In the corner where the sunlight fades,
An old man sits, in memories bathed.
His chair is empty, the room is still,
And echoes fill the voids that will.
The dog lay once beside his feet,
A faithful friend, so kind and sweet.
Now silence reigns where joy once grew,
And he whispers, “All I had was you.”
The photo on the mantle shows
A time when laughter freely flowed.
The leash, the toys, now gathered dust,
In solitude, he’s lost in trust.
The park we’d walk, the paths we’d trace,
Are empty now, a hollow space.
He recalls the days when skies were blue,
And murmurs softly, “All I had was you.”
Through winter’s chill and summer’s blaze,
His heart holds fast to yesterdays.
Though the world moves on and life renews,
He sits in silence, “All I had was you.”
In dreams, his faithful friend appears,
With wagging tail, and joyful cheers.
Yet morning comes, the shadows strew,
And he sighs again, “All I had was you.”

I'm over half way through my course on pet grief and soon hopefully will become a certified pet grief counsellor .This is something I'm absolutely passionate about I'm a born empath and I needed to do this to to help me and my lovely families that loose their precious little family members going forward to heal💛

There are a number of things you can do to help you cope with the loss of your pet. You may find the following guidelines helpful, but remember, you’re the best person to decide what you need.

Accept the pain of this grief is normal and allow yourself time to feel sadness, anger, guilt or whatever it is you need to feel.
Try to share your emotions with someone who will understand – a friend, family member, other pet owners or veterinary staff.
You may wish to bury your pet’s body or scatter their cremated remains in a special place. Having a ritual or ceremony at this time can be a helpful way to mark how much your pet has meant to you.
Keep a memory box full of favourite toys and keepsakes. Record special memories; put photographs in a scrapbook, paint a picture, write a story or poem. You can also put a photo and story on a memorial website for animals.
It’s important to look after yourself when you’re grieving. Try to take regular exercise and eat well-balanced meals. Rest is important and if your sleep is disturbed try winding down with a warm, milky drink or soothing music. Set up new routines to replace those you had with your pet, for example, change the time and location of walks. Avoid making any big decisions and seek the company of supportive family and friends.
It’s up to each person or family to decide whether or not to get another pet. Some people choose to do this immediately, while others need time before they can make room in their hearts for a new relationship.
Sometimes grief can seriously affect your sleep, eating habits and ability to cope with life. If this is the case, you might benefit from professional counselling with someone who will understand and value the loving bond you had with your pet.

Reminder..Fireworks tonight in Bandon Town starting at 10.30pm .Please keeps dogs secure

12/07/2024

I'm going to keep this as short and on point as I can, long science based posts don't work from my experience.

Lift, wash and clean dog food bowl after every use ,do not leave food down all day long ,its fly and bluebottle season ,they will lay eggs in left over food that your pets will most probably consume if not removed.

Change and wash water bowls several times a day ,dogs have facial hair that harbours many different bacteria Ecoli ,salmonella and many more ,we don't want them getting sick or making us sick

Please keep bums and sanitary areas clean or any open sores eg hot spots, injuries disinfected and covered.,make sure your dogs are groomed regularly so we groomies can see any open injuries and alerts ye .Again we are in fly season and I certainly don't want maggots in my salon or on on your pet .

Love Kate ❤️

It's time to think about silent fireworks 💛

For some fireworks are no fun, and they are more than a nuisance disturbing their sleep; they are a potential source of trauma. There is a simple solution.

“Silent” fireworks can deliver the same cascading colors but without the daunting decibels and startling explosions that usually erupt in the night sky. While these silent fireworks are stunning, they lack the big explosive power that drives mega-displays high into the air for viewing by thousands. They are ideal for smaller events. The trade-off in scale is a welcome one for the many for whom these celebrations often bring with them trauma, fear, and even lingering effects of hearing loss.

It shouldn’t be hard to understand how fireworks’ loud, unpredictable bangs and whizzing explosions that cause such delight could also have negative effects on so many. Veterans with PTSD, children on the autism spectrum, survivors of gun violence, pets, and even wildlife and farm animals routinely suffer on from these loud flreworks several times a year .Yet there is an easy way to change that by lowering the impact of the loud, sudden, unpredictable, percussive noises that come with fireworks.

“Silent” fireworks aren’t a new invention. In fact, they have been around for a long time as part of regular fireworks displays, including the “comet display” that shoots into the air with a long sparking tail, or the “flying fish” whose scattering sparkles swim out from a silent boom like little tadpoles. These fireworks actually display the most stunning colors, more so than big explosions. The most explosive fireworks, the ones with the biggest booms, have little color because the force can shatter the pellets that carry the little “stars” that emit signature colors of green, red, and blue. Despite the name, these more colorful fireworks aren’t entirely silent, but they are significantly quieter, registering at far below the typical 150-170 decibels of the loud fireworks, which can cause hearing damage.

