Chilli 🌶️😍❤️ from July - March!
Kaloni, Chilli, Duchess & Soldier having a blast ❤️😍
Kaloni was one of our first rescues and to this day remains the most challenging we’ve had. We spent so many winter nights sleeping outside with Kaloni, literally trying to keep her alive. A lot of time & expenses have gone into this mare.
This August marks 3 years since her rescue. Kaloni was aggressive when she first came to us in 2021 but over time she & i developed a very strong bond. March 2023 she managed to find a really good home but is back with us now. All horses we rehome are given on the basis that they return here if circumstances change and it was through no fault of their own.
Kaloni has been showing a lot of aggression since last week when she returned but she still knows me well and hasn’t actually hurt me since she’s been home. Of course I’m cautious even with the most placid animals as we should always respect them but i don’t feel that she would hurt me.
I speak to her in a silly voice & usually in Greek. She likes it for some reason 😂 this video is from today. She’s an extremely sensitive girl who likes affection on her own terms. I oblige her as much as possible, she’s had an incredibly difficult life and it’s clear she was abused in her past somewhere along the line before rescue. She is approximately 20 years old with COPD and had an array of physical issues.
I’ve had a few questions about her from people unfamiliar with Kaloni, so I’m happy to make another post with all her story - let me know if you guys want that!
P.S.
Thank you for all the support on the last post.
Every word means so much to us and it’s so amazing that these horses can touch the lives of so many, and leave their hoof prints on all our hearts ❤️ you have all really helped us deal through these difficult times

Meet Aggelos & Lex 🐴
What keeps me going & motivated is seeing the difference in the horses that we rescue. Even if some of them can’t have a good quality of life in the long term, and not all of them can be 100% rehabilitated, we still see that spark come back, their appetite & zest for life. Even if we can only take their pain away for a few months, they know they are loved, they finally have the opportunity to live life as naturally as a horse can, and we are with them in their final moments. We take their pain away, but it becomes ours. For those who know and live the life of a rescuer, it is not without trial, great difficulty and an extreme sense of responsibility that taxes your soul.
The expenses, the emotional turmoil & the physical toll that rescuing takes… putting your own health and basic needs aside to help them, all of your free time, having to choose between your own doctor’s appointment and a horses vet visit, knowing that you’ll struggle but that it’s the right thing to do to correct everyone’s wrongs in the past towards these horses, intentional or unintentional, and choosing the animal with no doubt every time… and the negativity from those who would rather watch the world burn than to help it heal. Its all worth it to see these animals thriving and happy. It’s what they deserve. And we couldn’t do it without credit to wonderful supporters who also give to these horses, to help us help them, when they themselves are struggling too ❤️ some absolutely wonderful humans - the volunteers, the donors, the people backing us with a good word or a visit, or even a like & a share… it takes a village. We thank you all. We are all doing something pretty amazing here.
Gorgeous Pegasus 🥰 this old man doesn’t let anything slow him down
