Yesterday we were invited to Photography Club to talk to the students about the importance of respecting wildlife when taking photos and doing a live photoshoot demonstration. We were joined by the wonderfully talented who shared his expertise in the area whilst simultaneously taking some beautiful photos on the school grounds. A massive thank you to Sligo Grammar and the students for having us and to Gavin for overseeing our little lady's first photograph! 🦅

A few days ago we got a call-out for a hedgehog and baby that had gone into an unfortunately-shaped pipe/drain and needed to be removed. This little fella was retrieved and hopefully has now given space to the parent who was in further and unreachable to reverse out to safety. In the meantime, we're looking after him and feeding him up until he's strong enough to be returned to the wild. As you can see, he has a great appetite, so this is looking promising! 🦔

Officially, the tiniest rescue we've had so far! This young pipistrelle was brought into our care recently, and we're delighted that he was even seen given his tiny size! We're feeding him up and keeping him safe and warm as he grows and gains his strength for release. Safe recovery for little Bruce 🦇

Alex was a guest on this afternoon to discuss our swan rescue from Doorly Park yesterday. We're delighted to see this issue being raised and discussed, and hopefully, it will enlighten those preciously unaware of the dangers careless fishing management can cause.

You can listen in to the discussion on ocean fm's page 🦢

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS when you're careless and irresponsible with your fishing gear - animals needlessly suffer. We got several calls and messages about a swan at Doorly Park this morning who had a fishing hook lodged in under her wing and was bleeding profusely. Swans can be incredibly hard to catch, but luckily she was out of the water when we arrived and was seen to very quickly. It took two men to hold her steady and calm while Alex had to cut out the hook and apply a disinfectant and pressure to stop the bleeding. Thankfully, the bleeding stopped and after some time we felt she was ready to return to the water. This is the SECOND call-out we've had for a swan needlessly injured by a fish hook in the last few weeks. It's horrible to see, horrible to have to remove and horrible to think that it will likely happen again. PLEASE CONSIDER THE WILDLIFE AROUND YOU WHILE YOU'RE FISHING and stop leaving dangerous objects in their home! 🦢

Good news update. Our little "Drain Hedgehog" from our previous post made a great recovery and is now back in the wild where he belongs. Hopefully he will remember to stay clear of drains from now on.

This poor Hedgehog fell and got stuck in a drainpipe. Luckily it wasn't raining and we were able to rescue him in time. He must have been there sitting in the water for quite a while, as he was very weak and near death.
Fortunately, after treatment and warming up under the infra red heat lamp he was strong enough to tuck into some food.
We will keep him and strengthen him up until he is ready to return to the wild.
Please note that even the smallest thing like a missing cover can have a detrimental impact on our wildlife.

SLIGO LOCALS, WE NEED YOUR HELP! There is a swan with a fishing hook stuck in its mouth at Doorly Park and it won't survive unless we get it in our care. For this, we need numbers and even better if there is someone with a boat to assist with the rescue! We will be meeting at 11am tomorrow at the jetty to try and catch him and remove the hook and tend to his injuries. If you can't help or make it to Doorly Park, please share this post, we'd be extremely appreciative! 🦢
