Lacy recently attended the clinic for a puppy health check and vaccinations. 🥰

Puppies should receive their first set of vaccinations from 8 weeks old and their second set at 12 weeks old.

A yearly booster is required thereafter. These vaccinations help protect against a range of diseases including canine distemper, parvovirus and leptospirosis.

It is also recommended for puppies and dogs to receive the canine cough vaccination. Canine cough is highly contagious and spreads easily through airborne/droplet infection anywhere that dogs are in close proximity to each other (across garden fences, in parks, boarding kennels, vet's waiting rooms)

Lovely Milo enjoying a snooze after his neutering procedure in our Rathdrum branch 🐾

Neutering is not a 'one size fits all' decision.

There are health benefits associated with neutering but each dog is an individual. When we advise to neuter depends on many factors including:

✅ Breed
✅ Age
✅ Size
✅ Stage of physical development
✅ Stage of emotional development
✅ Training and any behavioural challenges
✅ Lifestyle
✅ Homelife, including other dogs in the home 🐾

☎️ If you are unsure of what age etc you should have your dog neutered please phone us for advice. 🐾

⚠️ Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1 has recently been confirmed in a wild buzzard in Co. Dublin.

⚠️ Do not pick up or touch sick or dead wild birds, and keep your pets away from them.

⚠️ We urge all poultry keepers to be vigilant for signs of bird flu and ensure their premises are biosecure.

As temperatures drop, it’s time to make
sure your pup stays snug and safe! 🥶
Here are a few simple tips:
🐾 Invest in a cosy, well-fitting coat to
help them stay warm.
🐾 Check their paws for ice, snow, or salt
and consider protective boots for extra
protection for sensitive paws.
🐾 Create warm indoor spots for them to
relax (don’t be offended if they opt for the
floor!)

Cold weather calls for extra snuggles and care! 🐾❄️

Here are some tips to make sure your feline friend stays warm and comfortable this season:

✨ Provide draft-free sleeping spots with blankets or a heated pet bed for extra warmth (though they might still choose their own favourite spot!)
✨ Keep them indoors on chilly days (if they’re happy to stay in)
✨ Check their water bowl regularly to make sure it’s not frozen.

Protect Your Pets This New Year. 🐾
Fireworks may light up the sky, but they can be overwhelming for our furry friends. Here are a few tips to help keep them calm and safe:
Create a quiet, comfortable space indoors
where they feel secure.
Drown out loud bangs with soothing music or white noise.
Walk dogs earlier in the day to avoid peak
fireworks time.
Keep windows and curtains closed to reduce noise and flashing lights.

Let’s ring in the New Year with happy, relaxed pets by our side! 🐾
