Scrummy is a 9-year-old Bichon we rescued from a breeding mill last November. Upon initial check-up, he was diagnosed with heartworm and tick fever - this is very common for breeder rescues as breeders won’t provide basic care such as parasite prevention to the dogs.

Scrummy received treatment for parasites but the blood test shown no improvement. He was still anaemic and needed to be hospitalised.

After multiple treatments and check-ups, Scrummy finally became stable. The vet believed Scrummy’s condition is likely immune-mediated, meaning that he will need long term medication and regular rechecks.

We don’t know if it is congenital, or if it is the consequence of long-term neglect by the breeder. Apart from that, he is eating well, sleeping well and pooping well. He is just a friendly little goofball who loves snuggling up with his foster parents and dogs.

We know Scrummy isn’t a young, healthy dog that most people are looking for, but he had been suffering in a puppy mill for half of his life and he definitely deserves a loving home.

(Eng below) 有時我地會收到D因為行為問題而被棄養嘅狗狗，唔少人會覺得佢地冇咗屋企好慘，但對佢地嚟講反而係狗生最開心自在嘅時候

From time to time, we take in dogs that are surrendered due to behavioural issues. Some may think that it’s awful for them to lose their homes, but in fact it might be the most relaxed moment in their lives as they finally receive the care and guidance they need.

They learnt to regulate their behaviours and are no longer distressed and confused. They regained their trust in humans and are ready to find a new home.

Canele is one of them. He has made tremendous progress and is all set to graduate from our dog shelter. Can you give him a chance and accompany him through this new chapter of life?

(eng below) 柴柴Asahi同四隻貓貓來自繁殖場，負責人話第二日要離港，如果唔即刻接走佢地就會斷水斷糧😖喺領養中心爆滿嘅情況下，好彩有暫託及時伸出援手，先可以救到佢地出嚟🙏🏻Asahi對人友善熱情，而且識得定點去廁所，快啲帶佢返屋企啦！

We rescued Shiba Asahi and 4 other cats from a breeder as the person in charge was leaving HK and if we didn’t take them in immediately, they wouldn’t be given food and water for the next few days😖Big thanks to our dedicated foster carers who took them in without hesitation while our shelters are at full capacity🙏🏻Asahi is very friendly to people and loves cuddles. She’s potty-trained and is ready for a new home.

(eng below)我地又接收咗兩隻因為繁殖場執笠而無地方去嘅母子，送嚟之前已經講到明隻仔係準備賣所以健康OK，阿媽就好多蝨。帶兩隻狗狗到診所檢查後更發現媽媽有心絲蟲(已接受治療)——呢個係唔少寵物店嘅寫照，先唔講買返嚟嘅動物好多都有病，就算BB健康都唔等於個breeder係好‼️因為佢地依然會剝削用嚟配種嘅貓狗，唔會提供任何基本醫療😡兩隻狗狗性格友善親人，已經準備好尋家，請支持 #領養不購買 #沒有買賣沒有傷害 🫵🏻

We’ve took in another 2 poodles from a breeding mill as it’s shutting down. We were told that the puppy is healthy as it’s supposed to be sold, while the mom has many fleas. When we brought them to the vet, we even found out the mom has heartworm (no worries she’s started her treatment). This is the reality of breeders and pet shops - 𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚’𝒓𝒆 “𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍” as they’re still exploiting the breeding dogs and cats, providing 0 basic care. The family is now ready for a new home. They’re very sweet to people despite their awful past.

(eng below)我地接收咗5隻繁殖場狗狗，其中一隻竟然係有主人嘅失狗🤬
𝐖𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐞𝐝 𝟓 𝐝𝐨𝐠𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐠.

