Lots of horses here loved a “drop of Guinness” over the years 🤣

Summer is in full swing and it's only going to get hotter! ☀️

Unfortunately, some of our equine friends struggle to sweat properly in the summer heat, which can put them at an increased risk of heat stress.

Though there is limited evidence in regard to effective treatments for horses diagnosed with anhidrosis (the inability to sweat properly), there are a few therapies that have been proposed to help, including offering horses dark beer!

Overall, watch closely for signs of heat stress if your horse is diagnosed with anhidrosis. During the summer months, monitor your horse's response to the heat and ensure they are sweating an appropriate amount. If you have concerns about your horse's ability to sweat, please contact your veterinarian.

Thank you to the Horse Owner Education Committee for providing this information.

Throwback to yesteryear… many moons ago

Before the indoor and outdoor arenas 😅

Talitha didn’t “lick it off the ground” you know 🤣

Priscilla Diamond

An oldie I came across lately, taken many moons ago; once upon a time we had no outdoor arena here and used to bring down poles/barrels/wings etc to the beach and set up there, it was a race against the tide every time, which added to the fun!

Here I am with Roger, I think this picture was taken circa 1994 from what I remember. He was a lovely boy that loved to jump. ❤️🐴

Je T’aime Flamenco was one of the most influential and desirable jumping stallions that has stood in the UK over recent years. A son of Flamenco De Semilly and bred in Belgium by Michel Spaas.
Born in 2000, he was imported to the UK by Penny Cornish as a 5-year-old.
He was then purchased for Billy Twomey by the late Eddie & Sue Davies. Je T’aime Flamenco rapidly became a star among Billy’s string of horses. Winning the GP at HOYS at only 8 years old, it was obvious that he was going to have a glittering competition career. Among his accolades, were seven international Grand Prix wins, three at five-star level.

His rider Billy Twomey described him as a “clear round machine”.

Je T’aime Flamenco first came to Stallion AI Services back in 2006, which was just the beginning of both his competition career and as a sire.
Awarded the BWP Ambassador accolade, Je T’aime Flamenco is known for his exceptional fertility and proven as a reliable producer of top-class stock. His offspring have competed in the Nations Cup, Global Champions, and Eventing. His son Fellow Castlefield helped Australia to secure Olympic qualification for Paris.

Being such an easy horse, he frequently starred as the demo stallion in Stallion AI Services famous webinars and was the first stallion to ever be shown doing a collection live on Facebook streaming.
He was a loveable stallion with a cheeky charm and was known to pop his head around the door of the office for a sneaky treat on his way to the paddock.
“Stallions come and go, but there is no doubt about it, Je T’aime Flamenco is a name that is here to stay, and it's been an honour to have him with us and be part of his journey.” Tullis Matson, Stallion AI Services.

Our thoughts are with his owner Janette Chinn and the amazing people who have loved and cared for him throughout his life.

Michael Jackson & George Hamilton watching as Liz Taylor adjusts the cinch on a racehorse ❤ Liz had a lifelong affinity with Race Horses

In the film "National Velvet," Taylor portrays the character of Velvet Brown, a young girl who takes on the challenge of training a horse for the Grand National Steeplechase. In a surprising turn of events, she disguises herself as a male jockey and rides the horse to a remarkable victory. Many of the memorable scenes from this movie were actually filmed at Santa Anita Park, located in Southern California.
As Taylor's life progressed, she developed a fondness for Thoroughbred races and attended several events in both Europe and the United States. One notable occasion was when she was photographed alongside her third husband, Mike Todd, and their friends Eddie Fisher and his wife Debbie Reynolds at Epsom Downs on Derby Day in 1957.

Furthermore, Taylor had the opportunity to witness the 1968 Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in Paris, accompanied by her fifth husband Richard Burton, Maria Callas, and Peter O'Toole.

Interestingly, another one of Taylor's husbands, John Warner, who was a Virginia politician, had a passion for horses as well. They resided on his Atoka Farm near Loudoun County, Va., and were captured in a photograph taken at the Washington D.C. International Stakes held at Laurel Park.

In 1986, Taylor was seen alongside her close friend, the late pop star Michael Jackson, during the opening day festivities at Hollywood Park. During the same year, she and actor George Hamilton visited Lexington with Marj Everett, the chief operating officer of Hollywood Park. They were invited as guests by the officers of Keeneland and the Breeders' Cup.

During her visit, Taylor had the honor of presenting the inaugural Beaumont Stakes trophy to trainer Joe Bollero, who guided Classy Cathy to a well-deserved victory.
Interestingly, this was not Taylor's first visit to Lexington. She had previously been to Central Kentucky three decades earlier during the filming of "Raintree County" in 1956.
