FREE NEUTERING SCHEME FOR XL BULLIES FOR OWNERS IN RECEIPT OF SOCIAL WELFARE PAYMENTS - KILDARE & WEST WICKLOW AREA

February 1 is the deadline to apply for a Certificate of Exemption to own an XL bully from your local authority (Kildare or Wicklow County Council). There is no fee to apply for a Certificate of Exemption. After this date it will be illegal to own an unregistered XL bully and any unregistered XL bully may be seized by a Dog Warden or Garda and be euthanised. Before an XL bully can be given an exemption, it must be microchipped and neutered, so if you own one that is not microchipped or neutered, then you must get it done within the next two weeks.

The KWWSPCA has just been awarded some funds by the Department of Rural & Community Development, via the ISPCA, to help those on social welfare in County Kildare and West Wicklow who may be finding it difficult to cover the veterinary costs. If the dog is not already microchipped it must be and the owner will need to pay this cost as the scheme only covers neutering. The veterinary procedure would need to take place in one of the veterinary practices named by the KWWSPCA. If you are in need of help, please call the KWWSPCA Helpline as soon as possible on 087 6887136 to get more information.

According to KFM Radio this morning, Kildare has the highest number of XL bullies already registered, at 19. Before the Government initiative to provide funds, the KWWSPCA had been using its own funds to help a number of XL bully owners in Kildare get the necessary veterinary work carried out so that the dog could be registered.

Please see below government link with all details of the new legislation and the requirements to apply for a Certificate of Exemption.

We are running a Snip and Chip reduced price scheme for XL Bullies, to help them stay with their RESPONSIBLE owners. You pay €70 we pay the rest. Please contact Mairead Nolan only at 0404 46217. Dogs will be neutered in Avondale Vets in Rathdrum. Please note, we are unable to take your dog for rehoming, this is to help owners to comply with the law and keep their dogs.

❤️Chico has been adopted by Carlton & Dee ❤️

💔Chico is only 9 months old 💔 But his time on earth is now limited to just days….if he can’t find a forever home 💔😢😢 He will be euthanised 😢
💔 PLEASE PLEASE SHARE 💔

Chico is a very sweet natured Bully, he’s had a hard start to life, living outdoors in a dirty pen with little human attention, but he’s still a very good & kind boy who doesn’t deserve to die.

💔Chico’s time is running out, he’s currently in the pound and on the countdown to his euthanasia day. He needs a forever home before the awful ban comes into place regarding XL Bully’s as sadly he could be deemed TYPE & therefore will lose his life 😢

Chico has been around other dogs without any issues, he’s a sweet natured boy with a gentle soul who has never done anything wrong. Does he deserve to die?? We don’t think so 😢😢

If you could SHARE his post in the great hope that he finds someone willing to love & protect him always. His time is running out 💔

To adopt Chico please complete our application below. As he’s a breed that is now in danger he cannot be homed to Council owned properties as he could be seized. Thank you

This ban is already in place in Northern Ireland & the UK so sadly Chico can’t go to N.Ireland or the UK.

A face that would melt anyones heart 🥺
This boy is a 2/3 year old full male rotty, very food motivated and friendly. Can be a little standoffish with men he doesn’t know. Strong on lead but that could also be due to the build up of energy.
This lovely boy is in Kildare pound. He really needs a loving home of his own. If you are in a position to rehome him please call 059 8623388.