正當我地帶狗狗到診所檢查時，竟然發現其中一隻有晶片（雖然嚴格上嚟講每隻狗都應該有晶片，不過無良繁殖就預咗百無⋯⋯）輾轉聯絡到晶片登記人，原來佢之前走失咗狗狗，唔好彩畀繁殖場執到捉咗返去配種🤷🏻，所以一直搵唔返，依家已經順利返到主人身邊

我地盡咗能力去幫貓狗了，但你有繼續買寵物嗎？局方又有冇盡自己責任規管繁殖商？如果唔從源頭解決，我地救幾多貓狗都無用。要大家都一齊做好自己本分，我地先可以改變到社會整體嘅動物福利。 #領養不購買

其餘4隻狗狗正在暫託家庭等家中，均可以和其他狗狗友好相處：

When we brought them to the vet for check-up, one of them was found with a microchip. (Legally, all dogs should be microchipped before 5 months old, but most breeders don’t care.) We contacted the registered owner and found out that poor little guy was a lost dog. He must be caught by the breeder and locked up for mating. No wonder why the owner couldn’t find him. He has now safely returned to his owner.

早前我地收到漁護署電話通知，一個女人將隻上咗年紀嘅poodle帶到漁護署棄養，因為佢一星期後就要移民。12年來，Adore一直忠心地陪伴呢個家庭，換來嘅只係主人嘅無情，明知一隻老狗在漁護署嘅下場只得一個。我地好好彩有機會幫到Adore，令佢唔使被安樂死，依家Adore正在暫託家中

Last month, we received a call from the AFCD saying that a lady is there to surrender her senior poodle as the family is going to immigrate in a week. Adore has been a loyal companion to the family for 12 years, and his owner decided to dump him at the government kennels, clearly knowing what fate awaits Adore. We got the chance to step in and rescue Adore from being put to sleep. Adore is now with a loving foster carer.

義工留意到Yanis對外界反應比較慢，原來係因為佢聽唔到嘢🥹不過依然無阻佢做一隻親人嘅小狗，會走過嚟要人摸，只要動作慢D、唔好嚇親佢就得啦～佢對平靜嘅狗狗亦好友善，性格隨和冷靜唔會搞破壞💯

p.s. Yanis之前有輕微seizure，就醫食藥後已受控，長遠需要繼續食藥穩定情況～

Volunteers were aware that Yanis seems unresponsive sometimes and turns out it’s because he can’t hear us🥹But it doesn’t stop him from being an affectionate doggie. He’ll still come to people for cuddles as long as you approach him slowly. He’s also good with calm dogs and most of the time he’s just a calm couch potato who’d rather chill in his bed than destroying toys and furnitures💯

p.s. Yanis had a few episodes of focal seizure before and things are under control now. He will need medication in the long run though.

Aya的故事：
我們從繁殖場拯救了Aya，發現她一直跛行，X光顯示她的右腳大腿骨骨折，而且獸醫推斷已經超過6星期，即繁殖場任由Aya斷腳6星期都沒有處理傷勢。手術會將Aya癒合不良的大腿骨重新切斷，再用骨釘固定。

LAP沒有任何政府或大型資助，亦是全義工運作，沒有任何受薪員工，所有捐款都會直接用於毛孩身上。我們是註冊慈善機構，捐款$100或以上可以聯絡我們索取退稅收據～Aya的暫託為她創建了一個籌款網站，希望大家可以支援一下Aya的手術費用🙏

We rescued Aya from a breeding mill. Her right leg limps and she’s clearly in pain. X-ray revealed she has a fractured shaft for more than 6 weeks, which means the breeder left her with a broken leg untreated for more than a month. Kasie is a veteran resident in our shelter. He has been staying with us since being rescued from the AFCD at 6 months old.

We still want to believe that he’s gonna find a home one day, but we also understand not everyone will consider an adult mongrel who’s not very comfortable with new people and dogs.

Yet if you try to spend some time and bond with him, he’s the sweetest dog you’ll ever meet. He will welcome you with a wagging tail, roll on his back and ask for belly rubs. If he hasn’t have enough cuddles, he will gently put his paw on your arms and ask for more🥹

He is also potty-trained, walks well on a leash, understands basic commands and is calm and not destructive.

