Paw-litics:

King Tut, a Belgian Shepherd is credited with helping Herbert Hoover get elected as the 31st American president! Hoover was characterized as an uncharismatic individual who lacked the sort of personal savvy that helps politicians win. However his photo was taken with him holding King Tut which changed everything! The New York Times called it " One of the happiest pictures ever " of Herbert Hoover and it helped to boost his more personal side to the public! 🐾

Hot dogs:

When the sun is out its important that our four legged friends have a source of water to stay hydrated and cool down! With their heavy coats they need a place in the shade to lie! We can take off our coats to cool down, but your dog cant! 🐾

Puppy play:

Puppies love playing with toys, this gives them mental and physical stimulation! It is important that they do not have too many toys at one time. We should limit it to two and rotate the toys every few days. 🐾

Let sleeping dog's lie:

Although puppies are little bundles of energy, they usually sleep 18-20 hours a day. Sleep helps them cope during their growth spurts! So its important we don't disturb their sleep! 🐾

In just the space of just three short months Ollie has grown so big! We will continue to follow Ollie on his journey to becoming a well trained puppy - dog! 🐾

A groomed puppy is a happy puppy:

Brushing your dog ventilates their coat, helping it grow healthy and strong and takes away old damaged hair! Grooming also ensures that your dog's skin can breath and keeps down the level of grease in their coat. Too much grease can block pores and cause irritation and all sorts of skin problems! 🐾

“ Bee “ kind:

One third of our bee species are threatened with extinction in Ireland. This is because we have drastically reduced the amount of food ( flowers ) and safe nesting sites in our landscapes! Ollie and Zero are big supporters of the All Ireland Pollinator Plan which is trying to create an Ireland where pollinators can survive and thrive! 🐾

" Inside every Labrador, is a Retriever "

Labradors love to carry things around in their mouths. This is partly because they are natural retrievers, but also partly because they soon learn that picking up your stuff gets them a whole load of attention! On Zero's walk today he investigated into a bush and emerged with a wooden post! Delighted with his findings he wanted to show off his prize to everyone! 🐾

Introducing Zero:

Zero is a one year old Labrador who loves nothing more than playing fetch, going for walks, exploring and chicken! Zero recently joined The Big Woof to get leash training and weekly walks! We will be putting up regular updates of Zero on his adventures! 🐾

Some days are simply meant for playing:

Regular play is crucial to a dogs happiness and well being! Playing with other dogs can be an important part of achieving that well being! Dogs have emotional intelligence, and learn signals from other dogs early on if there properly socialized with others of their kind! Ollie had a great time today playing and learning with his new friend Lulu, an 8 year old Retriever! 🐾

Top of the class:

Border Collies originate from Scotland and are used for herding livestock! Their intelligence, enthusiasm and willingness to work has seen them awarded the top spot in the canine psychologist Stanley Coren's intelligence rankings! Amazingly, most Border Collies can learn a brand new command in under five seconds and follow it 95% of the time! 🐾

Plain and simple:

Dogs can eat plain white rice after its been cooked. A serving of plain white rice with some boiled chicken can sometimes make your dog feel better when they are having stomach problems! 🐾

Oh, kale yeah:

Leafy vegetables that are darkly coloured like spinach and kale, are rich in phytonutrients, which gives them antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities! They are also high in calcium, iron, potassium, vitamin A, C, K and contain lots of fiber! Studies have also shown that they can reduce the risk of developing cancer! 🐾
