Today we share heartbreaking news about our very special Skitters 💔.
Skitters arrived THREE years ago, after his carers were able to leave Bali after a long Covid capture. They had called him Kitty, and it was obvious he was very much loved.
Two weeks after they had left him with us, they contacted us and asked if he had bitten or scratched anyone? YES! Was my immediate reply! YES, ALL of us. But as it turned out, by a technique I employed, grabbing him under his tummy and quickly holding him tightly to my shoulder, I never had any issue with his swift paws, claws extended.
Skitters was unpredictable, but he wasn’t malicious. Skitters had a neurological disorder, diagnosed by a cat vet specialist from Australia.
Skitters lived well and was healthy for two years until he contracted cat flu. Due to his condition, we were unable to nebulize him and put him on oral medication, which worked well. However, months later he showed symptoms of FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), and our vets started him on the Molnupiravir program, and again he rallied.
Sadly two months ago, Skitters again showed signs of ill health and he was again put on the Molnupiravir program. As my home is next door to the Special Needs area, there was never a night I did not spend some time with Skitters. It became a ritual.
The second lot of Molnupiravir was not having any effect on Skitter's health. His body was ravaged by this miserable disease and he was dying. All the staff knew he was my special one of the Special Needs. They were looking to me to make the call.
On Saturday afternoon, I called our vets still on duty to confirm this was the correct decision and to allow him peace from his suffering.
At 17.35 Saturday 28 June Skitters suffered no more. We will miss this boy dreadfully. Thank you to all those who sponsored him and helped us give him the care and love he deserved.
In Memory of Skitters, acknowledging our fight to care for the feline citizens of Bali 💚.
