⚠️ Red Weather Warning ⚠️
Ireland is currently facing a Red Weather Warning tomorrow due to severe weather conditions.

We will be closed on Friday, January 24th.
For the safety of our team and your dogs, all walks, classes, and training appointments are canceled on Friday. Saturday and Sunday classes will be subject to postponement, as well.

As conditions are potentially unsafe due to winds which may result in fallen trees and power lines, destruction to property, flying debris, and road blockages, it may be best to skip your own dog walks tomorrow, too.

Keeping your dog entertained indoors:

* Scentwork: Hide treats around the house and let your dog sniff them out!

* Trick Training: Teach your dog a new trick like "spin," "bow," or "high five."

* Basic Obedience: Practice sit, stay, and come indoors.

* Busy Boxes: Fill a box with toys, treats, and chews for your dog to snuffle to keep them mentally stimulated.

* Puppy Ping Pong: Play a game of recall with your family by calling your dog back and forth between you to find each person.

* Join me TOMORROW at 1:15 PM on Zoom for a 20-minute introduction to scentwork!

KATHRYN JONES IS COMING TO MAYO!

I am really excited to be able to announce that Kathryn Jones will be coming here at the end of May and her advanced mantrailing workshops are now open for booking. They are single days, stand alone workshops however you can book more than one day if you wish.
There are handler spots where you can work your own dog and very limited spectator spots for those who would prefer to watch. This would be a great CPD opportunity for instructors and perfect for anyone who is actively mantrailing and would like some expert advice on how to progress their dog.

Kathryn Jones is an experienced Mantrailing Sports Instructor who has been training in the UK and Internationally for five years, having been a professional in the canine industry for the past ten years. Starting as a Mantrailing Global Instructor in 2019, and then as a Head Instructor for the organisation from 2020 until 2023, teaching not only dog owners but other mantrailing instructors and those becoming instructors.
In 2023 Kathryn niched fully into Mantrailing in its many forms, and has the opportunity to teach all over the UK and Internationally.
She continues to work with industry leaders bringing science based learning, latest updates and a fantastic experience.
Kathryn has earned a reputation for excellence by investing in her knowledge as an instructor and handler. Having completed the Scent Imprint for Dogs Level 2 Tracking and Trailing, and had the opportunity to track with Ilkka Hormilla at Global K9, she is always expanding her knowledge to pass on to others.
Working with teams across the UK and internationally Kathryn has committed to helping all mantrailing teams thrive in the sport. She offers a tailored and supportive coaching style using an extensive background as a Canine Behaviourist and Rescue Dog owner, specialising in high drive breeds and dogs with bite histories. She uses her knowledge to help dog owners really understand their dogs behaviour when mantrailing to create a more harmonious team.
Based in North Wales, Kathryn runs Trailing K9s and has worked with Mantrailing Sports teams across the UK, Ireland and USA, frequently offering online coaching to students and instructors across the Globe through her online mentoring and members group on Patreon, offering the first online Mantrailing knowledge hub.
Kathryn Jones has an FdSc in Applied Animal Behaviour, was an NTIPDU Instructor and Handler for Detection and Protection dogs, was previously a Mantrailing Global Instructor and is currently a Level 2 Scent Imprint for Dogs Tracking/Trailing Instructor, but she continues to pursue in person learning at workshops and through online education to stay ahead with the latest advancements in the science behind how dogs process scent and the teaching ethics.

As you can see we are very lucky to have someone as experienced as Kathryn coming here to teach. I did a Mantrailing Spaniels day with her last year and loved it so much I actually went over to Wales on the ferry so I could do some more training with her.

What is Treibball, exactly?
Treibball is a herding game where the dog pushes exercise balls toward you into a goal. They need to follow your directions on which ball to push. It is a fantastic outlet for herding behaviours and suitable for all dogs who enjoy a fun activity with their humans!

Hi everyone!! Happy New Year! This month, I am hosting Caroline of Dogsercise to come to Dublin (Rathfarnham) for some canine fitness and sport intro workshops. There will be both a trainer and owner day.

Trainer day:
"Focus for Saturday is on how to incorporate sports skills into general training/behaviour work with clients to provide enrichment, outlets for dog specific behaviours and improve communication/relationship between dog and handler. I want to inspire you to be creative, foster curiosity in your clients and have fun with essential skills/exercises that enhance every dog’s physical and mental wellbeing."

Owner day:
Focus for Sunday is building sports foundations, introduction to treibball, and scent detection. This is a great way to try out a few different activities in one day and see what your dog enjoys.

I'd love to see some of you there if you're interested - there are both handler and spectator spaces on both days.

Meet Brandi!

Brandi is a 1 year old miniature Dachshund. I met Brandi in July when her mam got in touch due to some reactive and fearful behaviours. They wanted to help Brandi get back to her previous happy self.

When I met them, I could see Brandi was anxious, but I was also concerned about potential pain issues, so I referred them to the vet. We also began working on some coping skills and setting up her walks to be more successful.

The vet discovered some medical issues that required pain medication and she has since been referred onto a specialist for further investigation. They prescribed a pain trial as well as some medication for her anxiety.

She then joined us for Scent Detection classes and has come on leaps and bounds! She now initiates interest in dogs she feels are safe and will greet humans happily and without barking constantly.

This multimodal approach has been fantastic for Brandi's case. There is still some work and progress to come, but she is a superstar!

Overall she is a much happier girl thanks to her people for advocating for her and supporting her to feel more comfortable 💚

I am so proud of Team Brandi and can't wait to see their further success in 2025!
