UPDATED PUBLIC WARNING:
Brutal Attacks Continue, Fi****ms Used to Kill Dogs on Private Property

Guam, September 28, 2018 - This morning Guam Animals In Need (GAIN) issued a public warning about a series of violent attacks on dogs in Yigo.

Following the announcement, another dog was found dead in the same Yigo neighborhood. [Photo attached]

At noon today, Dr. Thomas Poole, Guam Territorial Veterinarian, completed autopsies on both Pugua (the pet dog killed yesterday) and the new dog found dead today. Both dogs have bullet wounds.

Dr. Poole states that Pugua likely died from “a large caliber bullet probably from a handgun 9mm or larger.” Due to the nature of the bullet wound and where he was hit, Dr. Poole states that Pugua died instantly and did not travel any distance. He further stated that the dog found today died from a small-caliber bullet, likely a 22 caliber.

Pugua was found dead in a carport, nearest the family entrance. Four dogs have now been shot in the same Yigo neighborhood, three of whom have died.

“This is a terrifying, ongoing threat,” said GAIN Board President, Cyrus Luhr. “Animal abusers don’t stop at just animals. Someone is roaming this Yigo neighborhood with a gun, going onto private property, and killing at will. Please be safe, keep an eye out, and report all suspicious activity to the authorities.”

Information is being sought on a person of interest who recently made threats against Pugua and other neighborhood dogs. He is described as a larger (6’, 200-230 lbs) Chamorro man with tattoos and short black hair, last seen Wednesday between 4-5 pm in Yigo (near the Mayor’s Office) pushing a stroller alongside a pregnant Chamorro woman (5’5”, 150 lbs) with long black hair, and two children under the age of 3.

Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to contact the Guam Police Department, or Guam Crime Stoppers by visiting guam.crimestoppersweb.com, calling 477-HELP (4357), or texting 486-HELP (4357).

We're evacuating the shelter, both cats and dogs, starting 10am today (Sunday) and continuing into Monday.

Please contact us at least 30-60min before arriving, so we can be ready for you. 653-4246 or direct message through facebook (the phone will be busy a lot, so facebook is the easier way to contact us). It'll be crowded, so we're trying to schedule pick-ups to help with the flow of people.

Please bring a photo ID. And if you can, also bring a leash or plastic kennel.

You'll need to provide the pet(s) with a safe home during the storm. Once it's over, keep an eye on facebook for an announcement on when to return the pet. It will likely be anytime Thursday onward.
