Hello everyone,

My name is Ashley Rogers and I am an Animal Behaviour Specialist and Trainer. I have a BSc (Hons) Applied Animal Behaviour and Training and a MSc in Animal Behaviour and Welfare. I am based in Ireland and work all over the country.
Today I am giving back and raising funds in aid of Husky Rescue Ireland and every donation will help. Today I am travelling to Husky Rescue Ireland to profile some long term dogs for the team. We will be sharing some progress that we make with the dogs on site and discuss suitable homes for the dogs that are on site. This is a voluntary service day that I try and participate in to help the rescues in my country.

I will also be providing a live seminar day for people who have dogs of any age and breed to provide them with the knowledge and skills when integrating a dog into their home, rescue or not. The do’s and the dont’s of dog training and how to read your dogs behaviour. Appropriate socialising and basic training tips.

No matter how little, anything is a help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much and to me.

🔥Post Operation Behavioral Plan🔥

This is a lovely tip from our Behaviour Specialist Ashley Rogers

If you have an animal that needs to recover after surgery and are required to be restricted in their movement whether that be involving respite or to be confined in one room. Here are some things that you can do to help stimulate your dog’s mind and get some well needed metal exercise which will compensate their physical demands such as walking, going to day care, playing with toys etc.

Food Delivery

Promote scatter feeding to increase the time they spend eating, this will stimulate their mind far longer compared to eating straight out of a bowl.
Use some natural yoghurt and their normal kibble, freeze it and deliver it to them frozen. This will keep them occupied and keep them entertained while they recover.

Environmental Stimulation

When you are taking them to the toilet while they recover, its important that you restrict their movement, however, in an area with grass and trees you can allow them to take in smells within the environment which entertain them as much as their routine walk would.
If you are around other dogs or in a position to leave clothes or blankets with other dogs you can use those to stimulate the dogs senses as it would if it were collected information on a normal walk.

As Holloween is approaching, there is nothing worse knowing that your dog cannot cope and will be so fearful on the day.

Some dogs are so noise phobic they require additional medical support to help them, however this doesn’t fix the problem. Your dog may require medicinal support but they also need a desensitisation and counter conditioning plan.

Here are also a number of things that you can do to make your dog comfortable.
- Crates: as dogs are den animals providing a crate is a fantastic was of making them feel comfortable. Cover the crate with lots of duvets.

-Mental stimulation: early that day take your dog on a stimulation walk, allow them to sniff the long grass, take them to a new place.

-Feeding: early that day feed them differently. Freeze their food, or provide them with frozen natural yoghurt or implements scattered feeding in your back garden.
