We are back with Halloumi the Land Cloud to work on a couple of things that her owners were having a little bit of a struggle with. Halloumi's owners are so dedicated to helping her be the best pup she can be, but her sassiness can make it a bit more of a challenge at times. These struggles are not major but if not addressed can turn into big problems, so her owners are quick to get ahead of these before they do. Refusing to get off furniture when instructed, refusing to move away from temptations like other dogs, especially if they had a treat(Halloumi competes in dog shows so learning to stay out of other dogs' spaces is important), and working on other skills like settling out and about as Halloumis life is full of adventure and learning to be less possessive of food when other dogs are around. All of these are quite specific for Halloumi and her owner's needs and lifestyle and I am always so delighted to work with them every time they need some guidance. I have trained with Halloumi and her owners since she was a pup and watching her grow into the loveliest, fluffiest, sassiest girl has been wonderful, and is always such a pleasure to work with her and her owners. Playing Tug is a game that is so underrated. Owners have been misinformed to think that it will cause aggression in their dogs. This is an old myth that has been disproven over and over again. Tug is great for bonding with your dog, great for teaching impulse control, and super physical and mental exercise, and is a great tool for building reinforcement in behaviours when training. Once Roscoe possessed the toy he would keep it for himself. In this video, I played a game of tug to build that trust and diminish his suspicion that I am going to take the toy from him. He learns if he gives up the toy, he gets a toy and the game continues. We build on Roscoe choosing to bring me the toy to initiate a game of tug. All of which will contribute to him learning to play fetch, to come when called, to drop, improve focus and engagement with humans, the list goes on. So grab a tug toy and get playing 🐾💚

Charlie is a big goofy teen and has so much love to give. Charlie hasn't had the best support in his early days. He was found straying and previous owners didn't want him back. Luckily he ended up in the care of Dublin County Dog Shelter, where he was quickly snatched up by his new owner who has been giving Charlie all the love and support he needs to settle into his new life. Charlie is super clever but has lacked guidance and training in his early days so there are some life skills to learn and some habits to unlearn. A lot of things are new to Charlie such as sleeping indoors, playing with toys, and even going for walks but he has been taking it all in his stride and is improving and learning every day. I am so proud of how far he has already come, and I and Charlies owner are working together to tackle any new developments that arise as he continues to settle into his new life, learn all his new skills, and gain more confidence. When training loose lead, poeple can get so focused on the lead itself instead of the dog. The lead isn't what is training your dog to walk nicely, it is simply a tool used for managemant and safety. It is the human at the other end of the lead that is training the dog. Training in appropriate environments that set the dog up to succeed, along with rewarding them for engaging with you will naturally help improve the dogs loose lead skills. Loose lead doesnt mean walking in a perfect heal position or not allowing the dog to stop and sniff, loose lead is exactly what it says on the tin. So whether your dog walks next to you, in front of you or behind you, as long as they are not pulling, that is loose lead walking. And for your dogs benifit, let them sniff! 🐾💚

Griffin is a typical goldendoodle who gets very excited with, well everything 😅 Griffin's owners needed some guidence on how to help him be more calm and relaxed when visitors come into the home instead of jumping and mouthing at them with excitement. They also wanted this to apply to meeting people on walks. Griffin also struggles to contain himself when going to new enviroments, leaving his owners to struggle with getting him to listen and focus. Teaching dogs how to relax and settle is an important life skill that all dogs need to learn, in all types of situations and enviroments. And that is exactly what Roscoe and I and practising in this video, taking advantage of a barking dog passing by, which is a tough thing for Roscoe to ignore. Practising these exericses thoughout your walks will give them the skills to relax at home when youre busy, when guests come to visit, when you are out and about, when you're at a cafe enjoying some lunch, thats just naming a few sinarios where being relaxed and settled is important. So be sure to add this skill to your walks and everyday activities, to have a more relaxed and settled dog 🐾💚

