How much are our Pets capable of understanding? How much are they capable of teaching us?
Actually Dogs, Cats and Parrots understand far more words in our Human language (especially if they live in close proximity to us and are permitted to constantly see and hear us interact with other Humans) than we give them credit for ~
I have not , until recently, tested my Dog for "yes" and "No" responses ~ I had read many different articles written about Dogs only understanding learned cues and performing learned behaviors to those cue words, and also about the fact that "no" was not a behavior and so was not a learned cue, therefore the Dog did not understand what "no" meant etc etc and all this is reasonable to assume if the Dog has not grasped the concept or the meaning of the word "no"
I was intrigued to find out if my Dog actually responded to the word "no" in either a whispered tone or spoken in a firmer and louder tone, so I tried the word, "no", both ways, using the whisper first, lest the louder tone might end up teaching him the cue in a fearful manner which I did not want to do~ I set up an enviornment that had a number of items that would interest him such as toys and treats and sniffy items from our walks ~ he had never been taught a cue for "Yes" or "No" (he had instead been taught the cue "leave it", so he would not have been accustomed to hearing me say "no" directly to him, though I use both "yes" and "no" in daily conversation with other Humans as most people do ~
I did not use the cue, "leave it", at all during my test, and my Dog displayed to me in several tests (of whispers first, followed by louder toned intonation) of the words "Yes" and "No" that he clearly understood both "yes" and "no" in reference to what I indicated he could touch or not touch among the items that I had arranged on the floor, for the purpose of this test.
Later, my Dog, demonstrated to me that he understood the meaning of "yes" and "no" in the context of indicating wha
Happy Yuletide, Happy Hannukah, Happy Winter Solstice, Happy Holidays one and all.

Some Breakfast foraging fun for the Parrots in our lives, to make their Halloween a fun time and extra special too.
Pumkins are very good for Parrots, plus, by puncturing holes into the pumkin you can stuff all kinds of treats into the flesh of the pumkin for them to find and enjoy as they forage.
You can also create artifical branches by adding chopsticks and hanging kale leaves on them, you could also hang fruit on them ~ why not try it using organic pumkin, fruit and veggies and make this an extra special Happy Halloween for you and your Parrot ♡
Remember to have a safe quiet space for your Parrot this Halloween.
I recommend that you move the Parrot's carry cage or their sleeping cage into a room that you have soundproofed, made safe, and fitted with black out curtains for the occasion.
Try introducing your Parrot to this space each day for a short period prior to the commencement of the festivities so that they are familiar with the space and at ease in it.
Also, make sure that you have a comfortable chair in the room and a bed, because your Parrot needs you there with him when the fireworks begin to go off.
Music, Jazz or classical, depending on your Parrots favorite genre, will help pass the time and also add an air of calmness to the scene.
Also make sure to have lots of Parrot treats and beverages like water or herbal tea, and also some human snacks and beverages for you~ then sit back and enjoy the party in the company of your Parrot enjoying a safe, peaceful and Happy Halloween 🎃

How many times have you said that you wanted the perfectly healthy, perfectly trained Dog?
I guess maybe we have all said it at one time or another.
You look at your Puppy you see a whole future for you both where life is full of achievements and proud moments~ then life throws a curve ball😜
The perfect puppy turns into a Dog who has "flaws" he chases the birds in the park and while you watch everyone else's Dog return on cue, your Dog just ignores you. Red-faced you chase after him like a crazy person unable to catch him, because your Dog, by now, enjoying the game eludes your grasp at every turn.
Perhaps he eyes other Dogs and shoulders up for a playful brawl when you would rather he didn't, or perhaps he is fearful and his response is one that mortifies you because he always chooses to fight first and ask questions later to such an extent that your perfect Dog, to your shame, has become known as the local trouble maker. Yours is the Dog that makes passers by say , "he should be muzzled" or "put that Dog on a tighter leash he's dangerous"
Perhaps your Dog is a bike and car chaser?
Or maybe he stops to sniff at every rose bush you pass and you are left with no option but to wait and perhaps miss or be late for that important appointment you wanted to keep.
The fact is, that the way we rush about doing our very important human business, more often than not, fails to take our Dog's business into consideration, and very often we begin to view our Dog's actions and reactions through our own stress filled fast moving view of our Human world.
We categorize and label what we do not understand. We fail to see the genius that is our Dog or understand what it is like to view the world from his point of view.
We need to get off this merry go round and stop blaming the Dog for all the things that we fail to understand about a Dog's world and his view of life.
Once we begin to understand the world from our Dog's point of view, we begin to manage and neg
The Responsibilities of taming a Pet Partner Parrot are Ginormous!
This video stars Hailey a 1 year old male Cockatiel.
Hailey picked his own name because he liked the sound of it.
Although I have tamed, befriended and trained many Parrots from Budgies to Kakariki to Parrotlet, Conures, Amazon's to do many things, I have to say that the Parrot that is the most docile and loveable of all is the Cockatiel.🥰

Happy International Dog's Day 😀
Your question:
My dog is not listening to me. How do I make my dog listen to me?
My initial response is to answer with another question:
Are you listening to your dog?
Why do I reply with such a question?
Well the reason is simple, it is because very often it is not the dog who is not attentive, rather it is we who are not being attentive to what our dog may be trying to communicate to us.
Training is a two way street in communication with the dog, it is not (as some trainers have in the past tried to do) a way for us to impose our will upon the dog.
Indeed, a dog trained to forcefully respond to our will on command and ignore everything else would not make a very good Service Dog.
Here is an example so that I can demonstrate what I mean. The handler of a mobility dog has been suddenly blinded by an eye injury or a severe migraine and is trying to cross the road with his dog.
He commands the dog to go forward, the dog seeing the continual flow of fast moving traffic refuses to move ~ the owner gets frustrated and repeats the command more forcibly the dog refuses to budge, this is a very basic and simple example of an intelligent disobedience, an intelligent disobedience where the dog asseses the situation and performs the action that is most beneficial to the health, wellbeing and safety of his handler.
If the dog had been forcibly trained to be blindly obedient to his handler without being encouraged to think outside of the box and grow in the ability to think and make good choices, it is less likely that the dog would have the mental capacity to perform an intelligent disobedience which could potentially save his Handlers life.
Training is a two way street in communication and learning that grows over time with your dog. It is not "sit, heel, lie, fetch..." or to just perform tasks on cue. It is much more than this because you require your Service Dog to be intelligent enough and capable enough to make good decisions for you in moments when you may
This is a simple exercise that I developed for training an aviary bred or unhandled cockatiel.
This is a wonderful way of initiating contact between you and your cockatiel without stressing your cockatiel because the touch begins to happen in a very natural way for your cockatiel while encouraging his natural instinct to forage.
Please note, this exercise should not be attempted with cockatiels who have behavioral issues such as biting without giving any prior warning of the bite.
A Cockatiel who bites first without offering any warning signals will require some reconditioning and behavioral exercises prior to attempting this open circle exercise.
Cockatiels are not normally aggressive parrots by nature and they will usually give many warnings to you rather than bite, and they will only bite as a last resort when all else fails.
Of course if your cockatiel is frightened they can give a reactive bite. This is not agression it is simply self defense.
Always bear in mind that a lone cockatiel, no matter how independent you may think he or she is desires nothing more than to befried you.
Please, always remember to spend some quality time with your cockatiel and if you have a cockatiel sitting alone in a cage, perhaps its time to take that next step and begin to interact with him.
Happy Training ♡
