⚠️Tips on keeping your pet safe and what to do if you think your dog has been stolen⚠️
✔️ Make sure your dog is microchipped.
-Keep your info up to date
-Your dog should be microchipped by law
-If your dog is stolen this deters thieves as this directly links you to your pet.
-This is one of the best ways to have your dogs identification displayed
✔️ A dog ID tag
-An engraved dog tag is another way for your pet to be identified, especially if lost or if your pet tends to wander.
-A collar displaying an identification tag is also required by Irish Law
-Having that your dog is microchipped engraved on your tag also deters thieves from stealing your dog
-Ideally your dog tag should have your telephone number and/or your eircode and that your dog is microchipped.
✔️Never leave your dog unattended, this means not to leave it out on its own to go to the toilet or not to leave your dog tied outside a shop alone
-This gives possible dog thieves more opportunity to steal your pet
✔️If your dog has been stolen, report to your local Garda Station
-This is reccomended as if a dog that resembles your dog/ the same breed as your dog is found the Gardaí will know to contact you.
✔️Contact local pounds, radio stations, pet shops, newspapers and make it known that your dog is missing/ stolen.
-This makes the public aware and has more people keeping an eye out for your pet
✔️Post on social media, Facebook is known for generating attention to missing and stolen pets.
-This again makes more people aware that your pet is missing
-Thieves will not be able to sell/move your dog if they know the public is looking for your pet.
✔️Make distinguishing features of your pet known.
-For example if your dog has two different coloured eyes or a distinguishing mark on its head, make that known on your social media.
✔️Post as many pictures of your pet as you can, people will remember what your pet looks like the more they see your dog the more they will remember your dog!
✔️Make sure to keep your social media presence constant, keep your dog in the public eye. This is the best chance you have to get your dog back. And always remember that there is strength in numbers!🐶
