Hi everyone, I know I haven't been online for ages! That was because I was having so much fun with the pets I was minding and/or walking! I promise I'll post up a few collages soon of all the lovely pets I was honoured to look after over the summer 😊

I have seen a few posts on Facebook that caught my eye recently - people offering dog pack walking services. This sounds like a great idea, right? I did thought of this idea and thought it was an efficient and quick way of earning more money per hour while walking many dogs simultaneously.

After weighing the pros and cons, I decided against it and opted to walk one dog or two dogs at a time only. Why?

First of all, I genuinely love dogs and love to give them my undivided time and attention which they wouldn't get from dog pack walking.

I would be able to see if a dog is coping and happy. It is possible for dog pack walkers to miss signs of unhappiness in a pack and would unknowingly be triggering stress and/or health issues to an unhappy dog or two.

While walking one or two dogs, I can easily manage the dogs and pick up their poos simultaneously. I don't think this can be managed within a pack if there is one or more reactive dogs in it. Some poos might be left on the ground behind by dog pack walkers in order to manage their pack.

If something startles a dog when I'm walking it or walking two dogs at the time, I can calm the dog down and console it while managing the 2nd dog. However, a startled dog within a pack might cause others to be out of control, causing harm to themselves or others.

It is never a good idea to walk reactive dogs within a pack.

Like humans, there are extroverted and introverted dogs. Dogs have different personalities, play dynamics and so forth. Walking one or two introverted dogs within a pack consisting of mainly extroverted dogs, the introverted dogs might be intimidated by the extroverted dogs' assertive or bullying behaviours which could cause the quiet dogs to withdraw into themselves.

Some dogs may not be able to cope emotionally with various different breeds and sizes of dogs within a pack while out walking.

I often find some dogs like to be in the lead as in leading in front. I let them because they are enjoying themselves in a healthy balanced way. Can you imagine a few dogs within a pack trying to get in front of the other dogs? They would be straining on their leads and might lunge at other dogs in frustration.

Above are the reasons why my dog walking service is mainly focused on one or two dogs alone. I often take the dogs I walk or look after to a dog park so they can socialise with other dogs so they are not losing out on any form whatsoever.

Just because a dog pack walking services might sound wonderful and more sociable, it doesn't mean all dogs will love it...

May Queen Elizabeth rest in peace. Such a dignified woman and she served her country well. Thought it would be nice to share this article on her love for Corgis ❀️

Throughout Queen Elizabeth II’s long reign there has been many constants. One that captured many people’s imaginations was her love of dogs, particularly Pembroke Welsh Corgis. In fact she became synonymous with her love of the dog breed. Her corgi, Susan, founded a royal dynasty of dogs that spa...

Please protect your pets in this heat β˜€οΈ

Heatstroke is a real danger for our pets and it's our job to keep them safe during this extremely hot weather. Dogs can not regulate their body temperature the same way as humans can and so it’s important to take all the necessary steps to ensure your pet stays cool and safe in this hot weather.

Do not walk your dog during the day in this heat, it is simply to hot for them. Even the footpaths can burn their paws. Keep them in the shade at all times and provide plenty of water for them. Try to walk your dog very early in the morning or late in the evening when it's cooler.

Paddling pools are a great way to help keep them cool during the day. Freeze their favourite treats and toys, this will encourage them to lick which can help them hydrate. It also keeps them still and lying down which will help stop them from overheating.

In the house make sure they have access to a shaded area too, the sun coming through the window can be very hot. Also make sure they have plenty of access to fresh cold water. You can use a damp towel on the kitchen floor for them to lie on to help keep them cool while indoors.

Sun cream should be applied to cats and dogs (even in the shade), especially those with white coats, white noses or ear tips. Be sure to use a pet friendly sun cream.

Never ever leave your dog in the car, temperatures can rise very very quickly in hot cars making it extremely dangerous for our pets. Parking in the shade or leaving a window open is not going to help!

Brachycephalic Dogs - Please be extra vigilant with flat faced/short-nosed dogs, e.g. boxers, french bulldogs, bulldogs, pugs. They can suffer with breathing on a normal day!

If you are worried about your pet at all in this heat please consult your vet sooner rather than later.

Keep our beloved furry friends safe 🐾
