Thank you for your patience as we’ve been working on this urgent case. I’d like you all to meet Michael, our latest rescue and a puppy who has already faced so much in his short life. This poor, sweet soul was hit by a car in one of the villages back in August. Only last week did he appear on our radar after a post went up from a kind woman who had taken him into her garden to keep him safe.
Michael is in critical condition, with only one good leg to rely on. His back legs are completely paralyzed, and one of his front legs was broken in the accident, leaving him unable to move or support himself properly. Right now, even a set of dog wheels isn’t possible for him, as he can only use one leg effectively.
Today, I took him to Sofia Zoi’s clinic in Larissa for urgent surgery on his injured front leg. This was a necessary first step to give him some support, as it’s essential he can bear weight on his front end. Tomorrow, I’ll be driving him to Athens for an MRI, where we’ll learn more about his spinal injuries and determine the best plan forward.
At just 7-8 months old and weighing only 13kg, Michael is still a puppy and has such a gentle, hopeful spirit despite everything he’s been through. Tonight, he’s here with me, resting after his surgery. Tomorrow’s trip will be another long day for him, and I’m asking for all your good wishes, prayers, or any practical support you can offer. The costs for his treatment are estimated at around €1900 to get this little one on the path to recovery. Any donation, no matter how small, would make a world of difference for Michael’s future.
Thank you for keeping Michael in your thoughts, and for any help you can give to make sure he gets the care he so desperately needs.

Paralysed puppy walks again!
Fantastic news to share - thanks to your amazing support, this little guy is finally on his feet after a long and tough journey. When I first saw him in vet Panagiotis's clinic, left there by the woman who initially found him, I knew I couldn’t just walk away. No one else was there to help, so we took a chance together – and it's paid off!
It hasn’t been easy. He’s been through so much pain and frustration, and there were nights I couldn’t sleep, wondering if he would ever walk again or how I’d manage to support him if he didn’t. But today, all those sleepless nights and his difficult days are worth it, as I finally see him on his feet, ready to live his life to the fullest.
Now, he’s ready for the next step – he needs a name! Drop your suggestions in the comments, and let’s give him an identity to match his courage and spirit. ❤️
Take a few minutes to watch his full journey, from his first moments at the clinic to his triumphant steps. Seeing him walk is something you won’t want to miss:

Thank you for being there for him. Let’s find him the perfect name together! #puppyrescue #puppylove #paralysedPuppy #happyeverafter #karditsa
Good afternoon from Karditsa! Remember Bonny, the tiny 5kg puppy shot twice and with the bone sticking out of her leg? She's recovered from the first surgery to have her damaged back leg removed so yesterday it was time to take her to vet Rania to have her neuter done. She really is absolutely adorable! 😊
I wanted to give you an exciting update on little Bonnie, the brave 4kg puppy I rescued from the side of the road after being shot twice and run over. As you can see, she's absolutely thriving! This tiny girl, with her adorably oversized tail, is adjusting beautifully to life as a tri-paw. She's already using that big tail to help balance as she finds her new center of gravity.
Bonnie is an absolute delight - full of playful energy, always up for a game with her toys or a romp with the other dogs. Her joyful character is truly starting to shine, and I couldn't be happier with her progress.
And the best part? Thanks to our incredible UK homing partners, Greek Animal Rescue, Bonnie has a fantastic foster home waiting for her! She’ll be making the journey to the UK once she’s neutered and fully healed.
A massive thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, and supported us along the way. It's your kindness and generosity that make rescues like Bonnie's possible, giving these strays the second chance they deserve 🙏♥️🐶

I know it’s tough to watch a puppy in so much pain, but imagine being right here, seeing it firsthand. My heart is heavy today, and to be honest, I’m struggling. The sheer number of animals needing urgent care is overwhelming, and my vet bills are mounting faster than I can keep up – and it's only early autumn.
I can’t thank my regular donors enough; you are incredible, and your support means the world to me. But to the thousands who visit my page, I really need help. My vet debt is rising at a scary rate, especially with so many animals requiring surgeries and long recoveries – like this little one.
He’s just a baby, only 5 or 6 months old, and already facing so much suffering. He was found injured, unable to move, and in agonising pain. Right now, he’s in the care of our vet team, and we’re hoping for a miracle.
X-rays show multiple fractures, and he has a severe lip injury. His tiny body is so fragile, and he’s on strong pain relief, but his life hangs in the balance as we work to stabilise him.
We’re doing everything we can, but I need your help. Sending love and prayers is appreciated, but what we really need are donations to cover his treatment. Even the smallest contribution could make a world of difference. Every penny goes directly to these animals because we are all volunteers. Together, we can give him the second chance he deserves.

