Meridith and her sister Ruby started physio with me 2 weeks ago after Ruby was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and Meridith with bilateral elbows pain. Their pawrent asked their vet to refer them for physio to ensure they maintain muscle strength and joint and soft tissue range of motion and remain pain free. Physio aims to address movement dysfunction and any associated pain.
On initial assessment, it became apparent that Meridith who has elbow pain and experiences stiffness in her elbows joints, cannot sit symmetrically. She also slides forward from sit into a lie rather than with control. So we are working on that also as part of her overall home exercise plan. Both Meridith and Ruby are on pain relief medication.
First pic is Meridith with her asymmetrical sit💖
Second is video of Meridith doing her stand to sit to lie to sit to stand exercises on a platform encouraging her to perform these exercises with improved alignment and posture. Which she performed much better 🙏🙏
3rd pic is of Ruby and Meridith 💕 their pawrent reported that they are both less stiff overall since she started home massage and range of motion and strengthening exercises and management. 👏👏
Keep up the great work girls 💕

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month
Recognising the subtle signs of pain is critical for our pets long term comfort and wellbeing 💕
Education of what these signs of pain can look like in our pet is important so we can act upon without delay
First step 📍 awareness- education, observation of behaviour and movement and recognition of signs of pain
Second step 📍action- monitor, record, and veterinary examination
Third step📍 intervention - diagnostics, medical management, exercise management, environment management, physiotherapy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy

Maggie and her human have been working hard at home 👏👏
Maggie is 17 yrs old and has osteoarthritis.
She is on medication to help target pain and follows a home exercise program to help combat issues associated with compensating , help improve and maintain joint range of motion and strength and balance and promote pain free movement and function.
She comes for regular physiotherapy, where I assess for any areas of tension or pain or dysfunction and initiate treatment that targets any ailments found.
She has arthritis in her spine, which is hypomobile and had mildly active trigger points either side of her chest , so today I worked on giving pain relief and mobilising the spine and soft tissue structures gently via pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, photobiomodulation therapy (class 3b LASER) , soft tissue mobilisations and massage and spinal mobilisations. All very gentle work, to help loosen tight tissue.
Maggie's human has worked hard on encouraging Maggie to transition from stand to sit and maintain a sit, and transition from sit to stand- encouraging her to squat and then power up evenly.
Sitting is an important functional movement which a dog needs to be able to do to maintain quality of life.
Maggie's sit and powering has improved hugely in the past few weeks.
Keep up the great work Maggie and Katie 👏👏👏
She is such a rockstar 😎

Happy new year to all my lovely clients and their pawrents.
It has been a funny year, with great highs and sad lows.
I miss my dog friends who have passed on, I think about them all a lot with fondness and feel their spirits tug at my heart often.
I miss my little man Drew, what a fab soul he was, an inspiration for living 💗 I feel his presence with me always keeping me company, and reminding me life is for living.
I am so very proud of the fab dogs I meet, some I meet on a weekly basis, some every 2 weeks, some once a month, and some as needed. They all lead great lives with their wonderful humans who advocate for their needs daily.
It is an absolute pleasure to do the work I do, it brings me pure joy, and I am so very grateful.
Welcome 2022.... Be gentle to us, bring some fun and excitement for crying out loud 🙏🙏🙏

Morgan comes for regular physio to address an old hock fracture, which has left her with reduced flexion and osteoarthritis and causes her to adopt compensatory movement patterns. A multi-disciplinary team approach to her care involving her vet, physio and owner allows her to be as comfortable as possible and keep her in tip top shape💙🤍.

Happy living up to his name, he is the best pupper 🐾🐾
Happy is having physiotherapy following decompression spinal surgery of his cervical spine (neck)- C5-C6 ventral slot
I am working closely with his vet Sinéad @cloynevetclinic to ensure we have the best outcome for this gorgeous boy who truly lives up to his name.
His amazing owner has gone to great lengths to ensure he makes the best recovery, and is following a home exercise program tailored to meet Happy's individual needs.
He comes for regular physio sessions to help with his rehabilitation. Thankfully this happy pupper is ambulating very well and is getting stronger and more energetic by the week.

Fifka receiving PEMF for back pain. Using licky mat keeps her calm and helps to relax this busy lady.
The beautiful Fifka, was referred to me by @thevetclinic.ie in Midleton for physiotherapy.
Her lovely owner was concerned that she was stiff in her hind limbs and was less inclined to exercise and reluctant to jump onto the couch. She was showing signs of pain on palpation over her back muscles and resisting extension of her bilateral hips in particular her right hip
CT revealed there was alot going on in her spine, where she has degenerative disease in her thoracic, lumbar and sacral spine and disc protrusions. Thankfully there were no degenerative changes in her hips.
Fifka, is a busy bee, finding what works for her is key to improving and maintaining her comfort. Introducing the licky mat, enriched her treatment session and allowed me to do more with her, it also assisted in relaxing her so she was calmer and more focused for the rest of her session.
Fifka also has a really sensitive stomach, and so has to be very careful what medication she can take. Her vet Lisa is doing acupuncture to help with pain relief, that combined with physiotherapy has helped in improving her comfort and mobility.
Physio aims to improve her comfort, reduce hypertonicity and trigger points along her thoracolumbar Epaxials, and hip flexor muscles, increase flexibility and reduce stiffness.
