Kenmare Stables

Kenmare Stables Family run livery and training yard. Back in business after a 10 years hiatus in new purpose build premises in a professional and friendly setting.

My formative years were spent in France where I achieved the then "Eperon d'Argent" diploma of the FFE and competed in official competitions in Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing and trained to be an instructor. I moved to Ireland in the early 90's and worked as an instructor before the eventing bug got into me to the point that I concentrated solely on training young horses and competed. I also s

tudied with University Limerick and was in the first promotion to complete the Diploma in Equine Sciences through distance education (while working for Lisbeg Farms when Andrew Bourns was a junior rider!). I then settled in Kenmare, county Kerry for good and started my own yard, in rented premises. This lasted until 10 years ago when my growing family's needs made it too difficult to continue without compromising standards. Then ponies made an appearance, Pony Club called ( I was DC for the Kingdom branch from 2014 to 2017) and here we are! This time based at home with the more mature realisation that horses and Equestrian Sport is my life's great passion. I also realised that I enjoy passing on whatever knowledge filtered during my trials and tribulations, and want to help riders and their equine partners achieve their true potential.

For the love of horses! How did we get to this situation????
Time for action. Democratic, from the ground up action. I am sick and tired of feeling ashamed of the way the sport I love is represented. In the troubling times we live in, with the constant eroding of our equestrian pursuits in all forms of media, the lack of support from the Irish government, a dysfunctional governing body is the last thing we need!
My feelings are growing from constant frustration to serious fear over the future of horse sports in Ireland.
It is time for a serious shake up! Tear it down and start again. Less of the "promoting" and more of the support and development.
Instead of letting the media run with all the bad news stories, why don't we ( equestrians of all walks of life, of the 4 corners of the Island) take the lead and explain why we deserve help and support? Why are horses so important to us? There's now a disconnect with the wider public. Let's speak from the heart and explain it.
I'll start the movement by saying horses in my life, have tought me more life lessons and helped me develop more life skills, applicable to any sphere, (be it health, physical development, technical skills, work ethics, communication, emotional resilience) than any formal education program I followed. I can think of another hundred reasons beside this statement to explain why horses are so important to me but let's hear your reasons. We need to turn the tide, save our way of life, save our sport.
Please comment below and share! Let me know I am not alone feeling this way, let me know horse sports are worth fighting for!

Thank you everyone for the calls and messages about Rocky. I'm really sorry to disapoint so many. I never realised he would generate so much interest !!🙈

While flattered by the interest in our little Rocky, I can't deal with the barrage of calls and messages! Anyone who eould like to rwgister an interest, why dont you send me a whatsapp message with name, number, location, age of rider, expectations, parent's horsemanship knowledge and stabling setup? I will go through them this evening and a decision will be reached. Sorry in advance for disapointed families.

⭐Lucinda's Words of Wisdom⭐

'Putting your horse in the tube' is a feeling of cuddling your horse's sides with both your legs.

Have the feeling that his eyeballs are attached, each one to each of your calves and you use those calves to direct/focus him as you keep him in the tube (the cuddle).

The cuddle should not be hard work - you can ride in it all day. That is not to say that there are not moments when the cuddle speedily metamorphoses into a serious squeeze or a good old Pony Club kick or three.

Another stunning stroll with eldest on Fred and myself on Pixie. Cutest set of ears to frame the views... the picture doesn't do it justice, you can only guess the blue of the Kenmare Bay in the distance. Both horses actually stopped and stared, still as statues as transfixed as we were. Little magic moments of mutual appreciation.
