"Leave it" intro with Ody! 🧡🐾 Resisting the temptation of food on the ground is haaaaard! (when you're a dog 🤣) Most "leave it" exercises involve blocking the food and waiting for the dog to "give up" before rewarding them for leaving the food. However, some dogs might find being blocked or having access to yummies suddenly removed very frustrating. This could lead to: 🔸️reduced interest in food - the dog may become conflicted ("can I have it?... can I not have it?...") 🔸️snatching the food/scratching or nipping - the dog may become obsessed with trying to get to the food ("better get it before the human blocks it!") Here, Ody is learning to slow down when approaching a pile of super yummy treats because he anticipates his human will reward him with a tidbit - no social pressure, no frustration, no conflict! This is Ody's very first practice, and we will be building on this over the next few sessions to generalise this new response to different environments and situations!
