We had a pleasure of meeting Gandalf today. He is a very confident kitten and loved the scales.
Gorgeous Penny is always cautious. She was still curious enough to come and have a look at what was going on.
Is not that great when a new kitten gets on well with the house cat, who was already there for a few years 😊

We are looking forward to meeting placid Marci again for his post-surgery check up.

In Ireland we have cats sitting on the walls, and walking here and there. In Costa Rica they have iguanas of different sizes and different colours doing the same thing. Awesome! 😎

There not many cats visible in Costa Rica.
A few cats, that we met, were not shy.
The reasons for low numbers of cats might be too many stray dogs, carnivore capuchin monkeys, crocodiles and other carnivore animals, plus cats' passion for hunting everything small, including venomous frogs, snakes and insects.

Many kind people build little houses for the outdoor cats in their neighbourhood.
This cat house, that our clients in Johnstown built for their community cats, is a piece of art! Very fancy. Well done 👍

We had a pleasure of meeting Vauban in his new home today. He is a very healthy, confident and happy 3 months old Siberian kitten. He came from a good breeder, fully vaccinated, microchipped and with a flea and worm dose.
Vauban stayed with his cat family until he was 12 weeks old, which was ideal.
Best of luck to the little man and his lovely family :)

Flexo is a gorgeous senior pet with multiple health conditions. One of those is arthritis. Flexo's family work very hard to keep their boy comfortable.
A new medication called Solensia works very well for Flexo. It is very safe and given by injection every 4 weeks. Flexo used to limp. He is moving very well since his Solensia injections were started.

Great news - a new oral medication will be available to treat diabetes mellitus in cats. It might be suitable for patients without other conditions, who were diagnosed early and still feeling well.
There was a discussion on difficulties the owners go through, when treating cats with diabetes.

I have not seen "bad" areas in Malta. However, when I was taking a photo of this cat-feeding station, I was chased away by the emaciated-looking coloured men, who were lying on the stone walls of this decent town park in a respectable area. One of the men started shouting at me "what do you want". Another one started picking up little packets from the wall in a hurry.
Needless to say, I did not want to interact with those and rushed away 😲

I met this little owl in a referral centre, where I go for continuous professional training. The poor thing is only 2 months old. Unfortunately, he broke his wing. I was told that the wing will be surgically repaired

We had a little hedgehog in the clinic this week for a health check. Someone got concerned about the white paint on him and brought him in. We had to give the little fellow a bit of anaesthetic gas so he unrolled and we could check him over. Thankfully, we did not find any wounds on the hedgehog, his temperature and behaviour were normal so he was returned back to his garden.

Today is the International Day of Veterinary Medicine. Is not that wonderful that we have so many medicines and diagnostic tools to make our pets feel better when they are sick ! 😊

This is our new patient Boo. He is a very friendly and confident cat. However, if you touch Boo's paws or try to put a dose of Advocate onto Boo, he can turn into a wild mini-tiger, growling, hissing and swiping around.
I hope we stayed friends with Boo today, even though he was not impressed with some parts of his annual treatments :)

This little babe is only 4 weeks old. Her name is Pina. She was brought to us 2 days ago as she was not able to breath. She also had fever and stopped eating. We had to keep her on oxygen for the day, and treated her with antibiotics and very strong antiinflammatory medications.
Pina was rescued with her mam and her siblings of the street a few days ago. They are all in foster care now. The kittens have signs of cat flu. Pina's siblings are all sneezing but Pina got very sick. When a mammy-cat is vaccinated, she is passing protective immunity to her kittens with milk. In this family the kittens had no protection. We are all happy that little Pina is better now.
