Little Bruno, at just 5 months old is already picking up on loose lead heeling like a boss π
I'm always amazed with puppies. They are very seldom perfect, but when you consider that this little pup has literally been alive for only 5 months, his ability to comprehend, his intelligence and willingness to comply with what we ask... I just find them incredible. Hes a little rock star β€
These guys did a super job with this boy. He's a sweet natured, lovely boy and has the kind of personality that I hope that every family with a new dog is lucky enough to find.
I have no doubt that this little guy will grow up to be a wonderful member of the family β€
Kaiya just LOVES playing with Tyson and the hose pipe. He is so incredibly good with her π₯°

Tyson living his best life in the forest ππ
This is part 3 to our training session, started 2 weeks ago.
We start off with a few obedience exercises and end with some impulse control games.
When he makes a mistake, we just reset and try again. No big deal. I want him to love working with me and when I change things up constantly and quickly, I recognise that it takes considerable concentration to keep up. So by this last part of the traing session, if his concentration flags and he makes a few mistakes, that's OK with me.
I love ending the session with a little scatter feed too. It helps calm him down after all the physical activity and as sniffing is something that dogs find reinforcing, it's a great way to reward him after the session.
This is something called a movement puzzle. It is up to Tyson to move his way around the obstacle course on his own, moving between bowls to get some food. This is fantastic for teaching focus, teaching proprioception (where your own body is) and for getting their body moving. It is up to the handler to set the course up in such a way that the dog succeeds without instruction. Tyson was already pretty tired here, but you can see how much he enjoys these games π₯° #dogtraining #dogsofireland #germanshepherd #workingdog #dogtrainingcork #dogsofcork #dogoftheday #dogtrainingtip #dogtraing #creatingvalue #bestdog #welltrained #dogtrainerireland #dogsofinstagram
Another fun training video with Tyson.π
This was from a couple of weeks ago, when we were just starting to learn orbit (reverse around me). You will see that my hand stays close to his nose while I'm teaching it, to show him the way that I'd like him to move his body. He tries really hard with this and I was very chugged with him, despite the few mistakes that were made.
He was really full of beans in this session and you can see the level of energy that he had, although he did a great job focusing, despite the energy levels.
You can also see how much I jump between different exercises when I train. This not only stops us from getting bored with the training, but it also keeps him mentally agile, and keeps the training sessions light and fun.
You'll also see that when he makes mistakes, I just tell him "No" and politely set him up and we try again. I know that he tries his best. If he is making mistakes then it's up to me to figure out why. Does he not understand the exercise? Am I going to fast? Are my hands saying one thing while my body is telling him another? Is it after we have already moved through a few exercises and he's either not focusing fully or is becoming tired? Either way, he's not trying to be naughty it's up to me to figure out why he's not listening, and modify it in the next rep or next training session to get a better outcome from him.

This is part two, following on from last week with a short and fun training session with Tyson.
You can see that over the course of the session, I switch things up often and keep things light-hearted and fun. I reward him often and play with him between exercises.
This is how you can build on your recall too. When your dog loves to work with you and sees you as a source of joy and fun, they are far more likely to come back from other distractions.
Happy training everybody!
A video from a few weeks ago that I forgot to post π Tanya working with the fabulous Harry, working on keeping his focus as he loose lead heels past distractions (favourite toys and bowls of food).
These guys both did a super job on the course and made wonderful progress. When I first met Harry, he was a hyper energetic boy who jumped on everyone , pulled on the lead, wouldnt come when called, was separation anxious and destructive, and who and still hadn't managed to master potty training.
By the end of our time together, Harry sat politely when being greeted, had a lovely loose lead walk, a good whistle recall, had fully mastered potty training and his separation anxiety was under control.
Tanya did a fantastic job with him and these two were an absolute pleasure To work with β€οΈ
Beautiful evening for a frisbee run ππ
Just a piece of a training session that I did with Tyson a few days ago, on a nice cold and frosty morning. I'll be posting two more pieces of this in the coming days.
Our entire training session was just over 7 minutes long. People often tell me that they don't know where to find the time to train their dog. Sparing as little as 7 minutes every morning and evening can do wonders for your dog and to progress your training.
I hope that you enjoy watching Tyson and I playing around and having fun with our training. π
Just Mr Harvey and his dad doing a great job practicing their loose lead walking I'm the real world ππ
This is Poppy, a little Yorkie who is mean to be around 3 years old. Her dad adopted her about 3 months ago from a rescue, and unfortunately, not much is known about Poppy's past.
Poppy's dad came to me to help teach her some basic obedience, particularly recall and lead manners. However, afterworking with Poppy a little, I noticed that she would shut down when asked to do something that she wasnt sure of, or when her space bubble was invaded without her consent. She would hunch down and try make herself smaller, while looking away and often disengaging, actually leaving the room several times too.
So we decided to pivot our training a bit, and leave the obedience course agenda behind. I chose to focus more on work that required a little more distance with Poppy, including Place and Stay, among other exercises, using a technique called shaping. In this, we set the area up for the dog to succeed and then allow them to make their own decisions, rewarding for the correct choice, or subtly helping her to make those choices when she is confused.
Her dad sent me this video of the same evening that we had worked together and I am just so delighted with how much this little lady has come out of her shell with this technique. She is just LOVING this exercise and the enthusiasm and happiness in her body makes my heart smile :)
We still have a ways to go with Poppy. Although she loves her new dad to bits and is 99% of everything that he could have hoped for, it will take a while for us to build her confidence up enough to be able top work with her in more of a traditional way. In the mean time though, I wanted to give a big shout out to her dedicated dad and to celebrate this win.
Keep up the fantastic work guys!

