Hello Willow!

Willow gets very excited going on her walks & has a tendency to pull!
So we did some work on walking nicely on a lead, learning to not pull & how staying close is more fun!

Lead Walking!!!

One of the biggest issues I come across as a dog trainer is pulling on the lead!

Well here are some of my top tips….get ready!

🐶First thing get a good lead! Not a tiny short one & not a super long one….6ft is perfect! It’s the Goldilocks of leads for me!

🐶When your dog pulls - get ready for this - STOP!

🐶Most of us keep walking, looking like superman arm outstretched, cursing our dog because we feel our arm is coming out of our socket!

🐶Don’t call them..don’t pull back on the lead - just stand there & WAIT!

🐶When your dog comes back towards you, so turns back in to you then & only then move forward

🐶The longer your dog has pulled the more of a habit this becomes, the longer the habit the harder to break so this takes time & patience!

🐶One of my biggest tip- Most dogs are more chilled on the walk back home so for 2 weeks suck up the pulling to the park etc BUT on the way home practice the above!

🐶Now the biggie!!! When your dog is walking beside you or at a level YOU like - reward that behaviour with something yummy!!

🐶The more dogs get rewarded for the stuff we like them doing the more they do that behaviour!

Now I have LOTS more tips for loose lead but I can’t give them all away so if you would more info contact me for some 121 training for you & your dog!

Good Luck!!

Carrots!!!

As kids were told to eat our carrots, they’re good for our eyesight!

But did you know carrots are great for dogs! Teething pups especially!

Raw carrots allow your pup to really get their teeth into something a little hard & allows them the relief from need from chewing!

Pop them in the fridge so they are nice & cold!

Dog owner tip: if you pup is reminding you of a child & refusing eat their veg! Make a very very very watery gravy! (It has to be watery too strong your pup would have the runs 🙈) soak the carrots in it, the flavour of the gravy will encourage your pup to get stuck in!

Puppy Pads!!!
One of the first things people buy when they get a puppy…but are they worth it?
Simple answer: NO!
Puppy pads can be useful if you can’t be there to let your pup out to toilet BUT for most people they find that the pup will chew/tear/eat the pads.
If you are in the house, take the pad up! When the pads are down it can make us be a little lazy “oh it’s ok if pup has an accident they’ll use the pad” - reality they probably won’t! Once they use it once most pups are done with it!
If the pad isn’t available we are more inclined to “be on it” we don’t have the safety of the pad to save our floors!
Pups will need to go after waking up, eating & any level of excitement!
Really you need to be bringing them outside every 30/40 mins at the beginning.
This will lengthen once you get used to their schedule & their little bladder fully forms.
Using a pad indoors is still teaching your pup that they can go indoors…
My advice get rid of the pads!
Only use when you can’t be there to allow them access to outside!

That’s a wrap for 2023!

Some changes made, 2023 has been a rough year business wise, no point in lying about saying it’s been amazing!
It hasn’t!!
It’s probably been the toughest year since I started, it’s terrifying & anxiety inducing all at the same time!

The change in the economy has a knock on effect to small businesses & especially ones that sometimes don’t feel like a necessity to people.

In saying that we’ve made it through!
Hoping 2024 is brighter & better.

Thinking of the beloved dogs that crossed Rainbow Bridge this year, especially thinking of my own beautiful Maggie who inspired me to be a dog trainer.

No idea what 2024 holds!

I would like to Thank all my wonderful clients for yet again trusting me with your dogs & allowing me into your homes & family.

It’s a privilege to be allowed to do this job & I am forever grateful.

Have a fantastic Christmas everyone & here’s to an amazing new year!
Love Rox
