How to properly correct your dog’s mistakes

Dogs have the intelligence of a 2 year old, they don’t understand emotions like we do. Hence, it is important that you correct their mistake like how you would to a 2 year old:
1. Giving them mild shock by gently tap on their nose or head to convey disapproval.
2. Immediately correct their behavior instead of later.
3. Using toy to show potential consequences for demonstration to avoid misunderstanding.
4. Using a stern voice instead of screaming to let them know without causing fear or distress.

Various meanings of eye contact with dogs

Here’s a few reasons why your dogs make eye contact with you:
1. Expressing emotions that range from affection to aggression.
2. Getting your attention or food.
3. Waiting for cues when they are about to do tricks.
4. Investigate surroundings as they may stare when they want to know what’s going on or when meeting someone new
5. Learned behavior that eye contact is a form of human communication.
6. Some breeds (i.e. pug) often make more eye contact with humans.

Eye contact is beneficial for us as well to help dogs maintain self-control in stressful situations as you can teach them to make one with you when you lead them past a trigger.
