Meet "Ellie"...

Arriving at our shelter as an emergency last weekend was this sweet young female kitten aged about 10 weeks. She was found by one of our kind supporters in Kokkari, Samos after she was hit and squashed by a passing motorbike.

We immediately made an x-ray at the Samos vet which revealed that she has a badly broken pelvis.

She will now spend many weeks in our care having cortisone and a compatible painkiller, complete bed rest and the softest bed. At this time, she is temporarily paralysed but in time we hope that she will learn to walk again.

A rescue story.....

Every single cat at our shelter in Samos has a unique story to tell....they all arrived with us because of sickness, injury or they faced danger in some way.

Our work then is to work very hard to get them back to full health, grow up well and recover from injury and sickness .Sometimes this can take many months of care and treatment, and can use a lot of our donations.

Winter sunset in Samos....

The winter days at our shelter are quiet and relaxing for our rescue cats, and after a long hot summer it's a good time to play and enjoy sunbathing.

Two years ago, a tiny orphan kitten arrived at our shelter, very weak and with many health problems. Today (and named "Custard") at sunset, she showed us her fantastic orange colours to add to the sunsets natural glow. No photo enhancement at all this photo.

Everyone is so hungry right now...

The colder winter weather has arrived in Samos and the rescue cats at our shelter and the many street cats we feed daily are eating so much more food to keep warm.

At our shelter, we use around 7-8kg of dry food daily and around the same with wet pate food.

We urgently need to make a dry food order and we need your help. Please help to make a good order in the next days... Please reference "food" in your donation.

Can I help with the laundry??

As a charity, we have had a shelter in Samos for over 14 years, looking after sick, injured and vulnerable cat cats in Samos.

With so many cats to care for each day, it's really vital to ensure a high level of cleanliness and a best possible place for our rescue cats to live as we try to help them to the best possible future.

A good part of our donations go towards cleaning products and supporting a clean and well run shelter. The daily laundry for the cats is a big task...seen here is one of our handsome boys in the laundry basket giving the best help.

A really great happy ending..

Many of our supporters will remember the story of the male cat that arrived at our shelter in early September. He had suffered a horrible road accident and his lower jaw was severely broken.

After an emergency operation at the Samos vet, his lower jaw was "wired" together and he could only eat liquid food.

Now eight weeks later, his wire has been removed, he is sterilised, vaccinated and enjoying a full happy life again. We have also been approached with an offer of a forever home which is the most perfect happy ending. He will be called "Mr Darcy".

An alternative way to support our work...

We are aware that some of our supporters don't have access to the PayPal donation system - so why not consider a more direct way to help our day to day work. A cat food order!!

Meet Mr Truffle... again!

Many cats and kittens arrive at our shelter in Samos in very poor condition, especially with eye infections and cat flu. Our volunteers work every day to give medication, care and attention to help recovery so a cat can go onwards to a better happier life.

On such sweet boy is "Mr Truffle" who arrived with us on 9 June from the village of Ireon, Samos. His right eye was severely damaged from feline herpes virus.

Now five months later, he has made a full recovery, sterilised and fully vaccinated. He has no sickness anymore and is happy and healthy. Next summer we will offer him for adoption to a forever home in Europe.

Our summer season for visiting comes to an end on Wednesday 25, this week. We will not be open in the afternoons after this date.

Emergency kitten....(Graphic content).

This sweet female kitten aged about 9 weeks was brought to our shelter on Monday after being found in Pythagorio, Samos. Her back right leg was severely injured and the bone was protruding from an open wound.

On Tuesday, she had an emergency operation with a vet to fix and close the wound and ensure the bone was inside the knee joint and the skin stitched and closed again.

She is doing very well and will stay on painkillers and antibiotics for some time during recovery at our shelter.

Another day... another adoption cat...

Meet "Fien" who arrived at our shelter on 12 July after being found at the illegal immigrants camp in Samos. She was a young kitten who suffered a bad time and abuse at that location, so we agreed to rescue her from any further suffering.

This morning her life changed forever as she flies to Amsterdam to a wonderful forever home. We are delighted.

A tabby cat boy and a kind policeman...

This sweet tiger boy arrived at our shelter yesterday after visiting the Samos vet. He suffered a bad road accident in Mytillinii village, Samos. His lower jaw was badly broken.

Luckily, a kind Samos policeman found him after the accident and took him straight to the Samos vet. We organised for his jaw to be "wired" and for him to be castrated.

His wire will stay in place now for many weeks while recovery continues. During that time, he can only eat very soft food. He will stay in our hospital area at our shelter.

I'm a cute orphan....

Our shelter is currently home to around 25 orphan kittens from various parts of Samos, with another 10 in foster care with our own volunteers.

As you can imagine, they need a lot of care and our attention, with medication, cleaning and extra kitten food. This is a big strain on our donations, and your support is vital to them growing up happy and healthy.

Meet Howard.... again!

Many of our supporters will remember the story of the tiny male kitten that arrived at our shelter from the village of Ireon, Samos on 20 May with a severe infection in both eyes.

Now just over three months later, he has grown into a happy healthy boy. Sadly, his infection was so bad that we couldn't save his eyes and he has had an operation to remove and "close" both eye areas. He now weighs 2.5kg and has no further health issues.

He very active and joins our gang of fully blind cats (his face was dirty this morning after breakfast!!).
