[Preventing dog poisoning]
Recently, there have been a series of dog poisoning incidents. We share the sorrow and outrage felt by many, and we urge everyone to be extra careful!
Dog owners, apart from avoiding areas with a history of poisonings, please pay attention to the following guidelines to prevent incidents of dog poisoning:
1. Leash your dog and watch them at all times when going out;
2. Keep your dog close to you when walking, and stop them from eating anything on the ground;
3. Keep an eye out for warning signs – either that rat bait have been used or that a poisoner is known to be operating in the area. The SPCA Inspectorate has placed warnings regarding malicious poisonings in known trouble spots;
4. Always take your mobile phone and some cash with you – you never know when you might need to jump into a taxi and rush to a veterinary clinic; and
5. Observe your dogs closely after walks, as it is possible for dogs to absorb poisons via licking their paws many hours later
Should you suspect that your dog has been poisoned, promptly take them to the nearest veterinary clinic for treatment.
If you come across any instances of poisoning, toxic substances, or suspicious activities, please contact the SPCA 24-hour Animal Rescue Hotline at 2711 1000 without delay. Refrain from handling suspected toxic substances independently; instead, notify police immediately!
