About Ennisnag
Ennisnag Stud is nestled in the heartland of Ireland’s equine community in Co. Located in the south east of Ireland, just 1hr30mins from Dublin, the farm is run by the members of the extended Hughes family. With breeding lines established as early as 1930 by Thomas Hughes Snr of Cuffesgrange and Mary Hughes of Kilmanahan, today their legacy and foresight is there for all to see. The

ir passion for showjumping has been passed down throughout the Hughes and extended family and over the years. It has resulted in champions as Gowran Girl who won a Gold medal in the 1960 World Championships for Raimondo Dinzeo and Radar, Harley and Special Envoy who between them have won no fewer than 16 Grand Prixs for another family partnership of Nelson and Rodrigo Pessoa.Other champions to come from the Hughes stables were Vivaldi who won a Hickstead Derby, Royal Charmer who won as many as 38 International classes for Markus Fuchs and Diamond Exchange who was ridden by Jessica Kurten to win a World Cup qualifier in Millstreet in 1992 and two Grand Prix in Mechelen and Helsinki. All of the above mentioned horses were bred and ridden in their early years by the brothers Seamus and Andy Hughes respectively who have now passed on the mantel once more to the next generation. Ennisnag Stud is a family run stud offering world class bloodlines, quality progeny and a wealth of experience in the sport we love . We believe that world class showjumpers are bred by “breeding the best to the best”. By selecting mares descendant from proven lines which have demonstrated consistently high performance on the world stage we increase the chance of producing young horses with the physical and mental attributes to be elite showjumping prospects

LANGLEY WIN FOR ENNISNAG STUD-BRED ESI JET SET (ISH)

The 10-year-old gelding ESI Jet Set (ISH) bred in Kilkenny by Ennisnag Stud scored an impressive win on Friday at Thunderbird Show Park, Langley in British Colombia. Ridden by Canada's Carly Stevens, ESI Jet Set (ISH) was the only horse to jump clear in the MarBill Hill U25 1.40m.
ESI Jet Set (ISH) joined Stevens string in March 2023. They’ve been slowly building up to the 1.40m/1.45m height.
“This was actually our first win together! So things are starting to come together and he jumps his heart out for me. I can’t really ask for more,” she continued, noting that ESI Jet is “a total goofball” in barn.
“He is a barn favourite, I’d say for sure. He’s a bit weird, but once he wins your trust, he is a very loving horse.”

Congratulations to Louise Moore and her stunning Bravour foal.

Big congratulations to first-time breeder Louise Moore. Louise's smashing Irish Warmblood filly, Puglia Limoncello, had her first day out on 28 August at the Northern Ireland Horse Board's Mare and Foal Championship. She placed 3rd in the Showjumping Foal Section.

Puglia Limoncello is sired by the WSI Approved Stallion Bravour VDL (Brantzau x Cassini I x Lord) and is out of the sBs mare Free Dance d’Hyrencourt (Udancer Hero x Mr. Blue x Ogano Sitte).

Puglia Limoncello's direct damline has produced many 1.60 m, 1.55 m, and 1.50 m showjumpers.

What an amazing Dublin Horse Show we have had with Mendoza VDL and Shane Dalton. Mendoza VDL finished an incredible fifth in today’s final behind some legends of the sport.

Winning his class on Wednesday, finishing second on Friday and then topping off the week with a fifth place finish in the final.

Mendoza VDL was one of only two horses to jump clear all three days in the 7/8 year old International class.

ESI Crystal & Harry William Wood’s winning round from Thursday afternoon. The mare won the 5 year old class at the Dublin Horse Show. Congrats to Greg Broderick Ballypatrick Stables and eveveryone connected with this homebred.
