It’s grass seed (also called foxtail) season right now they can cause a lot of damage for our furry friends. They can puncture the skin and migrate, causing lots of infections. They can also work their way into eyes, ears and noses, causing huge discomfort for our pets. So;
• Keep pets away from long grassy areas
• Check their fur for any grass seeds when you get home - especially eyes, ears, nose, armpits and toes.
• Keep long-haired dogs trimmed or clipped and well-groomed
• If you notice any sore eyes/ears/paws contact your vet immediately - damage ranges from minor irritation to requiring surgery
Signs for eyes: weeping or red, pet pawing at eyes
Signs for ears: head shaking, pawing at ears
Signs for stuck in toes: swelling, lameness, bleeding.
