Meet Ramen Spicy Noodle✨

She is a Western Hognose snake that required surgery to remove a calcified egg from her abdomen. 🐍

This is called egg binding and if not resolved it can be fatal.

Ramens surgery went smoothly and at her post op check her owner reports she is doing super. 🎉🥳

✨Meet Norton✨

Norton came in for a CT scan after something abnormal was palpated in his abdomen.
On CT it was revealed that Norton had quite a large mass on his spleen! 😮

The spleen is responsible for removing old and damaged red blood cells and plays a part in storage and production of red and white blood cells. While the spleen has these functions it is not a vital organ and animals can live a happy life without it!

A splenectomy (removal of the spleen) was performed successfully and Norton recovered from his surgery without any ill effects, a star patient🥹❤️

Many of you may remember Achilles, the kitty whose leg was caught in a wooden gate. His leg was amputated, and after a long, hard recovery, he has had 6 teeth removed at Blackpool Vets
As we can see, he is happy to be back home and being pain free.
Cats hide pain and discomfort very well so it's thanks to Catherine his long term foster person that she recognised that lip smacking and him trying to remove something stuck to the roof of his mouth was a sign of something was wrong.

February is Pet Dental Health Month✨
Puppies also need dental checks! During a vaccine appointment it was noted that poor little Shelby had a fracture of her baby canine! 🥺
This little fracture on such a baby tooth could have caused some big problems like pain, discomfort, infection and it could also damage the unerupted adult tooth 🦷
The fractured baby tooth was extracted so Shelby should be feeling much better!

Spot is a 14 year old Collie who was referred to us last week all the way from Castletownbere after an unknown trauma. X-rays showed that she had sustained a coxo-femoral luxation of her right hind limb.(dislocated hip) 🦴

The hip was reduced (put back in place) under anaesthesia prior to surgery and a hip toggle was performed to allow the hip to heal.
The hip toggle is an open reduction and stabilisation technique for the management of traumatic luxation of the coxofemoral joint.

Spot was discharged from hospital today (with her lovely new haircut🥹) and we are sure she is delighted to be home with her family on the farm.✨
This older lady was an absolute star patient and we wish her a Speedy recovery🥰

A huge congratulations to our nurse Georgina who recently passed her exams and received a certificate in Anaesthesia and Analgesia.🥳🥳

We also have certificate holders in surgical nursing and wound management!🎓

Poor little Coco was involved in an unfortunate accident that caused a nasty break of her front leg🤕 This type of fracture is called a Monteggia fracture!
As a result, she needed to have surgery to repair this very painful injury! Her fracture was reduced (bones aligned) and fixed using plates and screws! 🦴
She then needed to have a spica splint placed to immobilise her leg and help it heal!
Fortunately, after lots bandage changes and rest Cocos fracture is healing up beautifully!
She is now splint free and walking very comfortably on her once injured leg🥹
The first picture shows Cocos fracture when we first saw her, the second X-ray is straight after surgery and the last X-ray is now 6 weeks later!
Also in the comments is a video of Coco walking with ease on her leg✨
Coco was so brave all through her surgery, hospitalisation and recovery and a big well done to Coco and her lovely owners for all their hard work and patience during her rehabilitation❤️

Cat Action Trust are an amazing volunteer run charity with the main aim of reducing the number of unwanted cats/ kittens by the method of Trap/ Neuter/ Return. Our little Mocha also came from this super charity! ✨
We have had the pleasure of working with Cat Action Trust Cork members since our opening in April helping to treat and neuter cats in their care!
We are looking forward to working with you again in the new year!😸

Come and do a dental with us on the lovely Staffie Shadow🥰🦷 🐾A full health check is performed before every procedure 🩺 🐾Shadow was pre-medicated to give her pain relief and make her a little sleepy💤 🐾Our nurses placed an IV catheter and Shadow was given some oxygen before being induced by a vet for her anaesthetic! 🐾Shadow had a descale and polish to remove any tartar and plaque that had built up and her teeth were assessed with a probe to check for cavities, gum problems and other issues that can arise with teeth🦷 🐾X-rays of all her teeth were done to check areas you can’t see from the gum line and to check the roots of the teeth! 🐾Shadows teeth were in perfect health so she didn’t require any extractions! This is all credit to her owners who are diligent in ensuring Shadows teeth are checked annually and cleaned and treated as needed! Shadow recovered from anaesthetic very well and is already home and enjoying the sun 🌞

What an interesting case!🫨 Sasha was referred to us for a CT scan as she was having some unusual discharge from her right nostril🥴 On the CT we could see Sasha had something in her nose that definitely should not be there! After some more investigation we were able to remove a rather large stick from her right nostril!!🫨 This was definitely causing this gentle giant some discomfort and causing the unusual discharge from her nose, but thankfully all of the stick was removed and Sasha should be feeling much better now!❤️ Sasha’s stick was quite far up her nose that we could not see it with our usual instruments we use to get a better look in her nose so the CT machine was a big help in this case! Hope you’re feeling better now Sasha, stick free!!🫶🐶

Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month🐾💗

Did you know May was veterinary nurse awareness month?💗 A vet nurse has a range of diverse skills and abilities which make them an integral part of a veterinary team. 🐾 They can be found anywhere from monitoring anaesthetic, managing wounds, placing catheters and running blood tests, doing diagnostic imaging and everything in between! From cuddles and play time, to comforting owners and pets they really are super hero’s! So a huge thank you to our veterinary nurses here in Blackpool vets and to all veterinary nurses, you do truly amazing things🐾💕
