When you look after a cat with fractured pelvis but catch your own stealing their food its time to have words with the cat !
Have you ever wondered what cats actually see?
A cats retina (a layer of cells at the back of the eye that converts light into nerve impulse) is made up of rods and cones. In a cats retina, the majority of the cells are rods (almost three times of that in the human eye). These are highly sensitive and are the reason that cats can see so well in low light.
π Although cats can see well in low light, the image is quite grainy (compared to humans)
π Less cones in the retina means less colour so cats can only see yellow and blue (and the combination of these, green)
π Cats cannot see the colour Red
π Cats pay little attention to colour, instead they take their cues from brightness and patterns
π So colour vision is sacrificed for improved vision in low light
π Seeing the world this way allows cats to detect subtle movement very well and this can help to detect prey, without the distraction of bright colours
Be aware of the dangers of Antifreeze when it comes to our cats π
If you suspect you cat may have ingested in, call your vet immediately π
Antifreeze is commonly used in the winter months to prevent cars and pipes from freezing up βοΈ
It can make its way on to the ground through dripping and leakage and can be licked and ingested by our cats, due to it's sweet taste.
Common Signs of Antifreeze poisoning are :
- Vomiting
- Excessive drinking
- Incoordination
- Increased urination
- Seizures (fits)
- Panting/heavy breathing
If you suspect that your pet has been exposed to antifreeze, call your vet immediately.
Let's keep our cats safe this winter π±

What do you think is going on here??
Leo is the latest addition to the Purrfections Cattery family and introducing him to Fluffy was an important part of this.
Any cat introduction should be taken slowly and in stages. Preparing the environment is an important part of this too.
What advice do you think Fluffy is sharing with Leo?
We think Luna is, as she enjoys her comfy blanket π€©
Each chalet at Purrfections Cattery has plenty of comfortable bedding for your cat. However, we encourage you to bring your cats own bed or blanket too. If your cat sleeps on your bed then put a towel or blanket underneath him or her for a few nights before boarding and bring that with you, to bring some smells from home with them.

Blue recently had surgery when she stayed with us so spent time relaxing and recovering in her comfortable chalet π
Handsome Tom took in all of the sights during his stay with us, from the highest vantage point in his chalet.
Each chalet provides options for your cat to perch at different levels.
Did you know that as a species cats like to use any available vertical height?
As natural predators this gives them a way to survey their environment while also providing safety (remember cats are a prey species too).
Happy Monday from Gizmo, who is enjoying some qt relaxing on his extra fluffy bedding π»