Introducing rescue boy, Victor
On Thursday I shared this poor boy who I rescued with a broken pelvis, deep lacerations on his belly, and injuries to his tail, likely from being dragged by a car, and asked long-standing supporter, Bonnie Cobb Scott, to suggest a name for him - so please let me introduce you to Victor, who will have victory over his accident and damage he's suffered! A brilliant name, Bonnie!
Victor has a long journey ahead as he’ll need about two months of rest and rehabilitation after surgery, but we have a big challenge: we don't have a safe place for him to stay during this critical time. Can you help? Even offering a secure garden space where he can stay safe and protected while he heals would make a world of difference. Victor needs a place to rest, and we are also looking for his forever home. Could that be with you?
Thank you so much to everyone who helps and supports our work with strays like Victor who have nobody else in their corner fighting for them, you make this possible.
Glad to feedback that Vicky is doing great, still under treatment of course, but her snake bite wound is clearing up really well and the swelling has virtually gone! Not sure if my singing helped, she just tried to hide 🤣.
Have a great weekend 😊
Oh Vicky... What have you been up to? Vicky is one of our long term residents and will, I think, always be with us as she's not suitable for homing... But this morning she greets me with one side of her face all swollen. I bet she's been bitten by a snake! She's fine and I'll keep a close eye on her, it's something that happens here occasionally... And next week if she's another one, she'll still try to get it... You can't teach an old dog new tricks 😁.
Gargrave Help A Dog Day
I want to say a massive thank you to one of our adopters, Joan, after she organised and held her amazing annual "Help A Dog Day" on A Monday in Gargrave, near Skipton in Yorkshire. Joan adopted Souzi and Daphne from us through our UK homing partners, Greek Animal Rescue, but has never forgotten those back here in Greece who are still hoping for their forever home and who need our help until that day comes.
Joan sent lots of lovely pictures from the day and told me: "We had a brilliant day, it was hot and sunny and we had lots of two and four-legged visitors. We're still totting the money up and people are still donating, but here are some photos from the day.
"Look at Souzi's confidence! She's come so far since she arrived here! Daphne is always right
there with her, letting Souzi take the lead. All the dogs in the photos are rescue dogs and all were fantastically well behaved."
This event helps both us and Joan's local rescue, so it really is a special event, and I am so grateful for your incredible support for our animals.
Some good news! On 20th May I shared this beautiful female stray cat who lives outside the Shelter but who's so tame she comes in everyday for feeding and actually climbs in with the dogs and rubs up against them. While this is really endearing, I've been petrified one day she was going to climb into the wrong pen and there would be a horrible accident... Not all our dogs are so cat friendly!
Thankfully, Renee in the UK contacted me offering her a home in Sussex with her and husband Trevor, and last Thursday she arrived safely with them! I couldn't be happier, and as you can see in the updated video, so is she! Now called Lilly, I can't thank Greek Animal Rescue enough for their help by paying for her preparation to travel and UK Customs charges, and our wonderful transporter partners, TaxiPet, who transported her to the UK with such care, as they always do.
Have a wonderful safe and loved life, Lilly!
Do you remember our poor Pointer girl who was abandoned and tied to a lamppost at a busy intersection in town at the end of May?
I thought you might like a little update, and here she is, feeling much brighter, healthier, and most definitely safer! We've called her Despina, and I like to think that her terror at being left with no escape, no idea why she was abandoned, and no one to help, with the noise and constant rush of vehicles passing close by, will now be a distant memory, never to be repeated. 💖
Thank you to everyone who supports us and helps give dogs like Despina a second chance! 🐾✨
So when the thermometer says 35c (95f), what else do you want to do but shovel sawdust?!!! To be fair, my role was more supervision, but still... 🤣. That stuff goes everywhere, I'm going to be finding sawdust in my car for months! I'll show you some more photos tomorrow, but don't worry, we got a cold drink on the way back to the Shelter. Huge thanks to Chris for being such amazing help, especially with my arm still recovering.
