We are delighted to present a comprehensive, detailed report on the state of pet rescue and adoption in Ireland for 2024. This survey was carried out in June 2024 and we are excited to finally share the results of this survey with our followers.

This report is based on two extensive surveys: one with 943 pet owners and the other with 38 rescue centres across the country.

Key findings:
62% of pet owners in Ireland have chosen to rescue their pets.

Rehoming pets from rescue centres involves navigating various barriers, primarily related to health issues and age, which affect 75% and 69.44% of rescue pets, respectively.

Most centres (58.33%) currently manage between 20 and 50 pets needing rehoming at any given time.

88.79% of respondents have donated to an animal rescue center at some point

78.12% of the animals currently in the care of these facilities are residing in foster homes.

During the Christmas period, approx 40% of centres report a spike in pet abandonment.
