National Black Cat Day

It's the day of the black cat - a creature woven deep into Irish folklore and tradition.🐈‍⬛‍⬛

In Ireland, black cats have long been seen as symbols of luck and blessing, but during Samhain, when the veil between worlds grows thin, black cats took on a more mystical meaning.

Legends tell of the Cat-sìth, a great black fairy cat said to walk between the human world and the Otherworld. People would leave out a saucer of milk to appease the Cat-sìth and earn its favour (and avoid mischief!).

And for those wandering the boglands, there’s the tale of the Lucky Black Bog Cat of Lough Neagh - a sleek, swift cat whose appearance foretold happiness and wealth.

So, today, let’s celebrate these enchanting creatures - symbols of mystery, magic, and good fortune in Irish hearts. 💚🐾
