Another verrrrrry busy camp!!
Huge thanks to Zach, Niamh, Freya & Marylou who did a great job keeping everyone busy!
That’s a wrap for the summer now I think , looking at the weather 😎
So now we’ve 2 weeks of just private lessons to rotate a break for all the ponies before the September term starts up.
We’ve Ruth Wiseman back on board and are welcoming a few from Ironhills so bear with me ….this week I will contact everyone with confirmation of day and times of lessons and guide everyone through our online booking system and the cancellation system that goes with it!
We’ll start the term from September 9th (bookings to be confirmed by September 1st as I’ve a waiting list) with my instructors as Ruth is on holiday, then she’ll be here the following week by which time we’ll know for sure which rider suits which pony/horse if they are new here.
If I haven’t messaged anybody by Wednesday, please get in touch.
Thanks 🤩

This week we all sadly had to say goodbye to Devine. She was 26 years young but old age was catching up on her and it was the right time. She fell asleep with her ears forward after spending her final hour bunching grass with her “hubby” of 8 years, Beau after a weekend of pampering.
The lovely kids on my yard surprised me with these gifts, including a gorgeous hand drawn card of her and the photo with some of her tail inside ❤️
A group hug definitely needed, I was genuinely so surprised and touched by such a kind thought.
Thanks so much to our lovely Copper Beech helpers - Ava, Molly, Amy, Haylie,Sophie, Tori & Nevaeh. Xx

Robbed from a friend who is a horse woman and fab coach . True words 💪🐴
My theory …..confidence, in horse and rider.
It’s easy lost and hard to find once lost!
My kids were prob totally bored at lower levels until their ponies learnt to ignore any wild questions, and they trusted each other enough to move up 😉😂❤️

Let’s talk about the lack of quality coaching and lack of standards in the equine industry. For example, kids learning with someone who claims to be an "coach" and all they learned is how to see-saw a horse's head down and chuck their body over a fence like a champion. All coaching is not equal.

But what happens when you have a good coach? One that opens their program to you, takes you under his/her wing? Becomes invested in your success? When you essentially become part of the "family"...

Eventually, something will happen...

Coach tells you that you are not Karen O'Connor 2.0, and not ready to make the move up to the next level.
Coach says you need to go back and fix some holes in your training.
Coach says you have developed a bad habit, and it needs to be fixed before you can accomplish your goals.
Coach says you need to make sure that your horse is being ridden (not just hanging out at the barn).
Coach says you need to dedicate more time to studying the sport, not just riding.
Coach says it isn't a "horse" problem, it is a "you" problem.

People have become increasingly more reactionary. More easily offended. In lieu of everyone getting a trophy, it is so hard to hear these words from people you admire. Some of the best coaches will be the toughest. Not ones that tear you apart constantly, but coaches that aren't afraid to have the tough conversations with you. Or conversations that you may not have wanted to have.

But remember, a good coach is in YOUR corner. They want YOU to achieve success. They dedicate so much more than an hour of time to your growth not only as a rider but as a horseman. Maybe you are burning the candle at both ends (and in the middle), and you need a reality check that this sport requires more of your time and focus.

These conversations can hurt, but while it may sting at first.... take a second. Think about why your coach is against you moving up right now, why your coach is saying to wait until the summer to be a working student, why your coach is saying that you should not enter the show until the homework and flat work is done.

Surround yourself with coaches that aren't afraid to have these tough conversations with you. You don't want or need a "cheerleader" coach. You are paying you for your coach’s expertise... the positives and the criticism. Let them help make the best decisions for your horse, and for your program. The lessons on the horse and the lessons off of the horse. Are you ready? Are you doing what is best by your horse? You owe it to yourself and your horse....

So we’re here in Cavan, RDS qualifiers and poles down! Definitely not the end of the world 😂
Because when i walk out into the lorry we’ve cheap pics of all the horses and ponies that have been part of the journey. And the one thing they all have in common is a huge heart. 🥰
You absolutely can’t beat it! So we may not have had the biggest of budgets but we bought the ones that said “bring it on”!! There’s an art to them jumping clear, but that’s our job to see if they need room in front of a fence etc..etc.. And we usually master it….in time 😂
In racing, showjumping or whatever in life , I think a partner in crime who is working with you because they want to is worth plenty. I’m so grateful for all the legends in our life that we’ve been lucky enough to have, and the ones we’re currently working with. A big heart in a horse or pony is absolutely priceless 😍
These pics reeeeeeaaally make me smile, every time I see them 💜
Because every single one of have had a huge impact on my kids lives .x

100 % This!
I love my schoolie horses and ponies and if anyone gives them a 4/5 on my booking site I’m shocked and message to ask them why !! Ridden correctly they are all amazing, ridden incorrectly and they still usually pull it out of the bag when they don’t need to ….even when given the wrong instructions to do something, or the rider is loose or unbalanced😉❤️
Absolute legends , every single one of them 🥰

One of my biggest frustrations in this industry is the lack of understanding and consideration for the role that Riding School horses play. So often, I see riders complaining about Riding School horses for a huge variety of reasons: for their perceived lack of quality or value, for having to ride one they don’t like, for not getting to ride the one they do like, for their establishment not having enough Riding School horses, or for the Riding School horses not being available at their convenience. Riding school horses not being good enough for them. I’ve dealt with all of the above and I know I’ll continue to do so, but I think it’s important that people understand the reality of Riding School horses, and that’s that they aren’t here for you/your kid to ride forever and climb the levels with your one lesson a week fortnightly commitment.

