Dear AgapiVet Family, we'd like to inform you that Dr. Loukia and Sofia will be at a veterinary conference learning the most up-to-date life saving skills. As such, our clinic will be closed Wednesday, January 22nd until Friday, January 31st.

Although not veterinary related, we thought to share, as our doctor's family was directly involved in this project! The Hellenic diaspora have gifted a recreation of the Antikythera Mechanism to the island of Rhodes. It is hosted outside the Tourist School in Thermai. For those of you not familiar with the Antikythera Mechanism. It is the oldest known example of an analogue computer. It could be used to predict astronomical positions and eclipses decades in advance. It could also be used to track the four-year cycle of athletic games similar to an Olympiad, the cycle of the ancient Olympic Games. For those living on the island of Rhodes or visiting it, we encourage you to please visit the mechanism. It is amazing! (Photo from ribbon cutting event.)

Dear AgapiVet Family,
Our partner, EcoPrime Solutions, has informed us that they will not be offering cremation services for animals. Unfortunately, they are the only company that can legally offer this service on the island. As such, we can no longer offer cremation for our clients. We can arrange burial services for families for a fee.

As many of you know, water shortages and power outages can occur frequently here on the island. This often creates several problems when caring for our patients. As such, Dr. Loukia reached out to Not One More Vet, Inc for assistance who immediately provided a grant to purchase and install a battery-ran system to keep our equipment running during those times our area is without electricity. We would like to inform our AgapiVet Family that due to Dr. Loukia's teaching responsibilities, she will be out of office August 15th until September 4th. Our nurse, Sophia, will be here August 16-August 23rd to assist you with any food or pharmacy orders. Please call 22410-41002 to book your annual appointments prior to this time. As many of you know, AgapiVet recently hosted faculty, vet students, and alumni from the University of Illinois. Together we helped spay / neuter and treat roughly 250 homeless animals here at the clinic and at the municipal shelter of Rhodes! Special thanks to Drs. Gene Pavlovski and Anita Kalonaros for helping to keep the group on track, the Rhodes Municipality for allowing us to continue our volunteer efforts, Paideia Study Abroad Programs with the Pan-Rhodian Society "Apollo" for their continuous support, and all of you for always contributing to our "tip" jar!
