Meet Pepe, our newest patient
🐾 Pepe is half-paralysed
🐾 Pepe wants to get to the feather anyway
🐾 Pepe decides willpower is stronger than muscles
Be like Pepe
Dogs, just as most mammals do have emotions, character and personality. You can't just make them do things for a treat, they need to be internally motivated to change their behaviour or alter their movement.
In the case of 'Yin' stepping over the Cavaletti rails clearly wasn't what she was hoping for.....
Καλό Πάσχα from Animal Rehab Crete!
Hugo & Gaia are celebrating in the grass, in preparation for tonight's loud & stressful festivities. Here are some tips to calm your animals during the sound of gunshots, fireworks and crowd noises:
🐾 Be still. Don't talk to them too much, they are already confused and contrary to popular belief - animals don't speak human. Responding verbally to their stress barks or meows only justifies their fear. They do speak body language, so lean against them (don't forcefully hug them) and take deep breaths.
🐾 Make a treat trap. You can fill a rubber toy with peanut butter or coconut oil, or hide little treats around the house and let them focus on their nose rather than their ears.
🐾 Turn up the TV or music in the house. Their ears are quite sensitive, so be thoughtful about it. It has been proven that classical Bach compositions have a structure that calms the brain, even of dogs & cats.
Animal Rehab Crete will be gone on holiday until the 24th of April. Enjoy the weekend and see you next week!

🐾 Loki has to use his nose and understand the width of his wheelchair to get to his food. Mental stimulation is important for every dog, especially if it is physically limited.
🐾 ADOPT | It's time for Loki to go to a forever home. Although he requires specific care, he is a low maintenance dog. Apart from changing his diapers and one or two daily wheelchair walks, the thing you will end up doing the most is giving cuddles. Contact us for more info.
🐾 DONATE | Before we send Loki off, we need to get him checked, chipped & jabbed. Help us help, by donating to us:

Loki's first play invitation by Gaia 🐾
He was somewhat puzzled at first, but it was clear the fun had started when Hugo joined in.
WAIT FOR IT
Patience is a virtue and Loki is still crawling towards recovery. Slowly, but with beautiful results so far. He is starting to get accustomed to a new way of walking with a wheelchair, learning to socialise without the use of his paralysed tail and he is showing a healthy dose of curiosity.
With the New Year around the corner, we want to thank everyone that has supported us in 2022. With you behind us, we have made so many small differences for animals in need of a little push. Let's continue pushing through the next year and with a little patience, hopefully these small changes will accumulate into something big.

Little Sheldon is slowly shaping up. The vet provided us with antibiotics and tools to keep the wound clean. It looks as if his neck wound makes biting and swallowing quite painful, so we have pureed some leafy foods to give and we keep him hydrated. All administered with tortoise patience…
He has started to fully retract his head again when he goes to sleep and is gradually becoming more lively. Lifting his entire shell to walk still proves too much of a task. Let’s hope he regains his strength soon🤞🏽
A Call For Help 🐾
This is Lara (as in Croft), puppy from the street. She was attacked by a larger dog and couldn’t walk anymore due to neurological damage.
With the right therapy, I expect she will be able to walk and run again, for her to enjoy a life at her new home. She is still in need of a forever home, or else she has to go back to the streets and she certainly won’t survive.
Please share this post & contact us if you can help this sweet soul.
