21/01/2025

During we are talking about dental problems in dogs and cats. Periodontal disease occurs when the tissues that surround teeth become infected and inflamed. Bacterial plaque build-up on the teeth causes inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) if not removed. Over time, infection and inflammation spread deeper into the tooth sockets, destroying the bone around the tooth roots – meaning teeth may need to be extracted (if they haven’t already fallen out!).

The good news is that plaque can be removed with daily dental home care, and gingivitis can be reversed if caught early. Speak to us about the best dental care regime for your pet to help keep their teeth clean and healthy

Let's talk about dog worms- Dog worms, including nematodes and cestodes, pose a persistent threat to dogs. Ascarids, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms are common, potentially leading to gastrointestinal issues, malnutrition, and a decline in overall health.

💡Some tips for you or to share with your customers:

1️⃣ Routine is Key: establish a regular worming schedule based on the dog's age, lifestyle, and risk factors.

2️⃣ Tailored Treatment: Not all worming medications are created equal. Opt for a trusted solution like DV8 Worm tablets, specifically formulated to tackle a variety of nematodes and cestodes.

3️⃣ Dosage Matters: Follow the recommended dosage guidelines meticulously.

4️⃣ Clean Living Spaces: Maintain a clean environment to minimise the risk of reinfestation. Regularly clean the dog's bedding, toys, and living areas to create a parasite-free zone.

5️⃣ Know the Enemy: Familiarise with common parasites like ascarids, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms. Awareness is the first step towards effective prevention and treatment.

6️⃣ Vet Consultation: Consult your veterinarian to tailor a worming plan based on your dog's unique needs.

7️⃣ Monitor Symptoms: Keep an eye out for signs of worm infestation such as changes in appetite, weight loss, vomiting, or diarrhea. Early detection is crucial for prompt intervention.

8️⃣ Preventive Measures: Consider preventive measures in high-risk situations, such as exposure to other animals or environments where parasites thrive. A proactive approach is the key to a healthy, happy dog.

⭐DV8 Worm:
Consider DV8 Worm tablets carefully formulated solution, containing Praziquantel, Pyrantel embonate, and Fenbendazole, targets a broad spectrum of nematodes and cestodes.

January is weight loss awareness month for Pets

pets face significant health risks when they carry extra weight. Obesity in pets can lead to:
👉Joint Pain and Mobility Issues: Excess weight puts undue pressure on joints, increasing the risk of arthritis.
👉Heart and Respiratory Problems: Carrying extra pounds makes it harder for pets to breathe and for their hearts to function efficiently.
👉Diabetes: Overweight pets are at a much higher risk of developing diabetes, which requires lifelong management.
👉Reduced Lifespan: Studies show that maintaining a healthy weight can extend a pet’s life by up to two years.

Here are some tips to help your pet shed those extra pounds:

✅ Measure Meals: Avoid overfeeding by following recommended portion sizes. Use high-quality, portion-controlled pet food—available at DugganVetPortal.ie.
✅ Healthy Treats: Choose low-calorie, nutrient-packed treats. Check out our range of guilt-free options at DugganVetPortal.ie.
✅ Playtime Counts as Exercise: Keep your pet active with engaging toys from our extensive toy range
✅ Regular Walks & Play: Daily walks or interactive play with stimulating toys can help burn calories and keep pets entertained.
