Another day, another Collie, abandoned to her fate by some heartless individual.💔

Freya was found dumped along with two young puppies, alone and terrified in a strange environment, probably their first time away from the farm, their first time in a car, and for all we know, their first time out of the dark & dirty shed that they called home. 🥺

We know they were dumped as their coats are matted with animal dung, indicating long days & nights in a stable or shed, and they were all absolutely terrified of everyone and everything!

We think Freya might be the mother, or an older sibling of the two puppies, which sadly indicates an unregulated situation which may provide more pups in the months to come. 🥺

Luckily these puppies are being minded by the kind people that found them, and the warden brought Freya straight out to us earlier on today. Right now, we are taking things very slow, giving Freya time to adjust to her new surroundings and process all that has happened. This poor girl is still traumatised, but hopefully in time we can build up her trust in humans and replace the nasty baling twine around her neck with a lovely soft collar from where her new bright & shiny name tag will hang.🐾

***WARNING***

While we all love to see the sunshine 😎🌞 we can't emphasise enough the dangers of exercising your dogs in hot weather.

Please remember that dogs can't self-regulate their temperatures. It is our duty to protect them from the heat. If you have any queries or concerns please ring your local vet. Remember, Irish dogs are not accustomed to hot weather.

Heatstroke can hit quickly and it can be deadly, please don't assume it won't happen to your dog.

Older dogs, overweight dogs, dogs with a badly matted coat and brachycephalic dogs are at an increased risk during hot weather.

Some tips to help keep your dog cool 👉👉👉

🔷️Keep your dogs indoors, somewhere cool with access to water.

🔷️ When outside, ensure they have access to shade and water

🔷️Freeze some treat filled Kongs or Lickimats for them, get creative!

🔷️Leave out a damp blanket for them to lie on or get them a cooling mat (supervised, if your dog is a chewer)

🔷️ Don't leave them in the car

🔷️When weather is really hot, only walk your dogs early in the morning and late in the evening. If it's hot at those times then please skip the walk.

Some signs of heat stress 👉👉👉

🔷️Excessive panting and short of breath

🔷️Excessive drooling

🔷️Changes in gum color or tongue (bright or dark red)

🔷️Elevated body temperature

🔷️Increased pulse and heartbeat

🔷️Excessive thirst

🔷️Disorientation, stumbling or weakness

🔷️Vomiting

Please use common sense and don't put your dogs at risk.