Children can also suffer. Some children on the autism spectrum can be overwhelmed by the huge noises and the unpredictable sounds of fireworks displays, and their parents are often advised by psychologists to buy noise-canceling headphones for such events. Their families have to carefully strategize how to navigate the celebrations if they go, or choose to stay home altogether, depriving other family members of a chance to participate in collective festivities.

And it is not only people who are harmed. Your dog’s hearing is many times more acute than yours. Dogs can hear up to 60,000hz while humans only hear 20,000hz. Fireworks, which arrive without warning, can trigger a startle response in dogs, generating acute anxiety and fear in a situation they can’t understand. Just like in people, the startle response causes racing hearts, a surge of adrenalin, and a need to flee. Rescues routinely report an influx of lost dogs after a fireworks display as terrified animals run for their lives.

Wildlife too can be terrified, such as the deer that race into the road to escape the sounds, resulting in more dangerous car collisions. Even birds are affected they fall dead from the sky after a fireworks celebration, possibly because the sounds disoriented them, causing them to fly into houses and trees.

With all of these human and animal populations negatively affected, it’s far past time to change our fireworks. Towns in Europe, Canada, and the U.K., are leading the way, with some, like Collecchio, Italy, even banning loud fireworks, and others choosing low-noise alternatives. In the U.S., Costa Mesa, California, has already switched the city-wide display to low-noise pyrotechnics. Although it used to be harder to find low-noise fireworks, now they are readily available to buy on same special licence needed to import ordinary fireworks.

It’s time to rethink our fireworks celebrations. Sure, we may have to forego some of the biggest booms but how we celebrate can also break new ground and create a new “real thing,” spectacular Technicolor pyrotechnics lighting up the night sky with greater consideration for children, pets, and wildlife. Now wouldn’t that be something to celebrate 💛

'Emanuele Grandi's moving poem dedicated to our four-legged companions:

“If you are afraid that you have given me too few caresses, you should know that I have not forgotten even one.

If you regret scolding me even once, know that I don't even remember it.

If you think you've left me alone for too long, know that I've always been waiting for you.

If you fear that you have dedicated little time to me, you should know that I, even of that little, have enjoyed every moment.

If you think you have played little with me, you should know that I have never counted the times you threw the ball to me.

If you think I have forgotten your perfume, you should know that even now I am smelling it on the wind.

If you would like to be reborn in another life, you should know that I would like to be your dog in that one too.

If you are convinced that you have some flaws, you should know that for me you have been the perfect person.

If you believe that love can have an end, you should know that in my heart the place of love is infinite.

If you think you have regrets about me, know that I wouldn't trade a single second of the life I've spent with you.

If you think I no longer hear your voice when you call me, just trust the evening breeze with the task of bringing me your words.

If you think I can forget your face, you should know that I wanted to live just to enjoy your look.

If you think I could have loved anyone more than you, know that I have loved you more than myself.

If you think I would like a sofa, know that with you I would have slept on the stones too.

If you think I wanted more than what you gave me, know that I have always felt like the happiest dog in the world

If you have ever felt alone, know that I have never left my place with you.

If you think my life has been short, you should know that I would not have wanted to live another minute if I had not spent it by your side.
If you fear that I am no longer close to you, know that as soon as you close your eyes I will fall asleep next to you.

If you think you haven't made the right decision, know that I have always trusted you.

Always.

If you dream one day of being able to see me again, know that I will be there waiting for you.

As I have always done.”
Always in my heart. ❤️

❌ RAPESEED! ❌

It’s coming up to that time of year again where farmers fields have blossomed into pretty yellow flowers, these plants are called rapeseed. Although it may be tempting to place your dog in the midst to take a scenic photo, please avoid this at all costs!

Rapeseed is extremely poisonous for dogs, especially in highly sensitive canines.

Rapeseed is listed by Dogs Trust as toxic to our dogs if ingested and can cause symptoms such as:

❌Haemolytic Anaemia
❌ Blindness
❌ Damaged Nervous System
❌ Digestive Disorders
❌ Breathing Problems

Even walking through these fields should be avoided! In May /June a dog was reported to be suffering from severe open wounds after running through a crop of rapeseed.

Please seek immediate veterinary attention if your dog shows any signs of rapeseed poisoning!
