Thankfully the weather changed last weekend and the first Eventing Ireland event was held in Crecora, County Limerick. Louise (Levi), Aoife (Oscar), Jane (Gio) and Ella (Miller) had a good day competing. Even Jane, "The Brennanstown Matriarch" managed to get a break in the sunny South East for 3 days.
In other interesting and a little belated news, Maggie gave birth to an unplanned litter of 10 lovely pups in the competition tack room, on the day that the BHS Stage 2 & 3 Teach training day was held.
They are now nearly 3 weeks old, growing fast, adorable, and they already have great homes to go to when the time comes. 🥰

Happy Easter everyone.

Busy times at Brennanstown over the Easter period. Daffodil Day, followed by the AIRE Association of Irish Riding Establishments AGM last Monday, Children's 3 Day Camp - Tuesday to Thursday, Easter weekend with extra rides/treks and next week, BHS The British Horse Society Assessments from Tuesday to Friday inclusive.

Sunday the 11th of February saw Brennanstown Riding School hosting the annual Colours Competition. The event was well supported with over 40 entries from University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin and The Royal College of Surgeons. We were blessed with the weather. Trinity took top place in the Dressage Individual and Dressage Teams, with UCD taking the top spot in Individual & Teams Showjumping and Prix Caprilli. A good day was had by all with a little bit of Hi Jinx to end off the day.

Hollybrook Riding Club held the second leg of their internal competition for the Club's Winter League trophies last Sunday. On offer was both dressage and jumping and competitors could choose to do one or both of these disciplines. An enjoyable morning was had by all despite the rather variable weather conditions.

Working off the Christmas dinner, we were very glad of dry weather and the spectacular scenery for our St Stephen's Day 2 hour ride.

Friday the 22nd of December saw the first of our Christmas Events when the annual Staff vs Livery owners competition took place. After an exciting top score jumping event, Aoife (Staff) and our veteran Yorkie emerged as the winners, followed closely by Delphi on Morgan.

The half term Halloween Camp was a fantastic 3 days of learning, games, and fun for all. Despite a few rain showers, the kids got stuck in and enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you to all the instructors and students who helped make the 3 days so enjoyable for everyone.

Lots happening over the past few weeks!!

Our Indoor School has a new look, having been refurbished and painted while the school was closed in September and is now a bright and fresh looking arena. A big ‘Thank You’ to Mike and his team from Leinster Farm Painters for all their hard work and efforts.

Term riding commenced on 30 September, unfortunately in rather atrocious weather conditions, although week 2 has made up for it, as we were basking in almost Summer temperatures. While Saturday classes are mostly full, there are still a few spaces available in the weekday 15.30 groups. Enquiries to [email protected].

Meanwhile, Hollybrook riding Club’s Annual Dressage League also started on 1 October and were much luckier with the weather which was sunny and dry for the entire day. The first two competitions were well supported and competitors were very complimentary about our new look.

We are approaching the end of a very busy Summer season which we hope everyone enjoyed, despite the rather changeable weather! We are planning to take a break in September following our British Horse Society's Exams scheduled for the first week in September, to give the horses and ponies a well deserved holiday. We are, therefore, intending to commence our Christmas term riding classes on Saturday 30 September, details of which will be circulated shortly

Some of our pony liveries made the journey to Mullingar last Saturday for the Irish Pony Society Championship Show and came home with good results. Alex with Richie secured a first and two second ribbons, while Sarah came first with Jaspar in a show class and also won a performance class with Lottie. Lily and Luna were third in their novice working hunter pony class.
We also wish good luck to Jane and Gio, Ella and Miller, Lily and Luna and Sarah and Jasper who take on the challenge of the Irish Pony Club's Eventing Championships this weekend in Tattersalls, and also to Louise (Levi) and Clodie (Rocky) who are competing in the International at Lisgarvan House this weekend.

The Hollybrook Riding Club had a great win on Sunday at the Riding Clubs National Dressage Championships in Barnadown when they triumphed in the Team Competition, having won the team qualifier for this region in Spruce Lodge in July. Coached by Louise, Margot Brama with Jerry, Delphi MacWhite and Mobi and Lisa Devine with Nick all rode consistent tests throughout the day to emerge as winners and recipients of the team trophy. Lisa also won her individual grade championship, while Delphi was third in hers and Margot fourth in a very hot and competitive Elementary grade. Our congratulations to them all.