小哥基Reverie同好多狗狗一樣，都係嚟自公屋棄養個案。因為被鄰居舉報，Reverie唔可以再留低，而前主人喺「陪伴自己9年嘅狗狗」同「價格相宜嘅房屋」之間

——選擇咗後者。

Reverie嚟到LAP嘅時候皮膚狀況好差，只能長期戴頭罩，不過經過多次睇獸醫同覆診，找到適合佢嘅治療方案，現在已經改善咗好多。

Reverie係一個好親人、冇咩脾氣嘅小朋友，會主動走過嚟要人摸摸，日常護理亦好配合，識得定點如廁，而且鍾意外出散步，完全唔似9歲，不過同其他動物共處會有壓力，較適合無寵物家庭。

Little Corgi Reverie, like many other doggies, came from public housing cases. She was reported by a neighbour and could no longer stay in the housing. Her owner chose “a more affordable housing” over “a dog that had accompanied her for 9 years”.

When Reverie just came to us, she had skin issues and had to wear the cone of shame 24/7. Yet after multiple vet visits, we’ve found her an optimal plan and her skin responds well and improves a lot.

Reverie is a very friendly, gentle doggie who will come to you for cuddles and is so cooperative with daily care. She’s potty-trained and enjoys walkies more than most 9-year-olds do. She can be stressed around other animals so a family with no pets will be more suitable for her.

(eng below)棄養仲要講大話☺️我真係恭喜你呀

一個月前我地收到求助，有人想棄養一隻3歲嘅拉布拉多Zvan，因為自己經常外遊，而屋企只得一個老人家，照顧唔到Zvan（3年前個老人家就唔老☺️？照顧唔到點解要養？）

一開始主人講到Zvan親人親狗唔咬人，但棄養時就幫佢戴曬口罩
義工：點解戴住口罩？
主人：佢會緊張
義工：咁即係佢會咬？
主人：唔會
義工：唔咬做咩戴口罩？
然後個主人就淨係識得重複「驚隻狗緊張」（狗戴咗口罩就唔會緊張？你個咩口罩咁勁呀☺️）

我地都一再詢問Zvan會唔會咬人，主人嘅答覆係「唔會」

結果主人離開後，義工接觸Zvan，佢已經係咁吠同嘗試咬人

暫託家庭知道呢個情況後，仍願意放手一搏試下幫Zvan，可惜最後都係handle唔到，需要將Zvan送回狗場

對我地嚟講，不論品種、性格、背景，每一隻狗都值得愛，但要幫一隻有行為問題嘅狗狗出領養，當中係需要花好多心機同時間

而作為一個no-kill shelter，我地亦要準備好如果狗狗出唔到領養，我地係要照顧佢餘生，狗場就少咗一個位幫多一隻狗

我地要衡量有冇足夠資源先可以接收呢類個案，而唔係被棄養人呃呃氹氹幫佢單蘇州屎埋單☺️

義工會盡力教返好Zvan，希望之後會搵到適合佢嘅新家

About a month ago, we received message asking us to take in a 3-year-old Labrador, Zvan, as the owner is often travelling and the senior at home is too old to handle the dog (which you should have anticipated 3 years ago☺️)

When we talked on the phone, the owner said Zvan is friendly to people and dogs with no bite history. Yet when he surrendered Zvan at our dog shelter, Zvan was muzzled.

Volunteer: Why is Zvan muzzled?
Owner: He can get nervous
Volunteer: Do you mean he will bite?
Owner: No
Volunteer: If he doesn’t bite, why did you muzzle him?

And the owner kept repeating “I’m afraid he gets nervous.” We wonder what kind of magical muzzle the owner has that can stop a nervous dog from being nervous☺️

We did ask the owner a few more times if Zvan bites, and the answer is “no”. Yet as we approached Zvan afterwards, he barked and tried to bite.

The foster family was aware of the issue but still wanted to give it a go and help Zvan. Unfortunately it didn’t work out and Zvan will be sent back to shelter later.

To us, every dog deserves love regardless of breed, personality and background. But it does take more effort and time to rehome a dog with behavioural concerns.

As a no-kill shelter, we need to be prepared to keep the dog for good if it can’t be rehomed. This means we lost one kennel space to help one more dog. We need to access our resources very carefully before working on cases like this, rather than being tricked to do more than what we can handle.

Our volunteers will help rehabilitating Zvan and hopefully find him a suitable home.