They’re here to get you started, safely and productively, while you decide just how far you want to take this.

Riding School horses are incredibly special creatures. They have to be easily caught by beginners who don’t know how to properly approach a prey animal.

They have to stand like statues on the crossties while tiny kids take the better part of an hour to get them clean.

They have to hold their head still while beginners jam the bit into their teeth for the fiftieth time in a row to put the bridle on.

They have to stand still at the mounting block while someone stands for too long with all their weight in the left stirrup and then slams down on their back with no consideration for their comfort.

They tolerantly teach riders who are unbalanced, uncoordinated, and unclear, who catch their mouths and bounce on their backs and kick at their sides, and every single time, they are expected to just come again without so much as a swish of their tail or pinning of their ears.

And any time one of these horses has a moment where they act like a regular horse or force the rider to really ride, they’re labeled annoying or rude or bad or lazy or whatever.

Riding School horses are not intended to take you up the levels and jump big jumps and win all the classes. If these horses were this beginner-friendly and this tolerant AND the hack winner with an auto lead change, you couldn’t afford them!

That’s not to say these horses can’t be winners if you ride them well and pull your weight, but their ability to win in the show ring is not where their real value lies.

Riding School horses exist to bring new riders into the sport. To teach them the ropes and get them started, lay a foundation and prepare them to make a bigger commitment to the sport by leasing or purchasing the next step horse.

Riding School horses are not responsible for chasing your Olympic dreams for you.

They’re responsible for getting them started in the first place.

For riders to act like a Riding School horse isn’t valuable because he isn’t the winner in any company or harder to ride is ignorant and unfair.

Every horse you ride has something to teach you. Whether it’s the crotchety old school pony who likes to root when you’re not paying attention, or the younger lesson horse who will only pick up the right lead if you ask *just right*, or the ultra reliable skip-change king, they all will add to your toolkit that you can one day apply to the fancier model you get to take you to the next level after yout Riding Scool Journey.

Don’t forget about all the lessons you learn along the way and remember that without Riding School horses, you wouldn’t be riding at all!

Riding School owners are trying their best to provide the best services they can and keep the Riding School horses in the good condition. Horses are extremely expensive not just to buy but to keep aswell. Utilities, Mortgage/Rent, Vets bills, Feed, Haylage, Bedding, Vaccinations, Farrier, Wormers, Staff Wages, Physio, Saddler and so much more the list is endless no one sees how much it all costs to keep a yard running, no one sees full behind the scenes.

They are trying the best they can, it's not just a job to them it's their world their passion and the Riding School horses are their babies they are their family.

It’s that time of year….Bar 1 and Bar 2’s needed for Dublin qualifiers!
So I’ve a good few asking already. It’s nice to get them done and not last minute so if you want my help with either , just give us a shout on 0876216488.
I can sign off bar 1 and sign off and leave you ready for the bar 2 which is an exam💪
Working for them in groups will end up cheaper for you than doing them individually.
We can make a plan to suit everyone doing them day/time etc…
I certainly don’t mind doing them for you last minute, but they do take up time and as the year goes on I’ll be busier and I don’t want to let anyone down by not being free 😉

Horses available for lease from March 1st ❤️

1. Devine - An elderly lady who is enjoying the slower pace of life. Young at heart but ideal for someone who likes to do flatwork, hack and enjoy her company 🥰
2. Silverdale- lovely, sensible 6yo all-rounder. Would suit someone interested in competing . Is eligible for all racehorse classes.
3. Faraway Dreams - 6yo mare, retired racehorse and showing a great flair for dressage & jumping. A competent rider to continue her progress with a view to going to shows is ideal.
4. Pie - a 7yo fun 148cm coloured cob who would be great for a pony club kid who doesn’t have their own pony but likes to get out and about. Forward going but great fun 80/90cm jumping pony.

All horses/ponies to stay here with us. Tack provided.
Cost E300 per calendar month.
All can be ridden 3 or 4 times a week depending on the horse but you can visit everyday is you wish!
Please ring or what’s app me on 0876216488 for more info.

I love leasing them out as we only use the above in one or two lessons a week, maybe not even that and it’s lovely for them to be loved by their own person and get more attention…and give someone who possibly isn’t in a position to own a horse, chance to have one.
All are fully minded by us and there is never any obligation to come to the yard to mind or ride them,
No mucking them out etc…required 😉
The only extra requirement is treats for them….the more 🍎 and 🥕 , the happier they are 😉🤣!!
