In designing our new clinic, 'cat-friendliness' was accounted for at every step, from our waiting room to our cattery. Your cat will feel at ease with our staff, who handle patients with empathy and compassion and we allow your cat time to acclimatize to the new environment.

🐱 World Diabetes Day – Keeping Our Feline Friends Healthy! 🐱

On World Diabetes Day, we want to shine a light on a condition that can affect our beloved cats.

What is Feline Diabetes?
Diabetes in cats occurs when the body struggles to produce or respond to insulin, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. This condition is manageable, but early detection is key to your cat’s health.

Signs to Watch For:

- Increased thirst
- Frequent urination
- Unexplained weight loss
- Lethargy or decreased activity
- Increased appetite without weight gain

Is Your Cat at Risk?

Feline diabetes is more common in older or overweight cats, and certain breeds may be at higher risk. Regular vet check-ups are essential for early detection.

At Just Cats, we’re dedicated to helping you keep your feline friend healthy.

Caring for your cat’s teeth

Here’s what to look for:
Teeth - Clean, white, and free of chips.
Gums - Pink, healthy, and without sores, redness, or swelling.
Mouth - Check for ulcers or foreign objects—like pesky string—especially at the back.

If your cat's breath smells foul, it could indicate an infection. Don't wait—schedule a checkup if you notice any changes in their breath. Persistent bad breath can be a sign of serious periodontal disease that needs attention.

Regular dental check-ups are key to keeping your feline friend healthy!

Halloween Top Tip

Carved pumpkins with eerie faces, illuminated by candles, are a Halloween favourite for setting the spooky mood. However, your cat might be intrigued by the flickering light inside. Be sure not to leave your cat alone in a room or area with lit pumpkins. A curious cat could accidentally knock one over, risking injury from burns or potentially causing a fire if the candle tips over.

National Black Cat Day 🖤

Black cats have long been symbols of good luck, love, and magic in various cultures around the world.

In modern Western culture, particularly in the U.S., black cats are often associated with Halloween. They are seen as spooky symbols of the night, often depicted alongside witches and other supernatural entities. While many people still believe that a black cat crossing your path brings bad luck, others see it as a harmless superstition.

Today, we celebrate these mysterious, elegant, and utterly charming feline friends.

How do I know if my cat is overweight?

A healthy cat should have a slight waist when viewed from above and you should be able to feel, but not see, the ribs. Our vets can help you assess your cat’s body condition and recommend a weight management plan if needed.

Ensure that your cat is microchipped, and that their ID tag is up to date in case they get lost. The fireworks, bangers and costumes can spook cats, leading them to stray unexpectedly.
