Little Oak Equestrian Centre Prosperous

Little Oak Equestrian Centre Prosperous We are a family run yard that offers up a host of services for you and your horse. We are set on a 10 acre site with an additional 16 acres field for grazing.
(30)

We have livery to suit all budgets, riding school lessons for every level and pony camps to keep the kids entertained - Little Oak has it all. Anne Creevey is the owner and qualified BHS instructor for the yard. Anne has been a qualified instructor for over 7 years now but has spent her whole life working with horses. She trained with well-respected trainer Grainne Sugars and expanded her training

while travelling around Australia. She has experience and knowledge of all breads and backgrounds from happy hackers to competition thoroughbreds. We hope you enjoy visiting our website and we look forward to seeing you at the yard soon!

What a fantastic first week of pony camp! ๐Ÿฆ„

Really well done to all our campers, who worked really hard and rode like the wind. They finished the week by beautifying their ponies, bringing out their creativity. Really looking forward to the rest of the summer's camps ๐ŸŒž Massive thank you to all our wonderful helpers.

Anne and Lisa took Cappuccino and Bosco to the Ballyfoyle Agricultural Show in Kilkenny to enter the Racehorse to Riding Horse classes, cappuccino took it all in his stride in the big atmosphere, Lisa and Bosco entered their very first race horse to riding horse show, Bosco loved showing off and brought home a pink ribbon ๐Ÿฉท a very long day but a great experience for all ๐Ÿฆ„

They are never just RIDING SCHOOL PONIESโค๏ธ๐Ÿด

One day you may move onto bigger, fancier horses, but never forget the school horse who made you, as without them, you wouldnโ€™t be able to ride anything at all.

The patient soul that tolerated your bouncing while you figured out how to sit the trot.

The kind mare that didnโ€™t walk off when you stumbled up the mounting block, trying to get your foot in the stirrup.

The sweet gelding that picked up the trot even though your body was telling him to do the exact opposite.

The saintly angel that never spooked, which was a dam good thing because your balance was precarious at best.

Too often we forget where we came from. We move on to the next chapter in our lives and say, โ€œOh my gosh, Iโ€™m learning so much! Iโ€™m going so far! I could never do this kind of thing on that old school horse!โ€

But infact you could, you were just not ready to do all these things back then.

But that school horse gave you the confidence to move forward. That school horse took care of you in all respects and allowed you to take the time you needed to find your way. You couldnโ€™t have become the rider you are today without that riding school horse, always remember to love them unconditionally for our riding school horses are what help start your dream, make dreams come true and get you ready for those bigger dreams ๐Ÿด

Love this โค๏ธโค๏ธ

One of my biggest frustrations in this industry is the lack of understanding and consideration for the role that Riding School horses play. So often, I see riders complaining about Riding School horses for a huge variety of reasons: for their perceived lack of quality or value, for having to ride one they donโ€™t like, for not getting to ride the one they do like, for their establishment not having enough Riding School horses, or for the Riding School horses not being available at their convenience. Riding school horses not being good enough for them. Iโ€™ve dealt with all of the above and I know Iโ€™ll continue to do so, but I think itโ€™s important that people understand the reality of Riding School horses, and thatโ€™s that they arenโ€™t here for you/your kid to ride forever and climb the levels with your one lesson a week fortnightly commitment.

Theyโ€™re here to get you started, safely and productively, while you decide just how far you want to take this.

Riding School horses are incredibly special creatures. They have to be easily caught by beginners who donโ€™t know how to properly approach a prey animal.

They have to stand like statues on the crossties while tiny kids take the better part of an hour to get them clean.

They have to hold their head still while beginners jam the bit into their teeth for the fiftieth time in a row to put the bridle on.

They have to stand still at the mounting block while someone stands for too long with all their weight in the left stirrup and then slams down on their back with no consideration for their comfort.

They tolerantly teach riders who are unbalanced, uncoordinated, and unclear, who catch their mouths and bounce on their backs and kick at their sides, and every single time, they are expected to just come again without so much as a swish of their tail or pinning of their ears.

And any time one of these horses has a moment where they act like a regular horse or force the rider to really ride, theyโ€™re labeled annoying or rude or bad or lazy or whatever.

Riding School horses are not intended to take you up the levels and jump big jumps and win all the classes. If these horses were this beginner-friendly and this tolerant AND the hack winner with an auto lead change, you couldnโ€™t afford them!

Thatโ€™s not to say these horses canโ€™t be winners if you ride them well and pull your weight, but their ability to win in the show ring is not where their real value lies.

Riding School horses exist to bring new riders into the sport. To teach them the ropes and get them started, lay a foundation and prepare them to make a bigger commitment to the sport by leasing or purchasing the next step horse.

Riding School horses are not responsible for chasing your Olympic dreams for you.

Theyโ€™re responsible for getting them started in the first place.

For riders to act like a Riding School horse isnโ€™t valuable because he isnโ€™t the winner in any company or harder to ride is ignorant and unfair.

Every horse you ride has something to teach you. Whether itโ€™s the crotchety old school pony who likes to root when youโ€™re not paying attention, or the younger lesson horse who will only pick up the right lead if you ask *just right*, or the ultra reliable skip-change king, they all will add to your toolkit that you can one day apply to the fancier model you get to take you to the next level after yout Riding Scool Journey.

Donโ€™t forget about all the lessons you learn along the way and remember that without Riding School horses, you wouldnโ€™t be riding at all!

Riding School owners are trying their best to provide the best services they can and keep the Riding School horses in the good condition. Horses are extremely expensive not just to buy but to keep aswell. Utilities, Mortgage/Rent, Vets bills, Feed, Haylage, Bedding, Vaccinations, Farrier, Wormers, Staff Wages, Physio, Saddler and so much more the list is endless no one sees how much it all costs to keep a yard running, no one sees full behind the scenes.

They are trying the best they can, it's not just a job to them it's their world their passion and the Riding School horses are their babies they are their family.

Great fun this week!!

Thank you to Kate for organising our in house derby on Sunday. Well done to everyone who took part, great to see everyone enjoying their horses and setting themselves challenges. Great experience for us all!

Nice to see our golden oldies havenโ€™t forgotten anything especially that the best grass is in Anneโ€™s garden ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Madeline and fluer went to ciolog last week for pony club camp! Was great fun and great experience and doing cross country for the first time and sj and delighted to receive a rosette ๐Ÿต๏ธ from treo_eile! Fantastic to see this pair getting on so well, no stopping them now.

Sparky and avril having the best time in racefield for their ride outs, highly recommend, great fun for you and your horse!

Tara and Ellie did their first 1.10 in emerald equestrian on Wednesday. This pair have gone from strength to strength. Absolutely love this mare๐Ÿฆ„ Well done tara, great to see your hard work paying off ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

At home the weather hasnโ€™t dampened our spirits making great plans for the summer months. Camps are in full swing so apologies for the delay in getting back to anyone ๐Ÿ˜Š