Boundaries and impulse control is very important for every dog to learn at any age. These important life skills can be learned in various ways, in various situations and environments. In this case with Roscoe, we are using his routine when I pick him up for his gallivants to practise he boundaries and impulse control with thresholds. Just because a door is open whether it be his crate, sitting room door or front door, doesn't mean he goes bursting though these thresholds. Practising this at every threshold allows us to get our repetitions in, teaches Roscoe to do this with every threshold he goes through not just one, and gives us the opportunity to progress on this at a pace realistic to Roscoes ability. I often have concerned puppy owners ask the same question, "Is it normal for them to sleep so much?!' Yes, yes it is. as long as puppy in happy, energetic, playful and isn't showing any signs of being poorly, lots of sleep is normal. Actually is it very important. Puppy experience so much stimulation, are learning every second of the day and their little bodies are growing, which makes puppy very sleepy. and whilst they sleep, their brains process all the information, stimulation and experiences they have when awake, which means they are even learning in their sleep. Milo is struggling with a bit of reactivity with some dogs and all big fluffy dogs. It is quite common for a dog to be good with dogs but be anxious of certain types dogs. Milo has been improving on his reactivity and has also working on his leash skills and improving his recall. Training your dog wont just benefit you when they're pups or in the first few months of owning them, it will benefit you and your dog for the rest of your dogs life. Though it is important to start when they are young, it is NEVER too late to start. Yes an old dog can learn new tricks. This was Roz's biggest challenge yet and she did amazing. This park was a no go for Roz and her owners as it is very dog populated. Even on the windiest day, Roz continued to smash it in her training. Given Roz's history and her level of fear towards dogs, she may never be able to interact with another and you know what, that is okey! Roz's owners truely understand her needs and from the beginning made it clear to me that this was never their goal with her training. They just wanted her to be able to relax more out in the world and enjoy her walks and that is exactly what they have achieved. Since working with Roz and her family I continue to get updates on her progress, and to say she has thrived is an understatement. A massive well done to her family for their dedication in helping Roz and giving this sweet girl a truely loving and supportive home. Go team Roz 🐾💚

On our Gallivants we do lots of practice of Roscoes training. We are focusing on his engagement with me (human at the other end of the leash), his loose leash skills, and giving plenty of reinforcement for making good choices to ignore the people walking behind and passing by us. Roscoe is a super confident and friendly pup so people and dogs are very exciting for him. Developing these skills early in life is very important as they are the foundations of all the life skills and training he learns. Best boy Roscoe 🐾💚

Kumara’s owners are very active people who love enjoying days out but were struggling to manage Kumara when out in new and busy places. They would love nothing more than have Kumara join them and relax in places like cafes and beer gardens. Kumara would get excited and distracted by certain triggers so we worked on improving her engagement with her owners, strengthen her impulse control and improve her skills to settle in these environments. On our Gallivants we do lots of practice of Roscoes training. We are focusing on his engagement with me (human at the other end of the leash), his loose leash skills, and giving plenty of reinforcement for making good choices to ignore the people walking behind and passing by us. Roscoe is a super confident and friendly pup so people and dogs are very exciting for him. Developing these skills early in life is very important as they are the foundations of all the life skills and training he learns. For some it's scary, others maybe old/injured/unwell, they could be newly adopted and are still settling into their new life and surroundings or maybe they have been attacked by another dog in the past. The list goes on and on as to why dogs aren't friendly with other dogs. If you're an owner who has a friendly dog, please understand and respect owners who don't. Rua was such a super girl! Learning her boundaries in her new home, how to control her impulses as this new life is just so full of joy and excitement and building more engemant and a bond with her owner. This little lady had a ruff start but is now thriving and loving life. her joy and zest is just infectious. Kobi is a lovable goof who wants to be friends with everyone. This caused her to pull, jump and get very excited with every person and at the sight of every dog, making it very difficult to walk her. It was even painful for a family member due to an injury and they hated that they couldn't walk her. Now both the owner and Kobi enjoy relaxing walks together and the whole family have strategies in place to help her be more focused on them and calm around other dogs. We also worked on a list of things, from politely greeting visitors, counter surfing, barking out the window, recall, and leash skills. Kobi was and star student and her whole family were so fun to work with.
