There isn’t enough words to express how grateful we all are in Avenue Vets for this man.
To us he’s not only our boss but he is our mentor and friend. He has taught us all that we know and given us the confidence to succeed.
To our lovely clients he is the man that gave their puppy his/her first vaccine or fixed their sore leg and when it was time he was there for their final breath.
John, you have saved countless lives, fixed many a cruciate ligament and helped a struggling mother give birth to her puppies.
You once told us that you may have helped us grow our wings but it’s now time for us to learn how to fly on our own.
We are determined to strive and make you proud here in Avenue Vets.
We wish you a happy and healthy retirement no man on this earth deserves it as much as you do.
From all of us here at Avenue Vets and all the animals we thank you dearly.
Lots of love,
Your team❤️

The story of Timmy
Timmy was brought into our hospital this time last year with a very unclear history.
Over the next few days we unfortunately started to see what was going to unfold into the worst case we have seen so far.
He arrived very lethargic and had a high temperature , sadly we had very little to go off in terms of his history. We took bloods which told us that he had an infection of some sort. However within 2/3 days Timmy’s skin started to peel and he was in a great deal of pain. We immediately started an intensive care plan for Timmy to try and combat his pain to the best of our ability along with some healing bandages for his skin.
Each day for poor Timmy more and more of his skin started to peel off. At this point we were questioning whether or not he had some sort of chemical burn.
Timmy went through very intensive care with us for just short of 2 months. This included round the clock pain relief along with medications to help salvage his skin.
This case was very draining on all us including Timmy. It was very difficult every morning coming in and seeing this helpless kitten in so much pain. It was too painful to even eat or drink and he had to be fed with syringe every day along with being syringed water.
Things slowly but surely started to get progressively better for Timmy with the added care from Dr.Catarina who fell in love with him and most days/weekends he was at home recovering with her. We could finally start to see the skin heal as well as seeing the little guy growing into his own playful personality.
The bond between Dr.Catarina and Timmy was beautiful to watch and we have no doubt that it helped so much in his healing and becoming the beautiful cat he is today.
Timmy will live out his life happy and comfortable with Dr.Catarina and although this case was extremely difficult mentally for all us at the hospital, seeing him now and how much he is flourishing makes it all worth it❤️
🐇 Did you know that in rabbits the intravenous catheter is most commonly placed in their ear?
Here you can see Nurse Lynda placing an IV cannula into the marginal auricular vein! This rabbit was then going to be placed on intravenous fluid therapy 💧
🐱 FELINE FRIENDS 🐱
It is so important that our feline patients feel calm and safe when in our practice. We have a designated cat consult room filled with lovely calming pheromones and hiding places for when they get scared.
Here you can see the gorgeous Princess is very calm and loving the treats and cuddles 🥰 it’s very important we take our time with our feline patients and let them explore the room and get comfortable.
Did you know we have been awarded with a silver status for being a cat friendly clinic?🤩
This is Bella, she is 11 years old and presented to us after trying many different avenues to help alleviate her pain. She got to the point where she was struggling to walk and even resting was painful for her.
We decided to try Bella on a drug called Librela which is the first injectable monthly antibody therapy to alleviate osteoarthritis pain. This was our last chance to help Bella and improve her quality of life.
In the video above you can see Bella before her injection and then after receiving her Librela injection. She could finally walk up the stairs after 18 months🤩
Bella is still receiving her monthly injection and enjoying her walks every day 🐕
If you think your pet might be suffering from osteoarthritis, please book an appointment with one of our vets so we can get your pet started on their journey to a happier healthier life!
No pet should have to suffer from chronic pain❕
Some signs to looks out for include:
〰️Slowing down on walks
〰️Slow to get up after sleeping
〰️Feeling stiff
〰️Reluctant to jump
🚨 AVIAN FLU 🚨
🐦We are strongly advising our clients and members of the public NOT to handle sick/dead wild birds. It is also very important to ensure you keep your pets away from these birds.
🐦We have been advised that we CANNOT take in any sick/dead wild birds into our veterinary hospital. This is to ensure the safety of all our patients and also our staff as this is a zoonotic disease.
🐦If you do come across a sick/dead wild bird you should contact the DAFM disease helpline on 01 607 2512 (during office hours) or 01 492 8026 (out of office hours) to get advice.
🐦We understand that this may cause some inconvenience but our number one priority at this time has to be with our patients and our staff members.
🐦We hope you understand and hope you and your pets stay safe and alert on your walks.
🥰MEET BARLEY🥰
Barley presented to the hospital after being found in a field and was unable to walk. We performed an X-ray to see what was going on with him. Unfortunately for Barely he had a broken pelvis and femoral head. His personality came out after some much needed TLC from the team and we all fell in love with him and decided he deserved a new chance at life! A femoral head ostectomy was performed and he’s made a huge recovery!
All that he’s missing now is a home where he can show his wonderful personality and get all the cuddles he deserves❤️
Please contact us on 042-9339648 to arrange a time that suits to meet this miracle boy and try not to fall in love with him!
