogs and cats on the streets. While I was there, I snapped a few photos of the gang so you can see them for yourself! Everyone at the shelter is fed and watered, and I’ll be heading back later to give them an extra ration to help keep the cold at bay.

If you could spare even the cost of a cup of coffee, it would really help us cover the extra feed we’re going through today – and it would be so appreciated!

Last night, I was alerted to a further situation - a beautiful Setter, my favourite breed, lying by the roadside, unable to move. It's believed he'd been there for several days after being hit by a car, suffering alone and helpless.

I rushed the poor boy to the vets clinic, but his condition remains critical. He's an adult male - with no microchip, of course, despite it being the law - but the heavy chain and bell around his neck suggest he was owned by a hunter as this bred is popular with them and the bell's used to guide the owner when they're out of sight up in the mountains.

We’re doing everything we can for him, but his injuries and the time he spent suffering without help have taken a heavy toll. Please keep him in your thoughts and, if you’re able, consider donating to help with his treatment and care.

No animal should be abandoned to this fate.

This is the reality of neglect - a frail, vulnerable boy whose life was filled with hardship. At least 10 years old and weighing just 2.8kg, he's a shadow of the dog he once was. His coat was matted beyond recognition, his body covered in sores, and his health in shambles. Nearly blind, hard of hearing, and suffering from leishmania, his hematocrit is dangerously low and more blood test results are pending.

His owner, an elderly man, could no longer "care" for him and reached out for help, which I'm glad he did. Now safe with us, this little soul has a chance for a better life but his journey to recovery will be long and expensive. He’s already undergone grooming to free him from his painful, matted fur, but he will need extensive veterinary care, good nutrition, and time to heal plus ongoing care.

Our vet bills are crippling us, but we couldn’t turn our backs on him. We’ve always been committed to saving the forgotten, the neglected and the ones who've suffered in silence. This little boy's no exception. With your help, we can give him the care he so desperately needs and deserves.

💔 Will you help us rewrite his story?

A huge thank you to everyone who shared their wonderful name suggestions for this beautiful Setter girl. It’s always so hard to choose, but one suggestion stood out. Sarah Phelps, who sadly lost her beloved senior girl, Dots, earlier this week, offered the name Tulip. While not named after Dots, we felt this was a lovely way to honor the life of her much-loved companion.

And Tulip must be a very lucky name indeed! This sweet girl has just been chosen for UK homing by Greek Animal Rescue. Soon, they’ll be sharing her story to help her find the perfect forever family.

What a week for an abandoned Setter from Karditsa - a new name, and now, a golden ticket to a bright and happy future. Here’s to Tulip and the wonderful life ahead of her! Thank you everyone 💛.

I'm delighted to introduce you to our newest rescue boy, Fotis, a name beautifully suggested by Joanne Swan - thank you, Jo, for this lovely choice!

Fotis came into our care just two days ago after we shared his heartbreaking rescue story, and while his recovery journey has only just begun, we’re pleased to say he’s doing as well as can be expected. This brave little man has a long road ahead, but with the love and care he’s now receiving, we’re hopeful for a brighter future.

Thank you all for your continued support, donations, encouragement, and of course wonderful name suggestions - it means so much to us and to the animals we help. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on Fotis’ progress in the coming days 💛.

If there’s one breed I can’t resist, it’s a Setter! They’re a little scatty, a little mad, but so full of love and joy - and that’s exactly why I adore them. With plenty of hunters in and around Karditsa, abandoned Setters often find their way into our care, and this beautiful girl is the latest to join us. She’s ready to start a new chapter in life, but first, she needs a name! Could you help us find the perfect one for her?

Here’s what we know about her:

Needs a name: Suggestions welcome!
Blood test: All clear.
Gender: Female.
Age: Approximately 1 year old.
Status: Neutered and vaccinated.
Character: Very sweet and good-natured.

Size:
Floor to top of the head: 66 cm.
Tail to nose: 64 cm.
Up to the shoulder: 55 cm.
Neck circumference: 29 cm.
Chest circumference: 54 cm.
Weight: 14.5 kg.

She’s got all the energy, charm, and playfulness that make Setters so special. Could you help us with a name for this lovely lady?

Yesterday, while driving along a busy road, I spotted this tiny, fragile soul – lost, practically blind, nearly deaf and utterly vulnerable. Time was critical as it's a busy main road and I had to act fast, fearing for his safety amidst the chaos of traffic. Thankfully, he didn’t resist and allowed me to scoop him up... You never know in these situations if they're going to bite you, run in to incoming traffic etc. so ideally I try and approach quietly and calmly, but this road was too busy and his danger too immediate to hesitate!

This elderly boy, weighing just 4.5kg, had endured far more than he should. His matted coat was caked in dirt and filth, his skin thick and inflamed from neglect. Back at the vets three of us worked to carefully trim away the mess, a delicate task given the state of his fragile body.

He’s now safe in a small house where I can keep those not able to withstand the lively big shelter, where he's resting. Blood tests revealed he’s positive for heartworm, but thankfully, nothing else alarming. He had no microchip, but someone must've cared for him as he wouldn't have survived to his age on the streets. Despite everything, he remains gentle and cooperative, as though he understands he's finally in safe hands.

This little warrior is a testament to the quiet resilience of animals abandoned and left to fend for themselves. He deserves warmth, safety, and dignity in his golden years. For now, he is safe, but his journey to recovery and hope is just beginning. Let's have some name suggestions, please?
