The schnauzer is a German breed with its name meaning snout or whiskered snout/moustache.
There are three different sizes in Schnauzer - The Standard, Miniature and Giant. The Standard Schnauzer was the original size with the larger and smaller versions coming along at a later date
The breed was originally bred as a stable dog whose jobs consisted of being both a guard dog and a keen rattler (rat catcher)
The traditional method of grooming is handstripping which maintains and encourages the wiry texture of their top coat and colour but clipping may be preferred for neutered and/or pet dogs.
They come in four FCI recognised colours
Pure black with black undercoat
Pepper and salt
Black/silver and
Pure white with white undercoat

Obi was in for his first groom at WAGD. His owners travelled 60km to have him groomed by in-house Master Dog Groomer Tom. As you can see Obi was perfectly behaved throughout. This is greatly helped by Obi’s owners who have kept his coat in fantastic condition by regularly brushing and combing thoroughly at home, meaning Obi is used to being groomed, so no nerves and no stress at the groomers. Happy dog, happy groomer!