I was going through some videos from earlier this year and found one from when we were out hiking with Nala and Tyson.
These two decided that picking up sticks was small fry they tried to fetch a full on fallen tree π
I love the go get em attitude though π It comes with a good message.
Dream big and go for it, and even if your tree stays stuck in the ground, enjoy the journey regardless π

For those of you with toddlers and young kids, simple exercises like this can really help your dog to form a good bond with your child, especially around areas like their bed and bowl where there can be a tendency to guard space or food.
Kaiya started off throwing nuts for Tyson to fetch, allowing him to have fun running around the room and chasing the rolling kibble. When he gets a little pushy with her, I send him back to his bed to give her more space. We have been working on Tyson taking food from her hands gently and he does so well, but she can't throw the food for him if he's right up in her space. If you don't have a Go To Bed command down yet, then place your toddler higher and out of reach from your dog.
Kaiya had an absolute blast doing this and Tysons was watching her with a furiously wagging tail by the end of it. Feeding Tyson has become one of both of their favourite times of the day.
Note:
It's important to ensure that these interactions are supervised and that both baby and dog remain respectful of each other.
If your dog does tend to resource guard where they growl if people come near their sleeping area or bowl, please do this away from those areas if you want to start, and contact a dog trainer to help you with the next steps to ensure that bub and pup both stay safe.

Meet Teddy everyone!
Is this little guy not just one the cutest balls of fluff that you have ever seen? π
Teddy is an 11 week old Cockerpoo boy. He joined our Baby Obedience course at the tender age of 8 weeks old and is now learning loose lead walking, basic obedience skills and recall, with commands like Go To Bed, Stay, Leave It and Door manners coming up in the next few weeks.
Teddy is a very sweet natured boy and loves to please his mom, dad and 3 human sisters, who are all besotted with him. He is doing great and picking up on training very well.
I look forward to seeing how much more we can achieve with this boy by the end of the course π₯°π₯°π₯°
Its so important to understand the breed that we've decided to add into our lives. As a German Shepherd, Tyson is wary of strangers and is quick to bark when someone enters the house until he knows who it is. As a guardian breed, this is to be expected and through training I've managed to dampen the intensity of his barking, but I can't expect him to totally discontinue a behaviour that his ancestors have been bred for.
Our Collie x, Nala was totally different. She would hear a noise outside and instantly start wagging her tial and whining in excitement. However, with other dogs, she was a true Collie and needed to control their play in an effort to control movement, she herded the cats when she could and became overwhelmed in over visually-busy areas like festivals or parades.
If your dog is exhibiting a specific behaviour that you're confused or concerned about, try looking into their breed history to see why they might be doing this. Sometimes, giving your dog an outlet for the underlying motivators behind these behaviours can be enough to reduce or eliminate the behaviour.

Every dog should have a kid π₯°
Kaiya just loves Tyson so much and 'walking him' is a big hit. He's just so incredibly patient and sweet with her. I'm so grateful for them both every day β€οΈ
Today's tutorial is on teaching your dog to spin, using luring. Spinning is great for flexibility, muscle building and is a trick that most dogs really enjoy. It's also a fun one to show your friends π
Hope you enjoy and happy training!

Does your dog get super excited every time that you want to put their harness, collar or lead on?
Do they jump and wiggle and go racing around as soon as they hear the jingle of the lead clip?
If this is you, and your dog pulls on lead, there's a good chance that their excitement in getting their equipment put on is one of the causes of your dog pulling on walks.
Generally, when you start your walk with excitement and high energy, that continues out the door and onto the road, encouraging pulling and other mistakes from before you even leave the house.
In this tutorial, I'll show you how you can teach your dog to have their equipment put on in a calm and quiet manner, which will also help to impact their behaviour when you head out for your walk.
If you have a dog who pulls on lead, gets overexcited and doesn't listen out on walks, feel free to give us a call and we can chat about your individual needs and how we might be able to help you.
Happy training!
