Since opening in 2003 we have been awarded Hospital Status by the Practice Accreditation Board of the Irish Veterinary Council - the highest rank that can be achieved. The services available include:
Veterinary Consultations - vaccinations, microchipping and advice on how to look after your pet. Consults are also for those pets feeling a bit under the weather for whatever reason. Nurses Consultat

Puppy Parties - to help owners socialise new puppies and answer any questions they may have our Nurses also hold regular puppy parties. Veterinary Surgery - we have two dedicated surgeries which allows us to perform routine surgical procedures, such as neutering, and more complicated surgical procedures such as orthopaedics, cruciate ligament repair, soft tissue surgery etc. Veterinary Diagnostics - to aid in the diagnosis of illness we have an x-ray machine, ultrasound and also an inhouse labarotory for blood and other fluid analysis. 18/05/2024

Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) is an increasingly common presentation in our flat-faced dog breeds.

As the skull is shortened via selective breeding, the soft tissues inside do not reduce in size proportionately, therefore causing an upper airway obstruction.

French bulldogs, English bulldogs and pugs are most commonly affected by BOAS.

Primary anatomical abnormalities include stenotic nares, elongation of the soft palate, an oversized tongue, abnormal nasal turbinate growth and tracheal hypoplasia.

Dogs affected by BOAS will classically display progressive clinical signs including..

➡️ snoring (stertor) 🐽

➡️ increased respiratory effort 🌬

➡️ decreased exercise and heat tolerance 🥵

➡️ sleeping issues 💤 (sleep with their head elevated or with a toy in their mouth)

➡️ regurgitation 🤮 (hiatal hernias develop due to increased pressure created by an obstructed airway that can cause these dogs to regurgitate)

➡️ collapse/cyanosis 🚨

Dogs with these clinical signs benefit from early surgical correction of existing primary abnormalities before secondary changes occur, such as everted tonsils, everted laryngeal saccules and collapse of the arytenoid cartilages caused by turbulent airway flow and chronic high negative pressures in the pharynx.

Meet Smudge 🥸

Smudge had an accident 6 weeks ago and fractured four of his metatarsal bones. 🦴

A dorsal S shaped incision was made and his metatarsal fractures were stabilised with using retrograde placement of four k-wires.
His 6 week post operative radiographs show full bone union and we are delighted that Smudge is completely back to his mischievous self 😊

Always celebrate the wins 🐱 😊

This best boy would really love to get out of kennels for Easter 🐣 please contact Cork Dog Action Welfare Group if you can offer this gorgeous boy a foster home 🐶

Our vets have asked us for help with this boy . We can’t help unless we can get him a foster . He’s less that a year old and was found with a bad injury to his leg . He has been getting regular bandage changes over the last few weeks and the wound is healing . He’s a sweet boy and already through so much in his young life . We would really love to get him out of the vets and into a foster home . He’s fine with other dogs . If you can help please get in touch using this link https://www.dogactionwelfaregroup.ie/fostering/foster-application/ . Secure garden needed .

❗️PARVOVIRUS WARNING❗️
We have seen an increased number of Parvovirus cases here in the hospital in the past number of weeks. ☹️

Parvovirus is a very contagious virus that can be fatal.
Parvovirus can be transmitted by direct contact with infected dogs, in infected faeces, by contaminated objects and more!

Prevention for this virus is making sure your puppy is fully vaccinated, keeping up to date with annual vaccines even as adults and practice good hygiene. 🩺
