Pain Awareness Month✨
Did you know September is pain awareness month?

This is a time to raise awareness about the pain and discomfort that animals may experience and how we can help them❤️

Canine osteoarthritis is a very common condition in our pets, it is more common in our older patients but can also affect our furry friends during any stage of their life!

Common signs of arthritis in dogs are
🐾 Limping after exercise and reluctancy to walk
🐾Slow to rise from lying down
🐾Lagging behind on walks
🐾Difficulty jumping
🐾Difficulty with stairs

If this sounds like your pet we would love to help, you can give us a call on 0212028090❤️

You can also visit painindogs.ie and do a quick assessment to see if your pet might need to see a vet and to inform you of signs of arthritis to monitor✨

What an interesting case!🫨
Sasha was referred to us for a CT scan as she was having some unusual discharge from her right nostril🥴

On the CT we could see Sasha had something in her nose that definitely should not be there!
After some more investigation we were able to remove a rather large stick from her right nostril!!🫨

This was definitely causing this gentle giant some discomfort and causing the unusual discharge from her nose, but thankfully all of the stick was removed and Sasha should be feeling much better now!❤️

Sasha’s stick was quite far up her nose that we could not see it with our usual instruments we use to get a better look in her nose so the CT machine was a big help in this case!

Hope you’re feeling better now Sasha, stick free!!🫶🐶

This pretty lady, Mia, joined us for a spay today.✨
She is a stunning Ragdoll cat, just look at those eyes! 💕
Ragdolls are not a cat we see very often in practice so here are some facts about this beautiful breed!

🐾Mostly all ragdoll cats will have those pretty blue ocean eyes like Mia!😍
🐾Ragdolls go limp when picked up, hence the name “Ragdoll”.🫨
🐾They are one of the largest domestic cat breeds.
🐾Ragdoll kittens are born completely white and get their markings as they grow!
🐾Taylor Swift owns a Ragdoll named Benjamin Button🤪

Mia was a star patient today and it’s always a pleasure to see this lovely breed🥰

Pretty little Bella came to us for a consult as she was having some trouble urinating😢
After some further diagnostics we determined that little Bella unfortunately had some stones in her bladder!

Bladder stones are rock-like formations of minerals that develop in the bladder and there is a variety of different stones that can develop!

Common signs of bladder stones are difficulty urinating and sometimes blood in the urine! 😯
Surgery is not always needed for every case of stones but unfortunately for Bella she had quite a large amount so a surgery called a cystotomy was required!

We will send the stones away for analysis to determine exactly what type of bladder stones Bella had but in the mean time Bella should start to feel much better without those pesky stones causing her trouble!

Wishing you a speedy recovery Bella!🥰🥰

Our little girly wirly Maple went to her new home during the week!🥺🥺
It was so great to see her grow into a beautiful, confident, outgoing kitten!🫶
She has gone to a brilliant, 5 star home that we know will love her and treat her as part of their family🥰
Little Mocha isn’t really missing her big sister as she can now dive into her food without being bullied by Maple who was much bigger than her😂😂

Meet Skippy✨
This poor kitten was brought into us a stray with a severe limp.
Upon examination it was determined that Skippy had a very old fracture to his hind leg that unfortunately couldn’t be saved😢🥺
We had to amputate his hind leg and just a day after surgery he is feeling great and already trying to run around playing with all his toys! Aren’t animals just amazing??🥹
Wishing Skippy a speedy recovery🥰🥰
(Skippy gained his name after his operation😂)

This handsome man Benji joined us for a dental procedure today. 🦷
While doing his dental x-rays we noticed an unexpected surprise!
Benji had two unerupted teeth stuck in his jaw bone! 🫨🫨
This is similar to us humans when our wisdom teeth become impacted, and we all know how painful that can be!🥴

We are delighted that Benji’s lovely owner brought him in today as a lot of damage had already been done to his bone due to how these teeth form erosive cysts when left untreated.
We are lucky to have dental X-rays and the facilities here to treat these more complicated cases.

Over 85% of pet dogs have underlying dental pain so dental checks are very important for our furry friends. We recommend annual vet checks so we can help identify any painful or diseased areas that will need treating.

This brave boy Benji had quite a few other teeth removed today but he is very comfortable.🫶💕

Our kittens are a month old this week! How time flies😍
We are looking for help to name them as they have been nameless up until now!

They are both little ladies and to give you an insight into their personalities the tabby female is outgoing, confident and always hungry and our little tortie female is more reserved, loves cuddles and is always purring🥹

We would love to hear your suggestions, comment below! ✨

Let’s talk teeth🦷✨

This handsome boy was in for a dental procedure today. He was lucky enough to have very observant owners who noticed a fractured tooth and wasted no time in bringing him in to be checked over.

He had a general anaesthetic which allowed us to safely examine and x-ray his mouth. His lower canine had a nasty fracture and the pulp cavity (where the nerves and blood supply sit) was exposed. 🫨

Even in the short time since the fracture, there has been significant infection and pain. The tooth was extracted and the area sutured closed to ensure optimal healing. This beautiful boy woke up feeling much happier and pain free! He wolfed down some food and even found time to have some cuddles with our nurse, Sharon 🥰

Dental disease is one of the main welfare concerns in our companion animals and all pets are recommended to get an annual dental check. Contact us today to arrange an appointment and we can talk through any toothy troubles!🦷

✨AMNESTY VACCINATION✨

Here at Blackpool Vets preventative care for your animals is very important to us.💗

Animals that are not properly vaccinated are at a much higher risk at contracting infectious diseases, some can even be fatal!

Puppies and kittens need a primary course of vaccines to start and as an adult they need yearly booster vaccinations. If a booster vaccine is missed it means the primary course of vaccinations need to be started again. 🐾

We understand that sometimes life can get busy and adult dogs and cats may miss their annual booster vaccines so we are offering an amnesty vaccine!

This means any dog over 1 year old, whose vaccine has lapsed by 3 months or more, we will give the primary vaccine and then give the second “booster” vaccine FREE!✨

This means you pay for the 1st vaccine and we pay for the 2nd! 🫨

See our picture below to see what we vaccinate our puppies/ kittens and adult dogs and cats for!

If you think your adult dog or cat is late for its annual booster vaccine give us a call on 0212028090 to make an appointment today!🐾💗
