🐷 PERFECT PIGGIES 🐷

These gorgeous little piglets arrived in earlier in the week from Newbarn Farm - based in Ashbourne, Co. Meath, for a check up and to be castrated 🐖

As you can see, some of our vets (Alison, Jack, Carol, Conor) and vet nurses (Laura, Elise, Cara, Tiegan) couldn’t get enough of them! 🌸

Castration of piglets isn’t a common practise in Ireland but when it is carried out, it’s to be done within 7 days of age 🐽

This lot definitely brightened up our day!!

😹 PRICELESS PABLO 😹

This little rascal has a story to tell..

A gentleman named Pablo arrived into our Lusk clinic with this little lady who he had (involuntarily) fostered for a week. She strolled into his back garden and, after being treated like royalty by Pablo, it was decided to bring her in to check for a microchip 🐈

Pablo had no problem holding onto this cat as she was as good as gold but sure enough, our microchip reader beeped. After looking her number up on the system, it came to light that this cat’s name was also PABLO! 😹 It was meant to be…

We gave feline Pablo’s owner a ring and to our surprise, she had been missing from County Leitrim since November!! Her owner was over the moon to find out Pablo had finally been found and could be returned home 🏡

The two Pablos will always have a special place in their hearts for one another ❤️

🐮HAPPY HIGHLANDS🐮

This gorgeous Highland calf was born last week and we can’t get enough of them both!

The Highland cattle breed originated from Scotland and is distinguishable by their shaggy coat and long horns

The dun Highland is associated with mainland Scotland, while the black, smaller Highland is linked to the Scottish islands

Make sure to keep an eye out for this beautiful cattle breed, they’re hard to miss and impossible to forget! 🧡

🐄 TERRIFIC TWINS 🐄

These two gorgeous ladies were born last week, much to the delight of a very happy farmer. These are two non-identical, Friesian heifer calves, born as a result of twin ovulations.

In ruminants, especially cattle, when opposite s*xed twins are born (a bull calf and a heifer calf), 90% of the time the heifer calf is infertile with non-functioning ovaries. This is known as a ‘freemartin’. It occurs due to the exposure of the heifer calf to the male hormones of the bull calf due to a common circulation.

This is what was behind the sigh of relief from this farmer when finding out the s*x of these two lovely ladies 🐮
Cow and calves are all thriving since!
