I just want to thank all my clients and patients for allowing me to be part of their lives over the last year. I am very thankful to have some of the most amazing, caring clients and the most naughty but perfect patients.

Ill be taking some time off this year. I won't be opening my books for new patients until January 31st. I will still be available via WhatsApp for any existing clients. Just shoot me a text and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Happy a wonderful Christmas and an amazing new year to you all!

Poor bid is up at ucd vet hospital today to have some tests done. Please say a little prayer for her. We won't be able to collect her until tomorrow. Also a big thank you to her usual vet SiobhΓ‘n.. I know how difficult it is to clip a straight line with so much excess skin so fair play you didn't do too bad! πŸ˜‚

For those who don't know, my own horses are both barefoot and have been their entire lives. However I've also had horses that would never have been sound barefoot so needed shoes.

Would I shoe my horses ever again? Absolutely! If they needed shoes I have no problem with getting shoes put on. I don't think as a physio there is a right or wrong answer here. We need to realise that there will always some horses that need shoes to stay sound and some that don't.

We also need to take into Consideration the surfaces the horse is worked on. Are there lots of turns on grass which is slipper than an artificial surface in some instances?

This is a great article from the Swedish farrier who works with the 2 barefoot horses that were part of the olympic showjumping gold medal team.

The Swedish Olympic Show Jumping Team farrier, Peter Glimberg, shares how the Gold Medal Team's hooves are managed for elite competition--barefoot.

Update on the horse from Friday. He's feeling much better today. Still lame on his left fore but feels amazing in that right hind where he was having spasms a few days ago. He should be well on the road to recovery now

30/07/2021

A really interesting case yesterday, this horse was found in the field unable to walk on his hind legs, he was a little tender the day before due to being shod recently (normal for him) . I was called out to have a look. I suggested the farrier also be called.

When the farrier arrived he found a hoof access in the left fore hoof. This video shows the muscle spasms he had in his right flank as a result.

This is the perfect example of referred pain. Sometimes if your pet or horse is showing symptoms in one area the actual cause might be in another. The same horse is a usual patient of mine who because of a shoulder injury during his racing career now sometimes gets SI pain.

His abcess is being treated and I used myofascial release on his flank to give him some relief and seeing him back this weekend to do laeer and possibly PMFT.

Seriously lad, I am honestly so excited to be presenting at the IVNAs first virtual Congress on the 23rd of this month. I'm showing nurses how to offer even more care to their patients and more advice to the owners. For the nurses that follow me are going then hopefully I will see you all there! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³
