After a fantastic Summer we have closed the gates for a well deserved holiday!! We also bid farewell to Petronella who is leaving us to return home, we wish her every good wish in the future!! We know she will do fab at anything she turns her hand to!!! 🤗🤗

Make Them Carry Their Saddle
A father of a darling girl and I were talking last week and he said that he wanted his daughter to ride more and not have to do the work part of the catching, grooming, and saddling. I smiled as I explained.
Riding horses is a combination of strength, timing, and balance. Kids in this country are physically weak (unless they are actively involved with weight training and physical conditioning 4+ times a week.)
When you walk out to the field, you are clearing your stress from being under fluorescent lights all day; feeling the sun soak into your bones. As your body moves on uneven surfaces, it strengthens your legs and core.
When you groom your horse (especially currying), you are toning your arms and stabilizing your core.
When you carry your saddle, your arms, chest, and back are doing isolated strengthening work.
Being near horses, calms and makes you tune into the splendor of these empathetic animals.
When you ride at a posting trot, it’s equivalent to a slow jog calorie burn wise.
After a lesson, the riders are physically tired and mentally quiet and balanced.
Horses feel your heart beat and mirror your emotions back.
Riding large and somewhat unpredictable animals makes you resilient and pushes your expectations.
Working with horses is so much more than learning how to ride.
So parents, make your children carry their saddles. Don’t do the hard parts for them, as long term it actually hurts them. To advance with their riding, they must get stronger. You can help by doing the high parts.
I love having you all at the farm, and am so grateful to get to share these fascinating animals with you.

We can't believe the last pony camp of the Summer was yesterday!!! The weeks have just flown by!!!! The Bridge beside Pipers Cottage to access the Slieve Bloom walking trails & bike trails from the Castle grounds will be closed for the next 2 weeks for much needed maintenance work.

What a day!!! What a brave pair!!! Huge well done to Roisin and Rachel and of course Prince and Clooney!! Roisin just finishing outside the top placings but my goodness what a gutsy performance from a 9 year old!!!! Watch out Rachel Blackmore, Roisin is coming to get you!!! Not to be outdone Rachel just managed to keep a nose ahead of the competition and finished a creditable 2nd in the over 16's race!!! It has been a pretty busy week with pony camps, treks and a sad farewell!! Flash and Junior left us on Friday to start a brand new life in America! Both have been a pleasure to produce since we sourced them from Darren Spain! We would like to wish their new owners the very best of luck with their new best friends! Today was a very unusual Saturday for one our our wonderful horses! Anthony received a very special invite to participate in a Baraat. For those of you who are curious (like us!!!) - A baraat is part of an Indian wedding and is a celebratory wedding procession for the groom, which involves live music and dancing and is basically how the groom arrives at the wedding venue - in this case the beautiful surroundings of Kinnitty Castle Hotel! It is a spectacular sight and certainly one which will be remembered here for many years!! There was lots of music and dancing which Anthony took in his stride and he was the ultimate professional model!!! 🥰🥰🥰 Check out the video below to get a taster of what a Baraat is all about!!! As delighted as we were with Magners' performance, Fred went one better and jumped a lovely double clear!!! And brought home his first rosette! A bright red one!! Our babies attended their first show today!! Magner had an unfortunate 4 faults in his 1st round but went Clear in the second!!! A brilliant performance for a young horse! Well done to Meabh Keating well!! Thanks to Clonlara Riding-Club for running a Young Horse competition and allowing them the opportunity to compete!!!
